Chapter 180 Center Of The Labyrinth

Jake and Ganshin stared straight at the center of the path that they were supposed to take. The walls of dried leaves created a simple pathway that was covered in stone.

The stone had some mold on it, with plants and moss eating away in some small creases.

This was a quite run down entrance, but it was not what made Jake hesitate to go in immediately. Ganshin words made him flinch.

Those vile beasts? Plural? Just how many beasts were there and how many could he face at once?

"Are there any others within? Or is it just the beasts inside?" Jake asked.

"I do not know. While I can sense the evil energy of the beasts, sensing holy energy is something only priests and paladins can do. It is not within my power to do that." Ganshin shook his head and said.

"This is exactly why the Evil god is much stronger than the god of light. If there are restrictions on who can even sense the holy energy, then how many followers can you get?" Jake grumbled as he told himself.

He dared not voice these thoughts when there was a hard core NPC right next to him.

"Come. I will lead the way. If you have any skills that can target crowds, now is the time to use them. I can sense a few beasts within, and if all of them attack at once, then we will have to be prepared." Ganshin said.

Jake shook his head.

"I don't have an AOE skill, sword master. But do not worry. I will make sure to pull my weight around here." Jake smiled and said.

"That is too bad. Well then, don't worry about it. Stay behind me." Ganshin said as he started walking.

Closing in on the entrance to the center, Jake could hear the sounds of whatever was inside. These monsters grunted quite loudly, and whenever they moved even slightly, Jake could hear a squishy sound.

And for some reason, it felt like they were moving a lot. These monsters suddenly started howling, like they were looking at something, or someone that had trespassed.

"Did they sense us?" Jake's fist tensed up.

Still, Ganshin showed no signs of stopping. Instead, his pace quickened up just a little bit as he furrowed his brows.

"Those howls, they are not for us. Who are they facing? I hear not a single clash. It might be a priest." He muttered as he started running.

Jake had no other choice but to follow after Ganshin.

And when they reached the entrance, Jake could peek at what was inside.

It was a circle, like Jake had expected. A circle that spanned a few meters.

But what was within the circle though, he didn't expect.

He thought that there were multiple vile beasts, evil beasts of all tiers, waiting to rip him apart into shreds. What he saw, instead, was that there was not a single beast in sight.

This was a barren ground that he saw.

The dirt brown as it could be, with only one thing here that seemed out of place.

A coffin. A coffin that was made out of stones stood in the center of this place.

Jake glanced at Ganshin, who was also shocked at what was in front of him. He also didn't expect to see what he was looking at.

"That coffin. That isn't supposed to exist." He muttered.

And obviously, the rock that they were supposed to look for, that was not visible anywhere. But Jake could feel it. The evil energy that emanated from this rock, came from none other than the coffin.

Within the coffin, to be precise.

"Now, we have to open up that coffin to take out the devilish rock. Of course, we do. Who knows what we are going to wake up if we do that." Jake said, shaking his head.

Ganshin didn't say a word as he slowly started walking toward the coffin naturally.

He gravitated toward it, and his hands slowly reached for it.

Jake looked at this, and looking at Ganshin's blank face, it was like Ganshin was in some sort of spell.

He quickly rushed forward and grabbed Ganshin's hands.

"Forgive me, Sword master. But I am forced to do this." He said as he was about to raise his hand to slap the sword master back to his senses.

But Jake's hand was stopped by something else. A cold hand gripped his right palm, stopping it from moving any further.

"I am still in possession of my faculties, Baron. Thank you very much, but you don't need to hit me to bring me back to my senses." Ganshin said with a cold voice.

A cold sweat ran across Jake's forehead as he looked at Ganshin with a hint of fear. What was he going to think?

"Thank you for your concern, but whatever is in this, it will not, cannot harm us." Ganshin shook his head and said.

Jake was curious now. He glanced at the coffin a little closer, and could see that the top cover had some engraving on it.

As Ganshin was just a little taller than Jake was, Ganshin could see if faster.

Jake read the inscription and his eyes grew wider with surprise and shock.

"The saint! Saint Ester's grave! To think that he was buried along with what was responsible for the defiling of his holy ground." Jake shook his head.

"But how can you be so sure that whatever is within cannot harm us, Sword master? You said that he sent you away and that was why he lost his life. When why would the enemy give the saint a proper send off?" Jake asked.

,m "Because they didn't. Those bastards, they bet one of their best artifacts and tried to convert the saint." Ganshin cursed.
