Chapter 173
173 Chapter 172: Going Hunting
“Why do you think he let us go?” Cyrus was a bit skeptical about Gerald.
He felt threatened by the existence of the young successor of the son of heaven. Even without saying it out loud, he low-key admitted to being scared of the young man and felt there is always an unholy reason behind his actions.
He wouldn’t just let them leave like that without any reason. But his words seemed to be ignored as everyone was focused on Damon who laid off the bed over roses created by Elsa. He looked deadly pale and exhausted.
If Damon didn’t attempt the sacrificial magic where he kept absorbing the power of the enemy constantly to repair the damages his body sustained by using this power then things would have gotten worse.
“Whatever his intentions are, we don’t need to worry much. I will have to recover first before we can do anything!” Damon said as his eyes slowly opened.
His voice seemed lost as if he was thinking deeply and forgotten about their presence.
Gin just kept looking at Damon with a frown. His crystal blue eyes were wide open and pinned on Damon with a very sad expression on his face.
“I know... I now suffer the same cultivation as you all... my body was too weak to handle such powers and I paid the price. A price even my immortal body cannot heal... since you won’t say it out, I will do it for you” Damon said calmly with a detached voice.
The cultivation defect has always been there to remind people of their limits and warn them not to overload themselves with power far beyond their level.
.....
Cryus frowned at this as he watched the black cracks on Damon’s body refusing to heal.
“I guess I and my student will be depending on you when we acquire our inheritance” Damon said as he shot Cyrus a cold glance before slowly rising to his feet.
It felt like his body was pulled up by an unknown force, meanwhile, the roses on which he laid on slowly rotted away as Damon stood to his feet.
“The three of you will have to continue this journey without me,” Damon said as he jumped off the floating bed of roses, and down to the sandy ground. His eyes were looking past his team and directed towards a direction as if he could see something.
“Why? What do you plan to do?” Elsa felt disturbed by this.
She wasn’t feeling worried by Damon’s absence. With the sealed artifact acquired, she has no reason to be scared of anyone below the demigod realm. Acquiring the last three sealed artifacts shouldn’t be too difficult for her alone. She was more worried about Damon’s safety.
With this injury, Damon was far weaker than he used to be, especially since he can’t gather enough power to cast the major spells he needed to fight.
“I am still the death mage no matter my condition. I plan to go hunting. That will make sure the sealed artifacts go to you guys without any issues. When I’m done hunting I will be leaving for the realm of life and death, owned by the last ancestral dragon. I will claim the sealed artifact there. Then we meet up at the entrance of the inheritance. We have one month to cover all of this and meet up at the entrance of the inheritance location. Don’t forget that” Damon said dryly as he quickly cupped his fists and walked away, allowing his robes to flutter wildly while he walked away.
Elsa wanted to stop him but Gin held her by the shoulder and stopped her.
“If he moves around with us, it will only slow us down and slow him down too. No matter how good we are as a team, Damon has always been a loner and works better alone. If this is his decision, it’s best we respect it” Gin said calmly.
“By the way, he wasn’t the only one badly hurt. Damon is most likely planning to finish the Job. If he will ever have the chance to kill the fire dragon now is the time” Cyrus speculated as they watched Damon’s fading figure.
...........
A few days passed and Damon finally exited the endless desert. He followed the stench of death looming over the red dragon whom he had injured badly and surprisingly he found himself in a small village.
From a hill, Damon watched the village below with a frown. He never thought he would come to a place willing to house the destructive dragon duo.
If it were before Damon would boldly walk over and reduced the entire village to dust if possible but right now he lacked such strength. Neither was his condition good enough for him to do something so bold.
“Hmph!” Damon leaned back and watched the village below. Many villages and towns existed outside the four great kingdoms but none was able to mix all races together.
Yet he could see it clearly here. Whatever village this is, it was completely hidden from the rest of the world.
“Interesting” Damon muttered before turning his back on the town and walking away.
..........
It was late that night and surprisingly the moon was blood red. There were well-organized guards placed at the gates and the wall of this small village.
No! This settlement was far too big and advanced to be called a village. It was more like a city than a village.
Anyway, none of that mattered anymore especially since the duo Damon was searching for were hidden there. He failed to understand how a country this advanced existed just outside the endless desert, in a location that has never been explored before.
If he didn’t have a seal on Fei, he probably wouldn’t have found them.
Near the entrance of the city was a small campfire with a standard team of six camping and talking merrily while they ate roasted pork.
“I heard the arrival of the two Draconians of Destiny will signal the beginning of a new era. An era where we will stand above the four great kingdoms and be opportune to serve the ancestral Dragons properly. With the backing of the deities and the dragons, not even the gyro Kingdom can resist!” A human guard laughed. Beside him was a massive broadsword
Beside him was a beautiful elf lady who held his hand tightly as if she was holding on to her lover.
“The two Draconians of Destiny returned with one hurt badly. It was said that they fought against the cruel death mage and got hurt badly but according to them, the death mage is almost half dead. Even we can beat him now if we get the chance” the lady laughed and the rest laughed.
While they were laughing the orc amongst them stopped and frowned, his large nostrils sniffed around for a while, causing him to look in a certain direction.
Everyone noticed his strange movements and looked in that direction.
They saw a young man in a black jacket, black trousers, and boots. The black jacket was left unbuttoned, showcasing his firm and ripped chest. At the center of his chest was a bloody hole and from that hole more black cracks spread across his body.
While he moved a darkish green fog followed him tightly from behind.
“Hehehe! I wish you all no harm but I would like to ask. Where can I find these two Draconians of Destiny? I have business with them” The young man with blazing blood red eyes said in a cruel tone that sent shivers down their spines.
“Who... who are you?” The orc asked with a cruel frown. Amongst the team, he was the only one who wasn’t afraid.
The orcs do not know fear.
“HAHAHAHAHAHA! You wish to know who I am? Hmph! The orcs are always so daring. That’s probably why they are the strongest race on the continent. Unfortunately, when standing against death, race, and background doesn’t matter. It is inevitable” Damon said as he stepped into the light, revealing his true figure.
“I am inevitable!” Damon said in a cold tone.
Buzzz!
The death mage!
Fear gripped everyone, casting them to react slowly but the orc moved first!
Boom!
Without hesitation, his eyes flared with green mana as a green fog diffused from his body while he unsheathed his dual bone daggers. His body shot forward, pouncing on Damon recklessly!
Hmph!
Impudent!
Damon sneered as his aura spread from his body taking the shape of two energy wolves.
Bang!
The two wolves dove forward sinking their fangs into the orc before he could reach Damon dragging him to the ground. Before the orc could react, the energy wolves exploded leaving behind a ruined corpse.
Damon ignored the small struggle as if he wasn’t involved in the matter. His indifferent eyes were pinned on the five remaining members of the team while he approached with his hands placed behind him gently.
“Where are the dragons of Destiny? I won’t ask again” Damon declared coldly.
