Chapter - 47
"It's what we call 'Over the top-hyper imaginative-boredom' syndrome," Rachel told Alex, "It's quite new in the market."
"Is that so? Imaginative- boredom syndrome. New in the market," Alex seriously nodded to everything Rachel said before he was struck by a realization. He looked at Rachel with confusion.
When Rachel saw Alex looking at her, she could not stop herself from bursting into laughter. Alex didn't need to be Einstein to figure out that Rachel was messing around with him. Rachel left her chair and walked in front of Alex. Dressed in a red one-piece dress barely up to her knees and black high-heeled shoes, Rachel sat on the desk, crossing her legs. Her white, fair, smooth legs were slightly rubbing with his. If not for the white coat above her dress, anyone who saw her would believe it was party time.
Alex gulped, looking at those smooth legs and with great determination averted his eyes from her legs and looked at her straight in the eyes. This was also one change Alex has experienced in himself over the past few weeks. He was getting excited with a mere glance of a beautiful woman.
These small actions of Alex did not slip past Rachel's eyes. She smiled when Alex looked at her and continued, "Alex, my dear Alex. There is nothing wrong with you. This is well within what we expected," Rachel said as she dusted off some dirt over his shoulder, "You might not remember those memories of yours buried deep down in your conscious, but your brain and your body do. And from time to time, they reach out to those memories."
"So you are saying everything is normal? No circuit of my brain is getting tingly?" Alex asked.
Rachel was amused by the analogy Alex was trying to draw, "I would say from time to time you might experience cross-connection. Until you revive those buried memories of yours, they will be walking dead, infecting your mood," Rachel said, trying to match up to Alex, "You might experience extreme mood swings. You might do things on a whim, just like you told me earlier. This will last until your memories merge together and you kind of recognise yourself," Rachel tried to explain.
"So you are saying everything is normal with me, up to a certain extent?" Alex asked.
"Yes," Rachel nodded.
"I should not be concerned about a thing?" Alex asked.
"Well, you might end up doing something you might regret later. You might even end up in prison, but those around you will understand," Rachel said, getting down the table.
"That's not assuring at all," Alex said as he watched her walk back to her seat.
"Don't fret over it. You will soon get used to it,"
"Which part? The mood swings or the prison?" Alex asked, wanting to confirm, but all he got in return was a smile.
"Anyways, what I am curious about is the cause of your mood swings," Rachel said, diverting from the topic.
"Didn't we talk about it just now? You don't think I am pregnant, do you?" Alex said, joking.
"Well, I guess you can't be pregnant," Rachel said, looking at Alex, but then her gaze moved downwards to Alex's crotch, "But I can always be wrong."
Seein Rachel looking down his crotch, Alex used his hands to cover it up and hinder her sight. Like Margaret, he can't be cheeky with Rachel.
"But what I am talking about is your environment," Rachel averted her gaze from his crotch and said, looking at Alex, "Your colleagues, your neighbours, and all those you come in contact with. Is there a change in your circle?" Rachel asked.
Hearing Rachel, Alex's thoughts quickly drifted to those around him other than Martha and George. Margaret was always there. She has been around him for about a year now. They didn't interact at all for the first couple of months after Alex moved in with the Rutherfords, but they knew about the presence of each other. They began with greetings, and soon they were chatting with each other whenever they got the chance. Alex would also hear about the rumours circulating in the locality about Margaret, and that's what had him concerned and somewhat jealous. The man that was usually beside Margaret was also a thorn in his eyes. Alex, to some extent, knew that they were not romantically involved, and the man was more like an assistant, but he could not get over this jealousy. And because of that jealousy, he ended up spouting a bunch of nonsense in front of Margaret a few days back, and they have not seen each other after that.
On the other hand, there is also Karen, who is a lot on his mind. From the day they have met, Alex sort of revered her in some way or the other, and they had this healthy relationship with one another which was envied by others. But Alex almost ruined it with his scandalous and prison worthy peck on her cheek. After that, although unintentionally, he did sexually harass her in front of all the others in the PR department. He did avoid her wrath after that all department meeting but he was walking on the glass around her for now.
Other than them, there are also other beautiful ladies teasing and testing his determination at every point in time. Suddenly his life has a lot to offer than he can handle.
While Alex was lost in thoughts, Rachel keenly noticed every change in his expressions and jolted down her observations. She was not going to interrupt him, nor was she going to ask him anything more today. It will just confuse him the more he let out in one go.
Alex was suddenly brought back to reality by the knock on the door. It was the receptionist checking with Rachel. He realised that he had been spacing out for a while now. He took a lot of Rachel's time, and the patients outside were getting restless.
"I think I should leave now," Alex said, leaving his chair.
Rachel didn't stop him, "You can always stop by here or even visit me home if you feel like talking," Rachel said as she walked Alex to the door.
"I will. I have your number as well," Alex said and nodding at her, Alex walked out of the door.
After Alex walked away, Rachel grabbed her phone, 'Sorry, Alex, but I need to tell this to Martha.'
With that, Rachel called Martha and told her everything she talked about with Alex, violating her Doctor-patient confidentiality.
After the call ended, Rachel picked up the receiver of her intercom and asked the receptionist to send in the next patient.
