Chapter 189 - 189 Hubby, You’ve Worked Hard
189 Hubby, You’ve Worked Hard
Li Yanchen looked at Lin Wan gratefully. “After Xuanxuan and the others see him, I’ll arrange for him to be transferred to Yun City.”
After leaving the hospital, Li Yanchen felt much more relaxed. He and Lin Wan took a short break on a nearby path before they went to the Chenxin branch together.
The Chenxin office of country H had its own industrial park. After scanning through the infrared recognition system, Li Yanchen drove his car directly into the underground parking lot.
Knowing that the boss was coming, the company’s person-in-charge had already informed the cafeteria to open up the special stove.
!!
Li Yanchen had a habit of checking the cafeteria and the warehouse every time he visited the Chenxin office in country H. The cafeteria and the warehouse were cleaner than other parts of the company because of his habit.
Unlike before, it was not Secretary Han who accompanied Mr. Li today. A beautiful lady was with him.
Manager Qian, who was welcoming the boss, stood at the entrance of the cafeteria with a professional fake smile. It was almost two in the afternoon when the cafeteria returned to silence.
Li Yanchen was wearing a pair of white-rimmed glasses and a dark purple t-shirt. He was holding a briefcase in one hand while his other hand was interlocked with the arms of a beautiful stranger.
“Hello, Mr. Li. This must be Madam. Hello!”
Although Manager Qian didn’t watch the news much, he had heard a lot about the new Madam from Secretary Han.
“This is Manager Qian, the person in charge of this branch.” Li Yanchen introduced him to Lin Wan.
“Hello,” greeted Lin Wan.
“The food is ready. You can have your meal first.”
“Manager Qian, you can go and do what you need to do. I will take Lin Wan around for a tour.”
“Of course,” he said and left.
Manager Qian stole a few glances at Lin Wan before he left. There was no lack of beautiful women in country H. To him, they all looked the same. However, Lin Wan’s beauty was different. She looked very agile, but her facial features made her look very assertive.
Manager Qian sighed. It was no wonder his boss doted on her. Sensing Manager Qian’s gaze on her, Lin Wan turned her head away in embarrassment.
Li Yanchen sat down in the small room.
The logistics team had prepared two dishes and a soup. Li Yanchen had informed the kitchen to make the dishes after he had checked into the hotel. They were Lin Wan’s favorite
“Mr. Li, is this Madam?” The helper filled a bowl with rice.
“Yes. This is my wife, Lin Wan,” introduced Li Yanchen. “Wanwan, this is Auntie Zhou, the person in charge of the cafeteria.”
“Hello, Auntie.” Lin Wan smiled brightly. She was trying to smile a lot because she wanted to appear friendly and approachable. But she felt as though her face was frozen with pain from smiling too much.
Lin Wan wanted to slip away. It was not easy being Big Shot’s wife. The need to keep a good appearance and interpersonal relationships alone was troublesome and tiring.
“Secretary Han told us about you and showed us your photos. You’re even more beautiful in person.” Auntie praised Lin Wan.
“Mr. Li, I haven’t seen you for almost half a month. I feel like you have gotten younger. You should smile more. You look different when you are in a good mood.,” said Auntie Zhou.
“Um, Auntie, do you have water? I’m a little thirsty.” Lin Wan awkwardly attempted to change the topic of conversation.
‘Why did these superficial words always sound the same everywhere?’
After a quick meal, Li Yanchen dragged Lin Wan around on a tour of the company. Everywhere she went, she attracted the attention of some employees. Lin Wan didn’t even feel like marveling at how big and grand Chenxin was. She just wanted to hurry back to the hotel.
In the evening, Lin Wan stayed in Li Yanchen’s office while he went for a meeting. It was already dark when they left the company.
“How do you feel?” asked Li Yanchen.
“Now I understand how hard celebrities have it in parties and gatherings.” Lin Wan sighed.
“The gatherings are just a way to pass the time for the upper-class. The parties are rarely entertaining. Most of them are just for making more connections so that it’s convenient for business dealings. I don’t like going to those parties,” said Li Yanchen. Other than the most important gatherings, and the office, Li Yanchen hated going to any sort of gatherings.
Lin Wan pitied him. “It must be tiring to attend gatherings and parties to keep the company afloat. Hubby, you’ve worked hard.”
He caressed her face. “Sit tight. We will go back to the hotel and then take Xuanxuan and the children to the hospital. A storm is yet to come. We will need all our energy.”
“Let’s go,” she said.
In the hotel, Li Zekai almost fell asleep waiting for his father. The little boy lay on the carpet.
“When is daddy coming back? The amusement park won’t close, right?” he said.
Zheng Gong had accompanied Li Zekai to play games the entire afternoon. He was completely exhausted. He also laid down on the carpet. If he had known that taking care of children was this difficult, he would’ve just volunteered to work overtime at the office.
After receiving a call from his boss, Zheng Gong got up and prepared to go downstairs.
Li Zexin sat by the window and looked into the distance. When he heard that his father was coming back, he jumped down. He washed his face and got ready.
Li Zexuan, who had slept the entire afternoon, got up slowly. He knew that his father was going to tell his younger brothers the truth. He didn’t want to go anywhere. He didn’t want to face the inevitable.
After Zheng Gong urged him a few times, Li Zexuan washed his face and went downstairs with his younger brothers.
Li Yanchen’s car was parked at the entrance of the hotel. He opened the car door when he saw the children walking toward him.
“Mr. Li, if there is nothing more, I will get going,” said Zheng Gong.
“Thank you. You’ve worked hard.”
The three children got into the car.
Li Yanchen took a deep breath. “I am going to take you somewhere first.”
“Is it the amusement park?” asked Li Zekai, excitedly. “Look, daddy! I am wearing a flashing bracelet. It glows in the dark!” He waved his fluorescent bracelet around.
Li Zexin rubbed his hands, looking forward to it. Li Zexuan, who had been silent the entire day, finally spoke. “Are you taking us to the place where mom used to live?”
“No, we’re going to the hospital.”
“Dad, why do we need to go to the hospital? Are you sick?” Li Zekai asked in confusion.
“I want to take you to see someone. He is very sick so be a little quiet, okay?”
“Who is it?” Li Zexin leaned forward.
Li Yanchen pursed his lips. “You will find out later.”
...
At the hospital, the nurse changed Li Yanshi’s clothes. He waited for Li Yanchen to arrive.
Li Yanchen parked the car at the hospital and took a deep breath. Lin Wan tugged at his hand and held it between hers.
The hospital was eerily quiet at night. Before they even got close, they could already smell the bitter odor of disinfectant and medicine.
Li Zexuan’s head felt heavy. He was afraid of this place, even if it wasn’t the hospital he had stayed in before. Seven years ago, he had woken up in a ward, and his parents were no longer by his side.
Instinctively, he grabbed his brothers’ hands on each side.
“Big brother, it hurts!” Li Zekai pulled his hand away.
“Big brother, what’s wrong with you today?” Li Zexin also pulled his hand away from him.
Li Yanchen patted his eldest son on the shoulder. “Don’t worry. We can do this together.”
He pushed open the door. The nurse greeted him warmly and stood to the side. The three children were a little nervous when they saw a figure lying motionless on the bed. They hid behind their father.
