Chapter 167 - City S - Part 7
Chapter 167 - City S - Part 7
Xiu Mei didn’t know when she suddenly lost consciousness but the next moment she opened her eyes, she was welcomed by the view of the white ceiling along with the familiar smell of disinfectant in the air. She quickly realized that she was in the hospital.
She closed her eyes for a bit, trying to remember what had happened before she fainted. She recalled that she was almost caught in a car accident. Then she was transferred into a different car. Then while waiting, she...
Her eyes shot open. Her breathing turned heavy as she remembered whom she saw before she lost consciousness.
Xiu Su Yi.
Even though her consciousness was already barely hanging by a thread back then, she was sure that she wasn’t hallucinating at that time.
It was really Xiu Su Yi. He showed up in front of her. And somewhere at the back of her mind, she thought that he must have been the one behind the car accident.
The door of her room suddenly slid open startling her. She craned her neck towards the door and saw someone’s figure that wasn’t supposed to be in City S in the first place.
"Chen, what are you doing here?" She asked foolishly. It was only after she finished her sentence did she realize how stupid she sounded.
Of course, why would he be here? He came to see his wife that was apparently prone to getting herself caught in accidents. Xiu Mei lamented at the fact that she already got hospitalized twice in the span of less than six months.
Seeing his wife awake, Lu Chen rushed towards her side and clicked the button to call for her doctor. Then his attention returned to her figure.
"Do you feel pain anywhere?" He asked, his tone full of worry and concern.
She shook her head lightly as she propped her body up with her arm that wasn’t too painful anymore.
"Just a bit of body pain here and there but it’s not that bad. My right shoulder should be pretty bad though. Did the seatbelt leave a mark? She answered her question without hesitation.
After resting for quite a bit, the pain in her body already subsided but she wasn’t sure about the burning pain on her shoulder hours ago. She couldn’t feel any pain as of the moment most probably because she was given anesthetics.
Lu Chen placed his hand on her shoulder, stopping her movements.
"Lie down first. I’ll help you up once the doctor arrives, okay?"
She was very obedient this time and listened to him.
"Is my wound that bad?"
Lu Chen shook his head. "Don’t worry, it’s going to be fine. The doctor said that it won’t scar since it wasn’t that deep."
"Thank God."
A minute later, a doctor and two nurses streamed inside the room. The usual check-up was done including the dreadful injection that she terribly hated. Seeing her stiff expression, Lu Chen held her other hand trying to distract her from the stinging pain.
Since her wounds were only superficial and most of it was just simple body aches, if her test results turn out normal, the doctor said she would be fine for discharge tomorrow. They didn’t stay long in her room and immediately left.
Lu Chen adjusted her bed just like what she wanted. Then taking out the packed food he ordered at the restaurant next door, he dutifully fed her the soup spoonful by spoonful. Xiu Mei enjoyed the treatment and after finishing the food that she asked him who was taking care of his work in the company and what about Lu Qiang.
"Lu Shao is temporarily taking care of the things back there. Lu Qiang wanted to come but I assured him that you will be flying back soon so he didn’t press on following you here anymore." Lu Chen replied as he cleaned up the empty bowls and threw on the trash bin.
"Will Lu Qiang be really fine? You know, because the other day..." She didn’t finish her sentence but Lu Chen understood what she was trying to say.
He lightly stroked her hair and tenderly smiled at her. "No need to rush about that. Right now, you have to focus on recovering. I didn’t tell Lu Qiang that you got caught in an accident so he didn’t insist on coming with me but if he realizes that you got injured while you are away, that little kid would surely get apprehensive the next time you leave for business trips again."
"..." He was right. How could she forget about that?
If she returns with serious injuries... then wouldn’t she traumatize the kid any further?
He lost his parents when they were both away and looking at her situation right now, won’t it trigger his fear further?
Xiu Mei swore to obediently listen to Lu Chen this time around so she could appear well in front of Lu Qiang once she returns.
"Sorry for making you worry everytime."
Ever since she married Lu Chen, it was like she only brought him more headaches and worry than when she was just simply his secretary. She didn’t even realize that she was such a handful when she was still living alone ah.
"I’m always worried about you so it doesn’t make much of a difference. As long as you’re fine, then that’s the greatest relief for me." He dropped a kiss on her hair as he continued stroking her hair.
"Aren’t I such a handful?"
"No way. My wife would never be a handful for me. I’ll never get tired pampering and spoiling you forever."
Xiu Mei giggled. "Where did you learn such a cheesy line?"
"I had to learn it to woo my wife, of course."
"Liar."
"It’s true. The path of chasing the wife is very difficult you know."
Her eyes narrowed as she stared at him. "Are you saying that I made it difficult for you?"
Lu Chen immediately changed his stance and coaxed her.
"Of course not. It’s just that this husband has a very low EQ so he doesn’t know how to chase his wife."
She blinked in surprise. Does he really?
"But wife, I don’t think I’ll allow you to go alone in the next business trips again."
"What? Why not?"
It’s not like she can stay cooped up in the company while working right? And there is a lot of stuff that she needed to personally visit for work.
Lu Chen pinched her cheeks in frustration. "Because this adorable wife of mine always gets caught in accidents. How can this husband sleep peacefully at night without her by my side next time?"
She puckered her lips as she tugged at his clothes. "It’s not like it always happens..."
"I’ll be happier if it doesn’t happen at all."
Thinking about the amount of danger she was surrounded with, she pouted.
"Wouldn’t that be pretty impossible? You know how much enemies we have."
Lu Chen sighed in defeat. "Won’t it be better if you don’t play outside in the future?"
"Are you telling me to stop working?"
"No, I’m just saying that you should avoid going to business trips like this where I can’t go with you."
"But you know that’s not possible. It’s either you go or I go."
"Then I’ll go next time."
Her mouth fell open. She couldn’t stop herself from hitting his arm after hearing his ridiculous statement. "Are you crazy?"
"Wife, if I was crazy, then I’d immediately ground you at home first thing when we get home."
Xiu Mei:...fudge.
Before things take turn for a worse and before Lu Chen really decides to stop her from going on business trips, she immediately shifted to a different topic.
She lightly coughed, clearing her throat. "Can you get me my phone? I’ll contact the Marketing team 3 for a bit for news and give them some final instructions before we leave here."
Lu Chen realized her intention but he still went along with it. He originally wanted her to focus on resting first but Xiu Mei was very much like him when it comes to work. So he didn’t argue with her and gave her the phone.
The early she wraps up her work here, the earlier they could fly back home.
He left her side for a moment while she was talking with someone the phone when his ears perked up after hearing her speak Albert’s name. He frowned after hearing that name, remembering that he was included in the list of people being monitored by the Investigation Team that was submitted to him. Now he couldn’t help but wonder if that guy has something to do with the accident...
And then there’s Lee In’s report about Xiu Mei’s order to investigate Ying Wan Wan.
And the appearance of Xiu Su Yi with the intent of sending a message.
Lu Chen’s frowned deepened. He wondered whether it was just a pure coincidence or if it was everything done on purpose.
