Chapter 149: Zandel's Baptism
'Me and my big mouth...' Zandel wanted to kill himself.
*Bzzzz!*
Yet, the moment he heard the Lightning Sound from Linfel, he quickly ran ahead. "Here, golem, golem, golem. Hereeeeee, golem, golem, golem..."
It wasn't a golem what they found next, though. Instead, several bars of bronze-like metals detached from the walls and gathered. In a moment, something like a star-shaped being appeared. This one didn't seem to have a core like the golem, either.
Zandel got nervous. He knew it was a Bronze Elemental. Nonetheless, he gritted his teeth and charged forward.
*Bzzz!*
*Ouch!*
Too bad he was zapped on his buttocks the moment he tried to do that.
*Zush!*
Then, the Bronze Element came crashing down on him, all the bars pointing forward, trying to pierce Zandel's body.
Zandel was scared of his mind and immediately tried to jump away. Linfel's intervention completely threw him out of synch.
*Bang!*
Unfortunately, one of the thick bronze bars hit his chest, sending him flying against the wall. He coughed out blood and then looked at Linfel in the distance. Why did he do that? Is Linfel trying to kill him?
However, Linfel just spoke without caring too much. "I said thirty magic channels; you used thirty-one just now when you tried to charge at the Bronze Elemental. I will zap you every time you miss the target."
The Bronze Elemental didn't wait for Zandel and Linfel to finish their words, though. It once again shot in Zandel's direction, trying to finish the job.
Zandel, without another choice, focused even more on his Magic Channels, this time truly only using thirty. He then managed to avoid the impact of the bronze bars, turning around and attacking with his Magic Energy and Element. There, his element appeared for the first time.
Various roots or vines sprouted from the ground and tried to pierce the Bronze Elementals' bars. Zandel was a Wood Element user.
*Bang, bang, bang...*
Unfortunately, the Bronze Element was too resistant. The roots completely failed to cause any damage whatsoever. All they succeeded in was to slow the Bronze Elemental slightly for Zandel to take some distance. "Linfel, this doesn't work! My affinity with this thing is too poor!
Even worse, just thirty magic channels is way too little to be able to produce any powerful enough attack to damage this thing! I'm gonna die here!"
*Bang, bang, bang!*
The Bronze Elemental continued to attack, forcing Zandel to dodge nonstop and use his Wood Element to create vines and roots to hold and slow it down. It was particularly difficult since the first attack broke a few of Zanel's ribs, all because of Linfel's intervention.

Linfel watched all of that, not concerned. "Is that so? Good! I told you, didn't I? If you think you are going to die, then the training is going as planned. Give it your best!"
"What?!" Zandel began to think about running away. This was ridiculous. He was at too much of a disadvantage! "Kefin, help me!"
However, Linfel held Kefin in place, not allowing Zandel's Familiar to charge to help Zandel. Had Linfel not done that, Kefin would have jumped at the Bronze Elemental a long time ago. "That won't do."
Zandel noticed that in the distance and wanted to cry. Was he going to die here today? Zandel finally decided that he would use all his Magic Channels. If Linfel tried to zap him again, he would just flee.
However, Linfel's words reached his ears before he made his move. "Zandel, this is not your limit. You are at risk at the moment and hoping for our help. However, what will happen if no one is near you next time you fall into danger? Will you just give up? What if you don't even have the choice of fleeing?"
"Focus! This Bronze Elemental has a strength similar to your own at Level Four. It's just that I'm not allowing you to use all your Magic Channels at once. Look at the Bronze Elemental. Why is it moving? Something must be controlling it, but what?
You know this dungeon and the type of Magic Beasts and the Ventis Sect puppets like the golems. Don't give up that easily. Find a way out instead!"
*Bang!*
Zandel was taken aback, dodging another attack from the Bronze Elemental. Indeed, how are these bars moving together even though they are not attached to each other? There is no core here, so what is controlling it.
It was then that Zandel remembered his last three days running while using just a few magic channels and changing them constantly. It was all about Magic Control... and with Magic Control, you also get better at Magic Sense.
*Zush, zush, zush!*
Zandel accumulated as much Magic Energy as he could with his thirty available magic channels and once again created the vines and roots. They all shot at the Bronze Elemental, but it wasn't an attack. Instead, they tried to hold it down.
*Snap, snap, snap...*
Yet, it was obvious they wouldn't hold for more than a second or two. That was enough, though. All Zandel wanted was a small moment of respite so he could focus his own Magic Sense on the Bronze Elemental.
*Snap!*
Finally, the last roots and vines broke, and the Bronze Elemental got free. It spun at high speeds and shot in Zandel's direction again. It was as if it got angry for being held just now.
However, Zandel ignored it and turned to the side. "There!" He once again controlled his Wood Element, and several vines and roots shot from the ground, piercing a specific point on the wall.
*Crack! Crash!*
As soon as they did, an inconspicuous rock fell to the ground and broke into several parts. Yet, the insides were completely different. They looked like a yellow gem that had just been shattered.
When that happened, the Bronze Elemental Bars immediately stopped.
*Clang, clang, clang...*
All the Bronze Bars fell to the ground, hitting each other with metallic sounds until they became inactive. The Bronze Elemental was no more.
Zandel looked to his side, feeling a chill on his back. The Bronze Bars were just a few meters from him. If that last attack hadn't worked, he would have been pierced and probably killed. "So close..."
"Master!" Kefin quickly came to Zandel's side, feeling concerned.
*Clap, clap, clap!*
Yet, Alvin, Nori, and Milia clapped at him. "Well done, Zandel. That was great! Consider it your baptism. We all went through this craziness."
Linfel approached as well. "It wasn't that terrible. I still had to give you a clue, but you figured it out in the end. Let me heal you, and let's find our next target. Someone go there and collect the Bronze Elemental parts. There are definitely contracts that buy them."
Zandel bitterly smiled. "I hope I can survive to the end..."
