Chapter 255 Insistence (1)
Jake blocked the thrusts of the enemy, but despite that, he still suffered some damage since the attacks made the air vibrate and increased the temperature around tremendously and because the impacts were just that strong.
"At least this guy can't use that so often since I am pushed back every single time…" Jake thought.
The next time the monster dashed, it came while zigzagging in order to get Jake by surprise. While furrowing his eyebrows, Jake used Thunder Slash, but the snake moved faster in a single instant and then dodged the attack. The beast used that chance to charge even faster and then attacked while aiming at Jake's head. He had predicted such an attack, so he swung down his sword with all his might, and the explosion made both of them be pushed backward.
Jake didn't recover faster, but he still was the first to attack after the impact. This boss only used its thrust attacks to keep him at bay, but Jake dodged the first, and he fooled the creature by moving like he was going to dodge again, but he used Flash. At the last moment, the monster felt a sharp pain on its left side, and when the monster checked the wound, there was no blood. Jake was planning to use his previous strategy again and slowly seal away the health of the beast. That small strike alone made the monster lose one hundred points of health, so… he just had to do the same thing 470 times more.
"No problem… it will be a piece of cake," Jake thought while furrowing his eyebrows.
Unfortunately, things wouldn't be easy because if it were easy, it wouldn't have been Jake's life. The monster summoned several Fire Arrows around him. He already had seen that trick, but his previous method wouldn't work. The fireballs wouldn't explode once they hit each other, and he would be pretty close to the center. Without any other choice, Jake charged forward and then used Flash. He forced himself to hit some fireballs and make them explode before he could get surrounded.
The enemy raised its spear to block his attack. In the end, the body of the spear easily stops the tip of Jake's sword. However, the monster felt its hands getting colder since Jake was still trying to push forward while using Frozen Touch. The monster took a step backward to escape the cold effect, and then Jake used that chance to bombard the boss with Dark Blades. Thunder Slash wouldn't cause much damage, so the paralysis effect wouldn't activate. With that in mind, Jake used something that would be more beneficial.
The beast hissed in annoyance since it could feel its status decreasing. At that distance, it could block two out of the five attacks, but the others still were decreasing its status, and no one likes to get suddenly weaker. Without any other option, the monster made several poisonous arrows appear around Jake, and this time, it was his turn to clench his teeth in annoyance.
Jake charged to the side, but even after using his sword, he still was hit by some poisonous arrows. As one would expect, his health began to decrease… after getting hit by five of those, he lost forty percent of his health in just five seconds. Half of that barrage would be enough to kill him in a matter of seconds.
"I have to keep moving in order not to give him the chance to attack like that…" Jake thought.
Jake prepared to move his sword, but then all of a sudden, the monster equipped its crossbow and then began to fire like a machine gun. Jake blocked most with his sword and used Flash to dodge those that wouldn't be possible to dodge. While he didn't suffer direct damage, the smell alone of the poison made him lose his health.
"What a stupidly potent poison…" Jake thought while he furrowed his eyebrows.
Blocking wasn't a good idea. Letting the surrounded be hit by that wasn't a good idea either, so Jake used Flash toward the monster while looking at its head. The beast noticed his intentions and grabbed his spear, but in the end, Jake passed by the monster's side and attacked the monster's wrist and right side at the same time.
The boss confirmed that the wounds weren't bleeding, so he could tell that Jake was using something out of the norm to cause damage, but that didn't change things a lot. While Jake was turning around, the monster used its crossbow again.
"At this rate…" Jake thought.
Saving the dark flames to use only when he was planning to cut the limbs of the monster was too risky… Jake's best option would be to get close and try to finish the enemy off as soon as possible, but he would risk breaking the spear… While he wasn't much of a fan of spears, that one certainly was valuable, and its effects were powerful, it would be a waste to give up on them. With that in mind, Jake changed his approach.
Jake used Flash, and then the enemy swung its spear toward his head. Jake used his sword to block the attack, but then he won the exchange for the first time since the boss tried to hit its own face… Jake used his dark flames on the eye of the monster, but with its lightning reflexes, the monster moved its head, and only its cheek began to burn.
While the enemy was busy with that, Jake fixed his stance and then aimed at the head of the monster. His horizontal swing was stopped by the enemy's spears, but since the beast used only one hand, Jake pushed the monster and its massive body to the side.
The monster managed to extinguish the dark flames from its face somehow… Jake hadn't focused too much on size, so it couldn't be helped that the flames disappeared after causing that much damage.
