Chapter 69- A Problem
69 Chapter 69- A Problem Nôv(el)B\\jnn
If you wanted to enter the city, you have to go on foot. Carriages aren't allowed beyond this point.
"Alright you all, spill out 5 bronze profound stones each," the driver said in a rasp voice and started collecting fares from the passenger.
Yang Chen looked at the passenger in front of him who took out five beige coloured stones the size of a small marble from their pockets and hand it to the driver. Those were the lowest grade profound stones that were the currency of this world.
"5 bronze profound stones, hurry up" The driver extended his hands in front of Yang Chen. The latter didn't even have a single profound stone on him so there was no way he could pay the other party.
In other cases, if a passenger hitched a ride and refused to pay, there would be a loud commotion which might result in a fight breaking out or getting detained by the local authorities of the city.
However, Yang Chen had a solution prepared before he got on the ride. He looked at the eyes of the driver and said "I already gave it to you".
At that instant, his jet black eyes glowed a bizarre purple for a second.
"Huh? What are you talking about, when did I receive your money…" The driver was just about to get cranky and flare up at Yang Chen's words when his eyes met the latter's.
Weirdly enough, the man became calm and sluggishly nodded his head saying "Yeah I received it".
The driver then proceeded towards his carriage without bothering about Yang Chen.
.
.
Near the gate of the city—
"Show your identity. If you do not have any, it will cost you a penalty of 10 bronze profound stones" A soldier stopped every passing person and checked their identity. Those that didn't have any identity with them or lost it, had to pay ten of those beige coloured stones.
When it was his turn, Yang Chen employed the same method as before and easily passed through the checkpoint and entered the city.
Currently, Yang Chen had a black robe and a hood on so as to not attract the attention of the Zhang clan as he made his way through the crowd of people.
It was time of the afternoon and the street was lively with people going on with their daily activities.
13:54
"If I remember correctly, I'm at the south gate which means that the eastern district is over there" Yang Chen recalled his memories and slowly started walking and mixing with the crowd.
The Cloud City wasn't very big so it didn't take much time for him to reach the eastern district.
"What is going on here?" When Yang Chen arrived at hisdestination, he was surprised to see, people, pedlars, merchants, and hunters crowding the streets. The place was so crowded that it was hard to even walk without stopping from time to time.
"Excuse me mister, what is going on over here, why is there such a crowd in the eastern district?" Yang Chen asked a random person nearest to him.
The person, a middle aged man with no special features to talk about whatsoever, gave him a sideway glance over before explaining.
"You must be new to this town. It is natural for there to be a crowd today because today is the Bazaar that sits on the eastern district on the first day of every month".
After hearing the man, Yang Chen immediately recalled some memories of this so called Bazaar.
The Bazaar that sat in the eastern district of the cloud city was a special event that was jointly organised by the three most influential clans of this city. Namely the Zhang clan, the Xiao clan and the Lin clan.
It was a well known event that also attracts the attention of people from other cities. The speciality of this Bazaar is that on this very day, the three influential clans and the businesses they own, sell the wares they have collected over the month at a discounted price.
Of course, it doesn't mean that one could expect to find a treasure among the heaps of items they sold, if there was any, there was no way they would take it out for sale.
That being said, one could still find some decent items here and for the average masses of this city, even the items that influential clans deemed ordinary or have no use for, can be considered a valuable item for them.
Additionally, in this Bazaar apart from the businesses of the three clans, there were also the pedlars, merchants and hunters coming from different cities and setting up their shops using this opportunity.
Sometimes, if you are truly lucky you might find some rare item that has gone unnoticed by the eyes of the other people. However, the possibility of something like that happening was immensely low.
Besides, to find a rare item, you got to have extensive knowledge and understanding about them. And even then it will still depend on you luck.
Yang Chen didn't consider himself to be knowledgeable about the items of this world hence the possibility of him finding any treasures in this heap of junk, was near zero.
In any case, he wasn't here to search for treasures, but to sell the corpses of demonic beasts for some money. As such, Yang Chen roamed around the bazaar for a while, and found stalls of hunters selling the parts of demonic beasts. This was another way of selling the carcasses of the demonic beast that had many uses. From its meat to its loin, everything was sellable. However, it was a lot of work. He would rather sell it in an auction house than to set up his own stall and sell them part by part.
Yang Chen walked past these stalls and arrived in front of the auction houses. However, the moment he arrived there, he spotted a problem.
There were guards in front of these auction houses and they carried the badge that read Zhang clan in big bold letters stitched to their clothes.
