Chapter 233 - Stuck In The Mud (3)
When the moon started to rise up and sky spilling hues of purple and pink, shadows started to lurk in the darkness.
In the middle of the forest, only thw sounds of leaves rustling and insects murmuring like symphonic band, trying its best to give an eerie music background to whoever dares to go up the mountains, hoping it would deter them and let them rethink their decision to come up and destroy the concert.
Walking straight ahead with a light torch in his hand, Yu Fangzhu slowly and cautiously trudged against the cold, grassy ground. Everywhere he passed by was a tree looming over his height and every single tome, he wished he could brandish his sword and cut it doen every time it would move.
He wasn't scare of being ambushed. At least, he could protect himself since he was trained in the military for five years before his father appointed him to help him with court matters. But people would always be afraid of something that wasn't meant to exist. Ghosts and demons for example.
Because he had thought of Xiaofei turning into an evil spirit hunting him this early morning, it added up to his fear, choking him up and making him think that it was a baf idea to go there.
Thankfully, his men wasn't far from him.. Despite warning him to go alone, Yu Fangzhu didn't want to risk his life by going alone and bravely meet the person who wrote him the note alone. In any case, the person might not notice the guard he brought with him since they masterfully hid themselves with the help of the darkness.
After walking for a while, Yu Fangzhu finally reached the waterfall that would lead him to the cave.
Glistening under the moonlight, the water falling from a high place created a a beautiful scenery in spite of what was going to happen that night. Behind that pressure of water falling down was the cave where his mother and her lover used to hide their relationship.
It was the perfect hiding place. No one would ever think that a cave was behind that waterfall and even if a unit of soldiers consisting of a hundred soldiers armed from the head to their toes were to search through the entire forest, they would never think of going behind the waterfall.
Yu Fangzhu looked to his right then, to his left. He used his eyes to scan around the area. The expert guards that he employed secretly were taking their position and awaiting contact with whoever called him out there. They would immediately shoot at anyone if they got the signal from him.
Not far from where they are and standing atop the bough of a tree, two figures were huddled together, trying to be one with the shadows of the night.
"There are a few men hiding rom not far away from the prince." The low and deep voice of a man whispered to the person next to him. His voice contained a controlled sardonic tone.
The person next to him stretched out her neck and tried to get a better look of the spot where the prince was standing. And just when her eyes could land on the prince's body, her eyes were covered.
Lin Xiaofei wanted to swat his hand off her eyes. She knew the man didn't want her to see the prince but she didn't come here to gawk like a senseless cavewoman who never saw a man, she came there to see what would Yu Fangzhu do. Would he bravely come to that place alone and face her or will he bring him an army to finish the person who sent him the letter.
Honestly, Lin Xiaofei had some hopes that he would pick the former. It has been a while since she saw what he was capable of and wanted to know if a miracle turned him a little smarter without her guiding him.
Sadly, the man proved her wrong once again. Yu Fangzhu came there like a coward, bringing with him an army to swoop out his enemies while she originally planned to meet him alone.
"Well? What do you think? Should we proceed to what we have planned for him?" Qu Xing Xu asked, not taking his hand off her eyes. The tickling sensation whenever her eyelashes moved along with her eyes put a dent on his steel armored heart.
"Honestly, I've never done something like this." He suddenly remarked, making her turned her head aside. Her one eye avoided his hand covering her eyes and met his eyes.
"What are you talking about?" She frowned.
"Lurking around, hiding when the prey is just right around the corner." He casually explained. "I've never done this."
"And what do you usually do?" Lin Xiaofei became intrigued by his method of capturing his prey.
"The simplest way to deal with your enemy. Kill before you get killed." He shrugged as if he was talking about the weather.
Lin Xiaofei wasn't surprised with his answer. On the contrary, she was already expecting this answer from him since Qu Xing Xu have the ability to do this to his enemies. But she wasn't him. She had little to no method and resources to deal with her enemies. What was the closest and easiest to deal with them within her capabilities, that's the only way for her to finish them.
And not only that, she also had to choose carefully whether this kind of retribution was worthy of their crimes.
While she was thinking, she felt an arm snaking around her waist down to her legs. She looked up at him and saw that his head turned to the side, not looking at her clearly, but quite attentive enough to make a move on her.
She felt his hand slowly lifting her skirt and Lin Xiaofei almost turned into a goo of bundles of her nerves. The experience and memories last night and this morning was still fresh to her. And with his hand doing this to her right now wasn't helping her focus.
Willing herself to stop his roaming hand, Lin Xiaofei pinched the side of his stomach. It might be just a tickle for him but he got the signal from her and he reluctantly stopped his perverted hand.
"If I knew I would be deprived of what I should be eating tonight, I wouldn't have agreed to come here with you." Qu Xing Xu said, sighing.
Lin Xiaofei rolled her eyes at him. Banishing the sensation of wanting him to kiss her all over in the back of her mind. Later. I'll do that, later. She told herself.
"Nobody told you to come. It was supposed to be Gu Yan originally. You just became his substitute because he wasn't feeling well." She took a pause and glared at him accusingly, "Actually, I'm having my suspicions that what happened to him was your doing."
Qu Xing Xu gave her no comment. But his eyes was wickedly smiling and confirming her thoughts of how Gu Yan suddenly wasn't up for the task.
"They're moving." Qu Xing Xu told her, changing the topic masterfully.
Up ahead, Yu Fangzhu walked towards the waterfall. His actions told them that he was trying to get closer to the cave.
