Chapter 184 Fighting The Ninth (2)
The ninth smiled as he pointed the thin, translucent blade at Jake. Just looking at it, Jake knew that a single attack from that was enough to end his life.
Only if he defended with his armor gauntlets would he have a chance to survive.
A sword that thin and that light, it would probably be quick, and deadly. But using a sword like that also meant that the ninth would have very low defense.
Jake could see his opponent's health bar. It was just what Jake expected from someone who was suppressed to the first tier.
Being a mage of some sort, the ninth didn't have a lot of HP. Not much more than Jake, in fact. All he had was five thousand health points.
One good attack would be enough to end it all.
"One reflect that lands properly and that should be enough. But I have to use that on the right, life threatening attack. I can't just use it on just about every single slash." Jake told himself.
That was when the ninth moved. He made the first move, dashing forward with speed that shocked Jake.
The ninth as fast with this sword. He was so quick that Jake barely had any time to react before the ninth appeared just inches away, his sword about to slash forward.
But moments were enough for Jake to raise his sword and deflect the blow that was coming toward him.
A silver light struck Jake's blade and his hand trembled. The sword looked light, yet it felt anything but. The strike was heavy, and Jake was pushed back a few steps.
"You have good reflexes. I am facing a veteran here, am I?" The ninth chuckled as he slowly started walking around Jake.
Jake knew that making the first move would be his disadvantage. Against an opponent so strong, and so fast, making the first move was practically begging the opponent to destroy him with one counter.
His sides would be open, and he would be open to any attack on either flank.
Blur
The ninth moved once more, and this time, he was nowhere to be seen. It was like he had disappeared completely.
"Think. I must be a skill that keeps him invisible for a little while. Where would be the right place for him to strike?" Jake questioned himself.
He then smiled as he held his sword with both hands, and tilted it slightly as he held his ground.
Clang!
His sword was met with another once more. This time, the ninth's illusory figure appeared in front of Jake before solidifying.
"How did you know that I was coming from the front? This is interesting. I thought that I was going to be facing a green horn. To think that your battle instincts are so good." The ninth smiled.
The wrinkles on his face seemed to laugh along with the ninth, and it was quite menacing to look at.
"Why don't you put your hood back on. That way, I will actually be able to look at you while we fight." Jake taunted.
"What did you say?" The bait was taken.
The ninth's eyes became blood shot as he charged forward.
This charge wasn't quick and agile. It was like that of a bull charging toward a waving cloth.
And all Jake needed to do was move.
"Sword of Hunger!"
Jake activated the skill, his sword glowing with the color of dirt, and swung the sword at the approaching ninth.
The two swords collided, but this was no equal fight. One sword was clearly better than the other. One man was clearly stronger than the other.
Lucky for Jake, the swords had a greater disparity.
Jake could hear the sound of the sword in the Ninth's hand slightly cracking. A blade so thin would definitely crack when hit by a sword of this caliber so hard.
But the sword didn't crack.
The ninth retreated as he held his sword up in the air to look at the damage done.
"You actually did this much damage to my sword? I should hang you for this insolence!" He exclaimed.
Jake smiled as he glanced at his sword. There was still one more thing that he could try out today. One thing that he could use to finish off this battle.
But his opponent didn't intend to play around anymore.
In the blink of an eye, the ninth was no longer standing where Jake last saw him. Instead, he was back where he started, right next to the staff that he put on the ground.
Holding up the staff, he glanced coldly at Jake.
"This was a sword that master gave me after all that I have contributed. You darned brat. You dare damage it?" The ninth was celery enraged by what had just happened.
"I will make sure that you will suffer the consequences for this!"
[User has been hit with Branding. If User dies in the next two days, you will not be able to revive in the next two days.]
Jake's expression became solemn. His opponent was using his main weapon, and this was an existence that was supposed to be in the seventh tier. It was no someone that Jake could just beat easily.
The skills that he had would definitely be way too difficult to guard.
Seeing that he was raising his staff to cast a spell, Jake knew that he had to break the cast.
He shot forward as fast as he could.
The same way that the ninth dealt with Ganshin, he dealt with Jake.
A purple barrier appeared in front of Jake, one that Jake knew couldn't be broken by any normal means.
But what Jake intended to use was no normal means.
"Sword of Thirst!"
He shouted.
As he did, sparks of blue lightning began to dance around Jake's sword. His sword shone with a brilliant blue.
Then, he swung.
