Chapter 169: A Battle Between Women, Peculiar Abilities

Chapter 169: A Battle Between Women, Peculiar Abilities

As the shockwaves from Joe's and Rick's battles spread out across the fortress, a good distance away from them within a region of structures, both Irene and Julie were carefully making their way through the streets.

Julie had a frown on her face as Irene showed anger when she spoke, "Where did they go? I could've sworn that they were noticed here from the scouting monitor."

Julie spoke to ease her concern as her eyes flashed with caution, "There's no doubt that they are here if we can't find them it would only mean that they've anticipated our movements. It's also likely that they were able to sense our arrival and have mastered this location enough to hide away from us properly."

Irene sighed at those words as she replied with a helpless look, "Sister Julie, doesn't this mean that at this time were sitting ducks..."

Julie smiled and replied, "Maybe, maybe not, hehe, we are still more verse than them in combat. Let see what they'll do to us even if they are stuck in hiding."

Irene hearing this soon recovered as she too made a cheeky smile while looking around, the two even stopped moving and only began to take in their environment.

Right at this time, on the summits of the ancient stone building to the right of both females, Emilia sat with her golden bow knocked in full, her eyes swept from Julie to Irene before a sharp look showed within them as she thought, "Let's see you fare against a simple arrow..."

Following this, Emilia released the string causing a golden arrow to manifest before bolting towards Irene like a ray of light. In merely a flash, it had arrived within her vicinity filling not only her but Julie with a hint of fear as they looked at it.

"Not good, Counter Force!" Julie shouted as she stretched her palm forward, causing her hair to rise above when a blue aura shrouded her body.

In this instance, a semi-transparent wall had appeared before Irene, smashing into the ray of light at incredible speeds.

Bang! Following a loud explosion, the arrow had dispersed after a bright golden light formed around them for a few seconds, leaving behind a crater that filled both Irene and Julie with dread.

Julie's mouth corners leaked a bit of blood, as she wiped her lips and spoke with a slightly pale look, "That arrow was far too powerful, how can there be am arrow that is far superior to Razel's explosive rounds?"

Irene also thought to the same, but she couldn't even get the chance to express her shock as she noticed another change in the nearby street.

There, she saw the gorgeous purple-haired Layla that stood boldly with her scepter held in her palms; she currently had it raised above her head as dazzling purplish auras had begun to condensed around its embedded core.

"We can't take that head out, Irene, use it now!" Julie said in a hurry.

Irene having recovered her state of mine promptly acted by placing her palms onto the ground, by this time, Layla had already finished channeling her attack she pointed the scepter towards them and invoked, "Lightwave!"

A bright ray of purple light blasted towards both Irene and Julie, looking no different from a raging current that could swallow all things. However, at the moment they were about to be consumed, a strange scene occurred.

"Superior Cancel!" Irene said as diagram formed around her vicinity for a few meters, once this happened, Layla looked in shock as she saw her beam attack quickly ground away until it faded into nothingness.

'This... what kind of ability is this? So strange, to think it could even forcibly cancel my Lightwave...' Layla thought with a surprised look in her eyes.

Emilia, who still sat on the building, eyes this in silence as her eyes flashed when she sent a message to Layla, "Sister Layla, it looks like we'll need to take them a bit more seriously, I never thought that they'd have such unusual abilities.

Layla also nodded and replied, "Mn, since they can counter my spell and block your weaker arrows, I'll just engage with them in direct combat, you can use the chance to take down Irene with a stronger arrow, her ability is the most troublesome."

At this moment, Irene had ended her technique, her face seemed a bit paler, as her breath was unsteady while she looked at Layla with sharp eyes.

Julie also stared at Layla and adopted a battle posture, taking out two curved weapons as she spoke, "Hehe, Layla, without that spell of yours, or those troublesome arrows from Emilia. It looks like we'll be fighting in close range, I hope that you'll at least be able to last a few rounds."

Layla hearing this smirked as she twirled her scepter and gripped it as if she was holding an ax as she replied, "Fine with me, either way, it makes no difference."

Both Irene and Julie were a bit suspicious of her confidence, but they didn't overthink it and merely showed sneering looks.

The party of females stared at each other, as an explosion from a distant battle acted as their battle bell. They rapidly charged towards each other, no different from graceful roses swept by the wind in the fields.

Not too far away from this scene, on top of a large building, Evan silently stood as he overlooked the different battles taking in all of their opponent's information in a curious manner.

....

Evan, having viewed these details, couldn't help but find it interesting as he smirked while thinking, 'They aren't bad, those guys didn't say anything about fighting the locals during that lifetime. However, judging by these skills, they should prove quite the challenge even against Ascenders with Stat Boosted Talents. Heh, they should be a good source of training for Joe, Emilia, and Layla. They need to learn how to fight against other humans, especially those with unusual abilities.'

As Evan thought to himself, a light stepping noise was heard behind him, causing him to smile as he didn't even turn around, but spoke out loud, "Well, it seems that it's our time to get started, I'll be generous and give you three chances before I make my move."

Leo, who stood behind Evan, was surprised, these words angered him, but the scene that happened next had utterly stupefied him, rousing him from his arrogance thoughts.
