Chapter 282 Serious Talk (2)
Jake wondered why that guy was taking his time approaching… didn't he have to watch the base of his base against someone else? In any case, Jake assumed that the master of the fire golems wasn't that smart. He was also a tall and extremely muscular guy who was armed with a spear. Aside from that, his most prominent characteristics were the fact that he had two horns and thirty percent of his torso, and his entire left arm looked robotic. As one could imagine, Jake had no idea what species would have that kind of look. And to make things worse…

Jake used Appraisal, again and again, imagining that the enemy wouldn't have that much mana to keep Mental Armor active, but his guess was wrong. That guy had a lot… It was hard to imagine that it was a trap. Jake harassed him so much with his plans that it was only natural that the warrior types would be the ones to first their patience and come to attack him.
"Well, this makes things easier…" Jake thought.
The enemy had confidence in his skills, and he also had a powerful presence. He passed the same type of feeling that Vare once passed to Jake, so he was definitely stronger than him.
"This fight will drag on, but I can't let the other guy take notice of it… Unfortunately, I will have to fight close to my base to prevent unpleasant surprises," Jake thought.
With that in mind, Jake waited for the spearman to approach a lot more. Once that happened, he showed up alone outside his base to face that guy. It would be better if he didn't use his Golems, so he decided to challenge that guy's pride before anything. In the end, things worked like that since the monsters stepped back.
There was no need for pleasantries, so the robotic spearman charged at Jake and thrust his weapon toward his head. Jake dodged to the side, but the pressure of that attack still cut a bit off his right cheek. Still, Jake ignored that and tried to cut the enemy in two with his energy sword. Unfortunately, he jumped backward and dodged the attack.
"Considering the format of his body, his movements are pretty fluid…" Jake thought.
Jake wondered what he should do… go all out and try to finish the battle before someone else tries to attack the back of my base or take my time here? Both options had their merits and demerits, so Jake didn't know what to do…
While thinking, the enemy suddenly advanced, and this time, he threw the spear at Jake's stomach. He was forced to dodge to the side, and as if the opponent knew where he would go, he appeared right in front of him and punched with his robotic arm. Jake blocked with his sword, but he was pushed backward for twenty meters before stopping. His sword trembled for a while, and the enemy recovered his spear while looking at him.
"Despite his pride, he seems to be the cold analytical type… he has a good head to come up with tricks like that as well," Jake thought.
It was rare for Jake to fight opponents that were like him, even more so when they were obviously stronger. Usually, they would be stupidly prideful… in any case, the spearman dashed again, but his speed was different than before. He wasn't as eager as before, and he began to launch some thrusts that didn't have much power behind them, but they were fast and made Jake walk backward several times.
It seemed that the spearman didn't want to give Jake the chance to block since his energy blade could damage the spear… still, his speed wasn't something that Jake couldn't follow with his eyes… things continued like that until the enemy suddenly attacked the ground, and an explosion happened.
Jake immediately jumped backward, but once again, the enemy moved like he had predicted that. The spear moved toward his heart, but Jake blocked it with his shield. Still, the impact made him fly for thirty meters, and before he could land, the spearman used a body slam, and while Billy blocked with his shield again, he was pushed backward and began to roll on the ground. When he stopped and tried to get up, he saw the enemy jumping and approaching him with his spear in his hands and ready to impale him…
Jake had some options, but most of them required him to show some of his tricks, and that wasn't a good idea, at least not for now. Without thinking, he relied on his strike of raising a dust curtain by attacking the ground with his sword.
Since the enemy lost sight of Jake, he only hit the ground with his weapon, and he used the same to move forward without landing on the ground. The robotic spearman spun a few times in the air, only to land and saw Jake in the opposite direction and even closer to his base. The enemy was also closer to Jake's army than his own, so he wondered how things would play out… in the end, Jake just stepped forward without relying on any tricks like using his wolves.
"I need to solve this fast…" Jake thought.
Jake barely caused any damage, so perhaps he was getting reckless while holding back his powers as well. Still, in the end, that would be good training, and he wouldn't have the chance to use all of his powers against every single enemy, after all. It was hard to find the middle ground in those kinds of situations, when he should and when he shouldn't use his innate skills... life wasn't that complicated before, but everything comes with a price. So, he just shook his head and focused on the task ahead.
