Chapter 612: They Actually Have Some Skills
I returned to the arena with my group and the people who saw me enter were making confused noises in the stands.
"What are they doing back here again?"
"Did they change the teams?"
"I lost six hundred Creas because of them!"
"They're definitely cheating!"
"... You guys are so dead... I have nothing to do with those guys, I swear..."
The last guy seemed a little weird but I just ignored them and went to the arena.
We had already gone to bet on ourselves and I placed a ten thousand Crea bet that we would win of course. The others went to bet all their winnings from the preliminaries as well so they really went all in on it.
I would have bet more but they placed a cap on the maximum amount that each of us could bet unfortunately, which was at five thousand each.
I could only bet that ten thousand thanks to Eins, of course.
Oh well, at least it's better than the odds we were getting before this.
The other two teams entered from the other side and the crowd got even more noisy.
I already figured they were most likely wondering what was going on so I didn't pay attention to them and looked at my party instead.
"Alright... How confident are we in winning this actually?"
"Mistress, we will not fail you," Katsuki declared as though it was a given fact.
Odeta gave me a thumbs up, "Yeah! I'll beat them all for you!"
Lisa giggled, "Don't worry, my Mistress~ You can punish me if we fail~ Actually... You can punish me if we succeed too please~"
Delmare simply held up her notebook with a soft smile, 'We'll do our best, Aster! <3'
Eins simply stared at me with a blank look on her face though I could tell that she knew I wanted them to win and she intends to do just that.
The announcer then stepped up onto the stage at that time, calming the crowd down with a placating wave of his hand.
"Dear guests! We have a very special arrangement for this battle! Instead of this being the semi-finals, this shall be the final match between team sixty and teams six and three! That's right everyone, this is going to be a five versus ten battle! Because of this arrangement, we are changing the odds of team sixty's bets to one point five while the other teams will remain the same!
If you have already placed your bets, do not worry! They are still valid and will count in this new arrangement! If you would like to make new bets, please approach one of the brokers! Do note that we will not accept any changes to existing bets!"
There were a few cries of outrage coming from some of the spectators but the announcer simply ignored them and turned towards us.
"Leaders of the teams, please step up to the stage! We shall begin the finals of the match right now!"
He's just going to ignore their complaints I see...
Well, it doesn't concern me anyway so let's just get this started.
The two Mahuns from the other side stepped up onto the stage at the same time as me, all three of us stopping in front of the announcer who was holding just a box in his hands.
He gave me a look, "Since you are at a disadvantage here in terms of numbers, you are allowed to start first and draw the number of support they will get. You will receive double the number of support that they will get as well. Does anyone here have any objections?"
All of us shook our heads.
Well, I guess at least they were still trying to keep it fair to a certain extent.
He then presented the box to me and I stuck my hand in it and started digging around inside the box.
And... A piece of paper slipped into my fingers again.
I frowned slightly, wondering just who was influencing this and whether they were working in my favour or against me?
I can't even tell using the previous match as a reference because it's not like it was in the Yoblin's favour either. Since I've barely used any support for my team, perhaps they thought that it would be in my favour if there were no support instead?
Deciding to just take the risk, I pulled out the paper that had slipped into my hand and handed it to the announcer.
He unfolded it to reveal the number five printed on the paper.
"The combined teams of six and three will have five support units! As for team sixty, they will have ten support units! The match will begin shortly!"
Oh, I suppose that's not a bad number. There's just enough support points for me to 'revive' my entire team in the event of a wipe while they can only bring back two of their own at most.
I descended from the stage and everyone nodded at me, showing me that they were ready.
"I'm sending out everyone," I announced.
As though they were waiting for that exact command, all the girls leapt on the stage the moment those words left my lips.
I was fully expecting the other side to spend some time to decide who they will send against my team but surprisingly, the both of them simply nodded at each other before five of their team members made their way on the stage as well.
They must have already discussed this ahead of time and expected me to send everyone at the start.
Looking at their team's composition, it consisted of a fully armoured Mahun wielding a tower shield and a hammer, a female Amrap using two double bladed axes, a male Wrunch with a two handed warhammer, a female Trasif with a staff that outed her as a mage and a male Mahun healer at the very back.
It's basically a standard party setup so nothing about it that especially stands out.
As for our side, we were still using the same formation where Odeta was standing at the front while Katsuki and Delmare stood behind her followed by Lisa and Eins.
The announcer looked at both sides and once he confirmed that both sides were ready, he raised his hand into the air.
"The first round of the final match... Begin!!"
Odeta and their tank charged at the same time, the Mahun raising his shield in an attempt to hit Odeta with a shield bash.
In response, Odeta had her fist pulled back and I realised she was chanting the spell for [Body Current], activating the spell to buff her fist before punching it forward.
The resulting shockwave from the clash shook the entire arena and even reached the stands as well. The merchant slave owner even fell on his haunches as a result from the blast.
I was more surprised that their tank even managed to withstand Odeta's blow and only slid back a metre or so.
Odeta immediately tried to press her advantage and leapt towards the Mahun while he was still regaining his footing.
He saw her coming and instead of raising his shield like before, he swung his hammer towards her instead.
Odeta reached out her hand and caught the hammer swing by grabbing the Mahun's wrist, only to have his shield smash against her side and forcing her back.
Katsuki tried to support Odeta by using her speed to try and attack the tank from behind.
But before she could even get close to him, a blast of fire was shot out from the Trasif mage, forcing Katsuki to back away to avoid getting burned.
I could see that she was thinking about using her own Pyromancy but I'm guessing she wanted to keep it as a trump card for now.
Delmare also tried to support Odeta from the other side but the Amrap blocked her way, the combat slave swinging her axe in a large arc that almost cleaved Delmare in two had she not stopped just outside of her range.
Their Wrunch team mate then leapt over the Mahun tank to attack Odeta with his warhammer while she was still reeling from being struck by the shield.
She tried to block it with her arm and the hammer smashed into her raised arm, sending her skidding back and almost knocking into Lisa from the blow.
Lisa finished chanting her [Laser] spell and fired it at the tank, only for him to raise his shield with a shout.
"[Magic Fortress]!!"
A translucent shield appeared in front of him and completely blocked the spell without it leaving a scratch on it.
The Wrunch then raised his hammer with both hands with a roar, "[Tremor Smash]!"
The hammer was brought down on the arena and it created a shockwave that blasted everyone flying towards the outside of the arena.
They were just about to cross the threshold when a strong gust of wind blew them back to land near the edge of the arena instead, courtesy of Eins using her Aeromancy.
Damn... We almost lost the round right there...
Girls? I think all of you should get serious...
