Chapter 170: Leo's Might, A Difference In Power

Chapter 170: Leo's Might, A Difference In Power

A terrifying power swept out across the roof of the ancient building made of odd black stone, Leo who was facing this aura had a stern look in his eyes as his body couldn't help but tremble slightly. He stared at its source with an expression of madness as he thought, 'I must have been crazy to challenge this kind of monster, what was I thinking?'

While Leo seemed a bit confused, Evan, who glowed in bright crimson energy, gazed at Leo as he spoke, "What's wrong? I'm giving you an opportunity; I'll attack only one time while you'll be given three chances. Now come, show me your strength!"'

When Leo heard those words, his gaze hardened as did his determination when he gritted his teeth and spoke, "Fine! Don't regret it!"

Following Leo's words, the temperature around his body began to rise by many degrees, almost as if he were a boiling kettle. Soon, heat vapor began to rise around him, after which a startling amount of flames erupted from his body, creating a blazing field on the entire rooftop.

Evan's eyes flashed when he saw this and waved his hand, manipulating the void around him to form a barrier that warded off the flames. As his arm stretched to the side, he called out his Havengaurd sword and held it firmly as he looked at Leo awaiting his attack.

'Flame Manipulation... truly a fascinating thing, these Evolvers are quite peculiar I wonder how powerful those ancestors of their kind had been?' Evan thought to himself, but after a while, he didn't bother to focus on it, as he knew Leo was about ready to attack.

Leo lowered his stance by crouching and leaning forwards, looking like a runner in the Olympics. He lifted his head and faced Evan with blazing eyes, causing the flames to swirl around his body as it burnt most areas of the roof.

"Let's see you face this technique! Blazing Charge!" Leo shouted, invoking a custom skill, his body pushed off the ground like a ray of blazing flames as he blurred when dashing towards Evan.

Swoosh! In moments, he had arrived before Evan's body, noticing that he had remained calm and in the same position with his sword held at the side.

Leo's eyes shone as he raised his right fist and struck it towards Evan's face during his high-speed movement.

Evan looked at this with a smile as he casually turned his body, avoiding the attack at a hair length's distance. He even used the sword to gently guide Leo's palm towards the ground, where it smashed into the rooftop destroying the entire upper quarters of the building.

Bang! A loud explosive sound resounded as a cluster of flame rose into the air when the upper storey of the building shattered into bits of rocks.

Both Evan and Leo then began to fall downwards to the second floor, but as if Leo didn't bother to think why his opponent could have such skill, he promptly followed up with a second attack.

"Take my Fire Palm!" Leo shouted with an oddly excited look on his face, his entire body blazing with flames that now swirled around his palm as he fell towards Evan's direction.

Evan grinned as he saw this, he thought, "He's good, very experienced in battle, not even wasting time to launch a follow up against a superior foe."

As Evan thought, he raised the Havengaurd before him, prepared to receive this incoming attack. By now, Leo who had veered towards Evan's position had already arrived before him with his palm stretched outwards.

It glowed in red lights with clumps of flames scattering from it as it fell from the air. Eventually, it had crashed into Evan's sword, before pushing Evan down onto the stone-paved ground of the second floor with a loud explosive sound.

Boom! Another explosion rang out, and the entire second floor trembled by this attack. If one looked closely, they would see a scene where Evan held his sword upwards as it resisted against Leo's palm attack, clusters of flames were scattering from his palm along with bits of Evan's crimson energy.

As these powers scattered, they scarred the floor and walls, burning and leaving gashes everywhere, while the ground below Evan's feet left a deep spiderweb of cracks that had spread out for more than eighty percent of the second floor.

Leo, who saw how leisurely Evan blocked his attack was a bit stumped, but he didn't dare to hesitate, he knew he still had one more chance.

'I will win no matter the cost! Since I can't beat him in this style, I'll have to use it...' Leo said with flashing eyes as if he decided on something.

Evan noticed his expression and couldn't help but grow curious. He contemplated, 'Oh... looks like he's about to unleash a secret method. It should be interesting...'

As if his thoughts came through, Leo used the force of his palm attack to push him away from Evan as he flipped backward and landed a few meters away.

Evan took this chance to change his sword stance, he placed the Havengaurd before his chest and held it in an upright manner; both of his arms were now holding its handle.

"Last chance..." Evan said with a sharp look in his eyes, his crimson energies also rose by a tiny section causing Leo only to grew sterner.

"Try blocking this one!" Leo shouted as his hand moved when he pressed a point on his chest, close to his heart.

Following this, a startling change occurred as Leo's combat suit began to glow in amber lights. Soon, the flames around Leo's body had intensified by double as the temperature rose by a significant degree, melting even the floor below his feet.

Evan narrowed his eyes at this change; he grew slightly serious while he spoke, "Doubling the intensity of your flames, that must be quite the skill, but with an equal cost. Come... let me see your final struggle."

Leo didn't waste time; his eyes flickered as he once more dashed toward Evan with his blazing red palm held outward.

"Let's see you block it again! Fire Palm!" Leo roared as he struck his palm towards Evan from a distance, causing a massive blazing palm to bolt across the room towards Evan's direction.

Evan looked at the incoming palm that was roughly one meter in size, he was a bit surprised that it would take such an appearance, but he still smiled and received it.

"An excellent attack, but sadly, it wasn't enough, now as promised I shall use only one move..." As Evan said this, his crimson energy gathered around his sword which he held before his chest; he then took on an attack posture leaning his body to the side before he chopped the sword downwards.

This chop made a loud cry as a crimson sword ray swept towards the palm, cutting it into two sections without a strand of resistance like cutting through tofu.

Leo looked at this in shock; he didn't even have time to react as the last thing he saw was the bright ray sweeping across the distance before enveloping his vision and consciousness.

"Ah!" With a loud shout, Leo awoke to the scene within the Training Quarters. He looked around in confusion for only a moment, as sweat ran down his entire body due to his fear of the previous attack.

By this time, he had only now realized that he died in the Magma Fortress Training Zone, he shook his head and removed the wristlet as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

'Such a monstrous guy, to think he only needed one swing to finish me. Sigh... I really have no idea where he got that kind of power from...' Leo thought while recalling the scene and shaking his head.

Soon though, he showed a grin on his face, as when he gripped his arms, he felt a tinge stronger than before as if the next level wasn't far off. He spoke in joy, "Haha! I wasn't sure at first, but it looks like I was right, these guys were indeed capable of stimulating our genetic potential. If we were to fight them, then evolving to the next level will only become quicker."

As someone heard Leo's words, a voice sounded nearby, "Huhu, you're right; they are quite the overwhelming targets. But at the same time, a good source of training."

"Hmm? You Razel, why are you out here?" Leo asked in shock as he only now noticed Razel, who was humbly seated in the corner.

Razel smirked as he replied with a helpless look on his face, "Why? Well, it was because unlike your opponent, who must have taken his time, my opponent was much fiercer. Thus, I was the first to go..."

Leo made an awkward look, he shook his head before speaking, "Well, it's not like the others will..."

He was about to say something, but soon, his face turned dark when he saw three bright lights lit up simultaneously. Both he and Razel looked at each other and shook their heads as they spoke at the same time, "Such monsters..."
