Chapter 232 Enhanced Strength (4)
"Who are you?" One of the guards of the place asked.
"My name is Jake, and I want to clear that dungeon," Jake replied.
"Do you know what happened here a few days ago?" The guard asked.
"What about it?" Jake asked.
The guard was a tall spearman, it was hard to tell his physical features since he was using a helmet, but it seemed to be an American who had black hair and brown eyes. Nevertheless, he frowned a little when Jake replied like that, and it was almost like he didn't care much about the incident. There was no point in dwelling on the past, but they had to work hard to prevent the same things from happening.
"Few people have to clear this dungeon right now. We only need to protect it from forced dungeon breaks," The guard said. "Why would you need to clear this dungeon right now?"
"Why do I have to explain myself to you?" Jake asked. "Isn't normal to want to clear the dungeons of the worlds that we obtain access to?"
Jake was getting pissed… he wondered if he had some allergy to guilds; he always seems to be in a bad mood when he is close to one. Nevertheless, his question was legit. No one, after completing the tutorial, had to respond to others when they weren't part of a group, guild, or alliance. There was no government there so that they could do pretty much everything. They had to deal with the consequences, but for people like Jake, there was nothing to fear. He didn't do anything to deserve being attacked by those groups, and they would become infamous if they started attacking people for no reason.
"... I will talk with the guild master and ask her what she does have to say about this," the guard said.
Jake almost rolled his eyes, and he had better things to do than the recreated bureaucracy of the guilds. Everyone hates it, but they still keep bringing those things back… Nevertheless, Jake decided to wait patiently since he didn't have many options right at the moment.
Eventually, a tall, redhead who was carrying a big red bow on her back showed up. Jake wasn't the type to get surprised at the beauty of a woman, but this time he couldn't help but blink several times. Not only was she incredibly pretty since she had long red hair tied up in a ponytail, but she was also wearing light armor, which worked pretty well to accentuate her curves, mainly her chest line. She had quite the pair of bazoongas.
"Who are you again?" The woman guild master asked.
"Chuck Norris," Jake replied. "What is the point of trying to make yourself look more important by trying to look like you forgot my name when your underling just told you?"
"Bad attitude, arrogance, sarcasm… All come from a kid who isn't even twenty…" The redhead guild master said. "You are just like Frederick said.
Jake was fully aware that he was a pain in the ass, but he was quite sure that he wasn't at the level of the guild masters. They annoyed him down to an instinctual level, and that made sense now… they felt and acted like they were the bastions of law and justice. Everyone in front of them had to treat them with respect because of their positions, even those that had never heard of them in the first place… that was bullshit.
"We can't exactly block your path, and since Frederick mentioned that you might come and ask me to be cooperative, then I can assume that you aren't a problem like the criminals," The redhead said.
"Why, thank you," Jake said.
"Still, that is his opinion, and I have mine," The redhead said. "As long as we are here, we will be careful to avoid other problematic situations. You can clear the dungeon, but you will have to follow some rules and wait until we are about to enter the dungeon. We will defeat the boss, and you will also get the rewards."
That seemed pretty annoying... but Jake had already defeated one of the bosses that the dungeon could spawn. Now that he knew what the enemy could do, his chances of losing were pretty small. The only problem was the fact that Jake wouldn't get the item that he wanted.
"I am fine with that, but I need an item that only the monsters here can drop, so I will keep returning until I get it," Jake said.
"It is Scarlet Tribal Armor, right?" The redhead asked. "We can sell it to you for three hundred coins."
The price seemed a bit too high, but since it was a rare drop of that mission, Jake assumed that she wasn't increasing the price that much. Besides, Jake had enough coins to buy it and the less time he wastes on that mission and near any guild, the better.
"All right, I will buy it," Jake said.
The armor was different from the type that Jake asked for, just by considering the name… In any case, the redhead guided Jake to the center of the camp and asked him to wait there. He felt some stares while he was waiting, but Jake was used to it, so he ignored them.
After a while, the redhead bought the armor that mainly was connected by chains in the parts since it only covered the sides of his body. The red pieces of metal could protect only a small amount of his chest. It was probably an armor that would be effective in the hands of a fighter who focuses on dodging with melee weapons. Julian's image showed up in Jake's mind, but he had no idea how the kid usually fights.
