Chapter 256 256: Part 1: The Glade Wars I
When Cole returned to the 3rd floor, his orchard was ready to be harvested, but he was neither in the mood or the right frame of mind to take things slow by dealing with mundane tasks. So with only Delarosa and Neral in tow, Cole left his territory heading for the boundary of the Glade. So far he was probably the only member of Glade solitude that had not left the Glades boundary yet to see what the outside world looks like.
Of course Farida tried her hardest to convince him about a different course of action, but if he stayed a second with solitude then he would lose his bloody mind. His family had left him with quite a lot to think about, everything Kaito had said was bullshit, and there was every possibility he was being led into a trap, and it was not the trap itself that was worrying, but the idea that his family would still be scheming to bring about his downfall….. it was heartbreaking.
And for Cole that was saying something, for the whole of his life, in the most of his adult life when things were not so good with them. Cole had been someone who believed family was absolute, perhaps his love for Earth's ancient forms of entertainment were to blame, but almost everything from those era, movies, novels, animes, all of them in one way or the other showed the importance of family.
Of course he was no Klaus Mikaelson, or Dominic Toretto. But he liked to believe he was not so different from those guys, that he would do anything for family and family will come through for him no matter the weather. So far his own story had led him to feel different, but then problem was that he didn't want to change.
If many could remember, Cole's life has always been driven by a love of family. It was why when he was with Sara he tried his hardest to have a baby with her. For him nothing was stronger than the bond of family, and to have that he needed to have a real family, a family of his own. And at the time, Sarah seemed like there's was nothing more in the world she could possibly want and that made him feel special.
Turns out it was all just a lie, but he never gave up hope. He might be very different now…. Darker , bloodthirsty….evil? But his aim of wanting a family has never changed. It was up there woven tightly with his need and hunger for power, the one thing that he needs in order to actually have and be able to protect a family…..and then there was Tehilla. This was hard on both of them, so in the end Cole was not surprised that the call and revelation from his family had caused a little bit of friction between them.
There was a wall between the both of them, and try as he may Cole could not breach it. She just seemed so far away from him at the moment. He shook his head as he took a couple of steps forward and stepped last the boundary. Cole was shocked it still existed, and it did nothing from stopping other aspirants from other Glades entering and attacking his own people, so why was it still here. Cole got his answer as soon as he stepped out and the full world view of Pangea was left open for him to see.
He remembered the first prompt he had received from the system when he first got here, about how this was a forested world. And then when information about the 3rd floor had come about, it had come along with knowledge of it's topography. It's oceans were underground, it's rivers flowing through tree trunks and roots, and it's sky home to floating mountains, similar to a massively successful sci-fi franchise from a few centuries ago of blue skinned alien avatars...kind of similar to his current situation right now.
It was exactly as it had been said to be, but more. Perhaps their Glade had been an isolated incident as Pangea was full of life. There were darklings littering the valley below them, every square inch of it covered and shaded by trees. At the middle of valley was a pillar of light that reached the sky, with A Darkling the size of a plane circling it, a massive butterfly with monochromatic wings, yet the same transparent hollow like energy body of the darklings. On the east, west and possibly the north of the valley were silver domes that also released a beam of light into the sky.
Cole turned around to see that their own dome was golden, but there was no beam of light reaching up into the sky. It made him ponder why that would be as a darkling snake rushed past the grass in front of him. He turned to Neral and asked the Cyber dog or rather the Cyber Baneling dog? Or Baneling Cyber Dog…..Advanced Baneling Cyber Dog…..A.B.C.D ? Cole shook his head as he focused.
"You have any idea what those are?" Neral shook his head as he gave the beams of light a once over, Cole reckoned he was probably taking a second look and running some secondary calculations in that rotting cybernetic advanced intelligence Dog brain of his, or something along the line.
"I can't say for sure what they are Master but, apart from the middle pillar of light that's really massive, I can say from my previous scouting mission to the east and west Glades, that their beams of light are rising up out of their darkling nests. I find it strange though, I know for a fact that they cleared all the nests, and the last time I was here only the beam of light in the middle of the valley was obvious…..master I believe something has changed, we should investigate." Cole chuckled in response.
"Oh we will Neral, and I'm sure that at the end of this investigation….. there'll be something or someone dead at the end of my blade!"
