Chapter 222
222 NORMAL HUMANS WOULDN’T LIVE HERE
Bai Chen was sure that Zhu Ge was teasing him. Before he even turned to look at the taller man, he already knew that the taller man was taunting him from the tone of his voice alone. It was obvious that the man was trying to hold back his laughter, and when Bai Chen finally looked at him again, it was evident that Zhu Ge was trying his best to control his mouth so he wouldn’t burst out laughing.
The Werewolf Prince looked annoyed by that, and he angrily rebuked the man, “Just answer my question! Are your parents home or not?”
Zhu Ge was actually not wrong with his question earlier. Ever since Bai Chen remembered Zhu Ge’s parents, he suddenly became nervous when he thought about what he should do when he met the man’s parents.
Maybe Zhu Ge had teased him earlier, but Bai Chen knew that Zhu Ge was right about ‘meeting the in-laws,’ and that was why he suddenly felt anxious.
Even when he was still in his previous life, he had never met his girlfriend’s parents, nor had he ever thought about how and when he should meet her parents.
For some reason, Bai Chen had already guessed that his relationship with his girlfriend would not last long, and that was why he didn’t think much of their future.
Sure enough, Bai Chen’s hunch was accurate because he did have to part with his girlfriend before they could start a more serious relationship, but he didn’t expect that the cause behind the breakup was his death. Who would have thought he would die so young?
Bai Chen suddenly remembered his girlfriend when he had a new lover in this world, and that was why he secretly scolded his brain as he tried to focus his attention on Zhu Ge again.
It was not that he missed his ex-girlfriend or anything like that, but he only remembered her because of the current circumstances. Nevertheless, he still felt guilty for thinking about someone else when he was with his new boyfriend now, and that was why he secretly reprimanded himself.
.....
“You won’t be meeting your in-laws today,” Zhu Ge replied, and the way he once again said the word “in-law” only made Bai Chen blush even harder.
“Stop using that word to describe your parents in front of me!” The man wearing white clothes once again rebuked the taller man, but the taller man only chuckled.
“Why can’t I use that word to describe my parents in front of you? You have agreed to marry me, so my parents will be your in-laws, right? I’m not wrong with that,” Zhu Ge reasoned, and Bai Chen felt that the sun was closer to his cheek now as he could feel his cheeks burning at the man’s words.
It was ridiculous because the tree canopy was enough to block out the sun, and it certainly wasn’t the sun that dared to burn his cheeks. The culprit behind the burning sensation on his cheeks was Zhu Ge, but Bai Chen couldn’t deny that he felt embarrassed just because the man mentioned their marriage.
After all, Bai Chen still remembered how he agreed to marry the man, and even if the main reason for his approval was the mission from the system, he still couldn’t dodge it because the system had told him not to dump Zhu Ge after the two of them started a romantic relationship.
“Are your parents out at the moment?” Choosing to ignore the burning sensation on his face, Bai Chen questioned Zhu Ge.
“No,” fortunately, Zhu Ge immediately replied without prolonging his ridicule. “My parents didn’t live with me in the first place, and that’s why you won’t be able to meet them even after you arrive here.”
Bai Chen should have breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that he wouldn’t be meeting his ‘in-law’ today, but he was, for some reason, focused on the last sentence the raven-haired man spoke.
“Your parents don’t live with you in this house? So, when you told me that you needed to meet your father on a full moon night not long ago, you didn’t return to this house but went to your parent’s house?” Bai Chen quickly connected the dots, and he immediately asked a question because he was quite curious about the man’s parents.
Zhu Ge rarely spoke about his family, and perhaps the man only talked about it when he told him how his family fell from a higher ground and hit the hard pavement. His parents used to be rich, but now they were poor, and that was probably the only thing Bai Chen knew about his ‘in-law.’
“You still remember that, ah?” Zhu Ge asked back instead of answering, and he even once again smirked at the shorter man. “It’s good that you still remember that, and you’re right about your theory. When I said I had to go see my father, it meant I went to my parent’s house, and that’s why I had to go back to the city then. That’s why it took so long for me before I could return to your palace at that time.”
Zhu Ge often lied to him, but Bai Chen didn’t see the slightest hint of lies on the man’s face now, and the man also seemed relaxed as he recounted what had happened to him around three weeks ago.
Bai Chen was quite satisfied with the man’s answer, and that was why he turned to the hut again as his blue eyes once again studied the pitiful building that might collapse if there was a storm in the forest.
“Why don’t you live with your parents in the city?” The Prince asked again as his head generated a series of curiosity. “I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t think normal humans would want to live in a place like this, so why are you staying here instead of living with your parents in the city? Is it because you don’t have a good relationship with them?”
