Chapter 94: Chen Shu’s Pleading (2)

Chapter 94: Chen Shu’s Pleading (2)

“What did the doctor say?”

Chen Shu almost drowned in endless guilt. If it wasn’t for Ye Sui trying to save him at the last minute, the situation wouldn’t have been so dire.

If he hadn’t been distracted when Ye Sui was confessing to him, Ye Sui wouldn’t have become like this.

Chen Shu struggled, saying, “The doctor is trying his best. It depends on the circumstances.”

After a second, Chen Shu spoke again, “Sorry, I didn’t protect Ye Sui.”

Yan Lan’s tears fell, and she shook her head. “Don’t blame yourself. I know you have done a good job.” Yan Lan had noticed the wound on Chen Shu’s head.

She knew that Chen Shu was injured. Despite his own condition, he was still here. She patted Chen Shu’s hand. “Don’t push yourself. Go rest first. I’ll wait here.”

Chen Shu didn’t agree. He shook his head and spoke firmly, “I’m going to wait here for Ye Sui to come out. I’m sure she’ll be fine.”

The lights were still on in the operating room, and the operation was not over.

Quite a few people waited outside the operating room, all of them hoping that the surgery would go well and Ye Sui would recover and be safe and sound.

At last, Ye Sui was pushed out of the operating room in a bed. Seeing her pale, bloodless face, Chen Shu’s breathing stagnated. The pain in his entire body couldn’t compare to the heartache that was spreading right now.

Ye Sui was pushed in the direction of the ward, and Chen Shu followed her closely. In the silent night, the clock hanging on the wall struck twelve.

Today was Chen Shu’s 30th birthday.

Ye Sui, lying on the hospital bed now, had helped him survive that fateful death.

The doctor said that Ye Sui’s operation was very successful, but she had to remain under observation for a few days. If she couldn’t wake up, she might become a vegetable, or even...

Chen Shu was a man of few words and emotions. But his friends saw him out of control for the first time.

On the first day of Chen Shu’s thirties, Ye Sui did not wake up.

He didn’t eat or sleep. He held Ye Sui’s hand and sat blankly beside the hospital bed without saying a word.

The day after Chen Shu turned thirty, Ye Sui still did not wake up.

Many people persuaded him, but he refused to listen. Under the insistence of Ye Sui’s mother, Chen Shu finally ate something. Afterward, he continued to sit by the hospital bed, guarding Ye Sui.

During the few days that Ye Sui was unconscious, Chen Shu’s state became very trance-like.

On the third day of Chen Shu’s thirties, Ye Sui still did not wake up.

Ye Sui was in hazy darkness, and it was pitch black around her. Even when she opened her eyes, the night-like blackness covered her vision.

She seemed to have had a very long dream in which she went back to her previous life.

Without any parents or relatives, she was all alone, and there was nothing there for her to miss.

In the darkness, a familiar voice suddenly broke through the night. It was faintly cold, like a crisp, clean wind.

“Ye Sui, can you hear my voice?”

Who was calling her?

“Ye Sui, it’s already the third day. Why haven’t you woken up yet?”

Ye Sui felt a tear fall on the back of her hand. In contrast to her cold hand, the tears were warm.

Was Chen Shu waiting for her?

Chen Shu’s voice was a little choked. He bent down and shivered involuntarily.

“Ye Sui, I remembered what you said that night.”

“When we were drunk, you said you liked me, and I also answered you. But because of our drunkenness, we didn’t remember.”

“I’m the one who didn’t remember it fast enough. So if you don’t recall it, I’ll tell you a few more times, okay?”

Chen Shu took Ye Sui’s hand. Her white and slender fingers bent involuntarily. He stretched his fingers between hers, and the two hands interlocked.

“I like you too.”

“Ye Sui, I like you the most.”

“You are my most important person.”

Little by little, he told her how much he loved her and how he couldn’t live without her.

“Open your eyes. I’ll always be there for you.”

Chen Shu’s voice weakened as if pleading. He gripped Ye Sui’s hand, his tall body bent over the edge of the hospital bed, and he begged.

“Will you wake up?”

Ye Sui wanted to open her eyes and look at Chen Shu’s face, but her eyelids were as heavy as mountains. She couldn’t lift them. She wished to reach out and touch Chen Shu to make sure he was safe and sound.

But something seemed to be pulling Ye Sui and forcing her into the dark abyss. She tried her best to stretch her hands but only managed to move her fingers gently.

Ye Sui felt so tired, but she still tried to open her mouth to answer Chen Shu.

‘Chen Shu, you know what?’

‘The person I like most in the world is you, too.’
