Chapter 166 - City S - Part 6
Chapter 166 - City S - Part 6
The loud sound of continuous honking of a large truck resounded throughout the intersection. Almost everyone in the vicinity immediately turned to look towards the highway to find where the sound was coming from. Aside from that, the screeching sound of the tires braking noise
The screeching sound temporarily deafened Xiu Mei’s ears causing her to raise her head from the doc.u.ment she was reading to turn towards her left.
For others, everything happened so fast before they could even let out a shriek. Strangely for Xiu Mei, it almost felt like everything was slowed down.
The fear that appeared across the truck driver’s face.
How the mother pulled her kid into her arms and ran to the inner side most of the sidewalk.
The pedestrians who had barely crossed the street immediately ran for their lives towards the opposite side of the street.
And how her taxi driver sped up in an attempt to outrun the truck that was threatening to crash into their vehicle.
BANG! CRASH! CRASH!
The sound of the cars colliding with each other and glasses shattering echoed across the intersection. Along with it are the sounds of other cars pulling their brakes and car alarm noises that reached even until to the next street.
"Oh my god!! Somebody call the ambulance!!" She heard a faint voice scream in the background.
Rattled by the sudden halt of the vehicle she was riding on, she couldn’t stop the inertia of motion coming into play. Her body was forced to lean forward almost slamming her head into the headrest of the car seat in front of her if it weren’t for the seatbelt she was wearing.
It was then that Xiu Mei realized that the taxi had been a few centimeters away from getting caught by the truck before it completely collided with other cars.
The moment the taxi came into a full stop, Xiu Mei was hit by a pang of pain in various parts of her body. Before she could even scream out from the pain, the door beside her suddenly opened. She turned her head to her left with great difficulty and saw her second brother’s bodyguards. Knowing the current state she was in, they immediately moved her out of the car carefully including the driver at the front that fainted out of shock.
Her breathing grew ragged as seconds passed. Her vision was getting hazy by the second with the intense pain attacking her entire body.
"Ms.Xiu, please wait a bit. We’ll immediately bring you to the nearest hospital." The bodyguard that was carrying her exclaimed as he carefully made his way out of the chaotic wreck of multiple cars.
Even though she was immersed in so much pain, Xiu Mei did not forget that there were people who are in more grave danger than her. She tugged the person who was carrying her.
"No, I’ll be fine so put me down. I want you to focus on rescuing the injured people." She knew she wasn’t in good condition either but she knew if the others weren’t rescued on time, they’ll be in more danger.
At first, her bodyguards immediately disagreed at what she said so instead, she had to use her authority as the daughter of the Xiu family and ordered them to rescue others. With this, even though they’re under the orders of her second brother, they still have duties to follow her orders as well.
They hesitantly put her down inside the car they were using before rushing to the scene to start their rescue. Since the bodyguards are well trained for first aid, they’ll be very helpful in earning more time for the injured people.
Xiu Mei shifted uncomfortably in her seat as she clutched her chest and shoulder in pain. The force of the seatbelt that prevented her from being seriously injured resulted in a burning pain in her shoulders. She evensubconsciously used her hand to push herself back when the car halted so her wrists are probably injured as well.
Even if she was straining, she turned her head towards the direction of the accident. She could already hear the sound of ambulance and police cars approaching. Some people are crowding around the area either filming it or calling for more help. Some children who were scared cried very hard at the side.
Amongst the chaotic crowd, the person in black calmly standing at the back stood out. He was looking at the scene very calmly as if he wasn’t feeling anything at all after witnessing such a scary scene.
Then that person suddenly turned to her direction. She didn’t know why but Xiu Mei suddenly shivered, a chill crawled down her spine. Even though that person was quite far from where she was and the car that she was was tinted, she almost thought that the person in black could see her even through that.
And the next thing that he did startled her even more.
That person started walking forward, approaching her direction. His face that she couldn’t make out was getting clearer and clearer as their distance lessened.
A second later, her eyes widened.
"Y-You!" She exclaimed in shock as she finally realized who that person was. Her body unconsciously moved upright, but because of this movement, a shooting pain ran through her body once more.
She groaned in pain, clutching her chest. She raised her eyes again to look at the person but a body suddenly came in between the two of them. It was a familiar petite woman that she met a few weeks back.
It was Lee In.
Her back was obstructing her view of that man in black so Xiu Mei didn’t know what she was doing.
On the other hand, Lee In who was devoid of emotions pointed a gun at the man in front her without hesitation. She sharply glared at that person as she threatened him.
"If you take another step, I assure you that this bullet will be inside your brain in the next millisecond."
That man stopped on his tracks. He proudly raised his head, as if he wasn’t scared by Lee In’s threat. Instead, he smiled smugly with a mix of triumph and evil on his face. The scar on his face made his expression even more terrifying.
He suddenly slipped his hand inside his windbreaker causing Lee In to flinch and pull the trigger. She purposefully missed the man to give him a warning. Lee In was using a silencer hence, the others didn’t hear the gunshot.
"Move a muscle and the next shot won’t miss anymore." Lee In narrowed her eyes towards the man. But the man seemed like he doesn’t fear her at all. In a split second, a piece of paper appeared in his hand.
"You may think I’m the person behind all of this but unfortunately for you, I’m just a piece of pawn for that person. Today’s accident is just an excuse for him to let me deliver his message to that person." After declaring that, he dropped the paper and let it fall to the ground.
Fearlessly, he turned his back from Lee In and started walking away nonchalantly as if a gun wasn’t being pointed to his head. Lee In’s grip on her gun tightened as she cursed inside her mind.
If her objective to this trip wasn’t to assure the safety of the Chief’s wife, then she would have surely gone after that person and stabbed a piece of knife on his head heartlessly. But even if she wanted to do that, she couldn’t forget her objective. She could only give up and watch that man walk away unscathed.
She raised her hand and tapped the communicator in her ear five times.
Lee In’s expression hardened as she watched that person disappear in front of her eyes. Today, she could only leave it to her colleagues to follow that man, and hopefully, they’ll be able to catch him. Then maybe she could have her fun in torturing him during the interrogation.
She scanned the surroundings for the last time before placing her gun back to her gunholster. She bent down to pick up the paper on the ground and stuffed it inside her coat without looking at the content.
She pulled out a different communicator and uttered a few words in it. After hearing the affirmation of the bodyguards on the other side, she turned towards the car that Xiu Mei was in. She seemed to be in a lot of pain so Lee In quickly hopped inside the car and started driving towards the nearest hospital.
As soon as they arrived, Xiu Mei was immediately pushed inside the emergency room for treatment while Lee In waited at the receiving area.
She stared at the television showing the live video of the accident at the intersection. Then she pulled out her phone and dialed Lu Chen’s number.
As soon as the call connected, Lee In didn’t wait for Lu Chen to speak and directly reported what she witnessed a while ago.
"Boss, Xiu Su Yi appeared on the accident site."
