Book 2: Chapter 5 (6/8)
Sybell knew Lord Noe Clerico is a level 100 Conjurer Mage. Therefore, he is supposed to be very strong. Even so, Conjuration Magic is the weakest type of magic if compared to all other Elemental. And because Noe hadnt left the Bifjorkian Theocracy for more than three million years, many people didnt know how strong he truly was. That was why Sybell wasnt happy when she heard Noe advised the Grand Duke to send troops toward Guruchi city instead of Slu city as she had requested despite knowing Noe arrived at Slu to help her fight against the Demi-Humans invasion. More importantly, Noe dared to sit in the Duchess's chair instead of the guest chair like he was supposed to.
As a young two hundred seventy two (272) years old tenth-tier warrior, Sybell believed that she would advance into Saint-tier in warrior training arts within twelve hundred years from now. And one day she will reach the highest stage of Saint-tier Warrior which is Stage Eleventh. By that time, Sybell will induce a civil war in the Grand Duchy of Macmalian to declare herself as the Grand Duke of this country. If the adopted son Kain Almos can reach the Saint-tier in magical training, then he can get some influence in the Mages Council which will help her better secure the Grand Duke's throne. Sybell was very happy to know that Kain Almos was recruited to join the Gray before he even graduated from the Mages Academy. This meant he was a very good student and she had made the right decision of adopting him.
The next day. The Dryardian Empire launched another small-scale attack toward the West gate. This time, they only sent four hundred thousand troops to attack. Duchess Graylock calmly directed her troops to defend the West gate while continuously paying attention to other gates preventing any kind of surprise attack from the Demi-Humans. Lord Clerico didnt even bother to observe the battle. He spent time walking around the city to observe citizens handling their daily life routines.
Slu is a mid-size city that has more than two hundred million residences with a total count of more than three hundred million population. But if compared to the colossal-size city such as Flumen of Bifjorkian Theocracy, Slu isnt worth mentioning. Due to an ongoing war with the Dryardian Empire, all farmers, ranchers, and villagers of all villages near the bother cities to the West of the Grand Duchy of Macmalian have to be evacuated to prevent being massacred by the Demi-Humans. Most of the villagers headed for Elelhyr, Elvenalonse, Manorelienor, and Dreggar cities while farmers and ranchers remained at Ehweiler, Slu, and Guruchi cities waiting for the war to be over. Each city has several well-prepared food storages, wells, and a special section built for ranchers and farmers. Therefore, the city could still feed its citizens for at least a year while being besieged by the enemies.
Lord Clerico waved at one of the female soldiers who was escorting him and asked, "I have noticed this city has more than four hundred million population, isn't that overcrowded?"
"Your Grace, it was because the ranchers, farmers, and villagers decided to stay inside this city instead of evacuated to far cities of the East."
"I understand about ranchers and farmers. Why would the villagers remain inside this city too? Isn't that will shorten the food storage much quicker?"
"Yes, but evacuating villagers to the far East cities will take much longer. Unless we received a major indication that the Dryarian Empire was launching a full-scale attack, we won't evacuate all the villagers to the far East cities."
"By that time y'all receive an indication of a full-scale attack, it would be too late, isn't it?"
"Your Grace, we have been at war with the Dryarian Empire for too long to know when they will launch an actual invasion against our nation."
"Are you saying this time the Dryardian Empire still hasn't launched a full-scale invasion yet despite having brought over a hundred million troops?"
"No, Your Grace. At first, we thought they were keeping us busy so we can't assist the Shota Empire. However, the troops that they have sent to attack Ehweiler, Slu, and Guruchi cities this time are considered an actual full-scale invasion."
"Then you have agreed with me that your Duchess had made a mistake of not evacuating the villagers, yea?"
"I... I can't answer this question, Your Grace."
Put that aside, how come the people in this city can still remain calm despite being under siege by the Dryardian Empire?
The female soldier answered in a respectful tone, Your Grace, it was because they experienced dealing with constant war from the Demi-Humans before.
Are you referring to the small-scale invasions? Again, this time is a full-scale invasion, isnt it?
Yes, Your Grace. The citizens didnt know this time the Dryardian Empire had sent that many troops. It was because Duchess Graylock doesnt want her people to be aware of the problem to prevent them from being frightened.
Keeping them in the dark wont be a good thing either. What if the city gates breached and the Demi-Humans got in? By that time the people wont know how to deal with it and massive chaos will occur.
"Under the commands of Duchess Graylock, Ehweiler, Slu, and Guruchi cities have been fortified many times to better protect its citizens. I believe we will be able to hold the enemies for at least three months waiting for backup troops from Lylnesle."
Lord Clerico toured the city of Slu for two more hours before heading toward the West gate to observe the battle. Standing on the West wall, Noe was not disappointed watching the brave soldiers of Slu city strongly defending their city against the Demi-Humans invasion. He nodded his head and said, Duchess Graylock, it seems like your soldiers are very well trained.
Sybell smiled and said in a proud tone, Thank you, Your Grace. My soldiers have been through countless battles against the Dryardian Empire. That was how we created battle tactics to continuously remain to have advantages as the city defenders.
Uhm. I will let one of my creatures attack the enemies to grant them some chaos.
Lord Clerico then casted [Conjure Flaming Earth Golem], a self-created Saint-tier Conjuration magic spell that he had created. Similar to the Earth Golem, but the Flaming Earth Golem will have a flaming aura that burns anything or anyone who comes within twenty feet radius making them the attacker type instead of defender type like the regular Earth Golems. From the West wall, the Flaming Earth Golem jumped down and landed in front of thousands of Demi-Humans. After receiving permission to attack from Lord Clerico, the Flaming Earth Golem started slaying one after another Demi-Humans without a slight hesitation. Despite receiving countless attacks from the enemies, the Golem didnt receive any damage due to its passive ability of [Stone Skin] continuously to protect it. Approximately three hours later, the Flaming Earth Golem killed more than twenty thousand Demi-Humans before it was banished back to its realm by Lord Clerico leaving everyone who witnessed the one-sided massacre speechless.
