Chapter 172 - Bait(2)
"I think we can work out our own form of normal," Alyssa told him. She didn't want to banish him from her life.
She believed that maybe they could coexist again. They could have dinner together, watch movies, and be friends. Or more. The potential was there.
Elias seemed to visibly brighten up at that.
"Yeah, I'd like that," he told her.
Alyssa held his gaze for a few minutes, smiling at him.
"So, are we doing this plan or what?" she asked him, wanting to confirm that he was onboard.
They had to set up a time and a place, and she wanted to do this soon. The sooner that she could get this over with, the better that she would feel.
Elias took in a deep breath before finally nodding.
"There's a park about three miles from here. We can do it there whenever you're ready to," he told her, giving in.
Alyssa would've jumped for joy if she wasn't agreeing to a possible sacrifice. She was glad that he was going to help her, though.
She would need all the help that she could get to pull this off as safely and effectively as she could.
Hopefully, she didn't get hurt in the process, but there were no guarantees when it came to a plan that was this risky.
"As soon as possible," she replied. She wanted to get it over with. Plus, she had a feeling that her attacker was going to strike again soon.
"How about tomorrow night then?" Elias asked her. He still seemed wary, but he was also determined. He wouldn't let them fail. Too much was at stake.
"Perfect," Alyssa said with a nod. She felt her heart start to race when she realized what she was actually doing.
She was giving herself up to her attacker for a few seconds. Those seconds would feel like the longest seconds ever until Elias saved her. She hoped that those few seconds would count for something.
Elias moved closer to her until their legs touched.
"You're really brave," he told her.
Alyssa gave him a grateful look. It meant a lot hearing that from him. She wanted to be brave. She hoped that she could still be brave when the time came to put the plan in action.
She knew that she would be scared, but she knew that she could be scared and brave at the same time. She just had to put one foot in front of the other and pay attention to her surroundings.
"So are you. This could be dangerous for you too," she pointed out. He would be fighting the vampire, which could lead to injuries or maybe even something worse if he wasn't careful.
Elias shrugged.
"I'd do anything for you," he told her.
Alyssa felt a warm feeling bloom through her. She had heard him say that to her before, but it still struck her deep.
She knew that he meant it. Every decision that he made was one that kept her safety in mind. No other person looked out for her like that.
"I know. You might be a bit foolish for that," she lightly teased him with a playful smile. She didn't want him putting himself in bad situations for her, but she knew that she couldn't stop him. He was one of the most determined people that she had ever come to know.
"Worth it," Elias replied with a cheeky smile.
"I hope so," Alyssa said as her face softened slightly. She gripped his hands tighter. She was worried about him.
She didn't want anything bad to happen to him because she didn't know what she would do if she lost him.
She already had once, and it nearly destroyed her. Another time would certainly do the trick.
Elias reached up and brushed a strand of her hair behind her ear.
"What can I say? You drive me mad," he murmured as his eyes searched hers.
Alyssa's heart was pounding so loudly that she could hear it in her head. She could feel her nerves ringing, but she pushed past the feeling, focusing on his smile and his touch.
She was right where she wanted to be, but she was still too scared to move. Why did she still have to be so scared?
"Mad enough to risk everything for me," Alyssa breathed out.
"And I'd do it again and again," Elias said, holding her gaze for a few tense moments before smiling.
He leaned forward and brushed his lips against her cheek before pulling back. "But let's not put you in danger all the time."
Alyssa laughed weakly as she nodded. She could feel her cheek tingling from where his lips had been at.
She wished that he had kissed her properly because she didn't have the courage to do it herself.
She felt like she was trying to conjure up the courage to enact their first kiss, even if it would be closer to the hundredth.
"Agreed," she said.
Elias patted her thigh before standing up from the couch.
"I'm gonna take a shower. Want to order dinner when I get out? We can go over the plan some more," he suggested.
Alyssa nodded again, hardly able to say a single word to him because she was still reeling over the kiss.
"Sounds good," she managed to say. She hardly processed his words, but she knew that he said something about food.
They ordered food a lot, so she figured that he said something about that.
"Good," Elias quipped, shooting her a wink before heading off to the master bathroom.
Alyssa watched him go, feeling the desire to follow him, but she stopped herself. She didn't need to be making any rash decisions now.
She was already making a crazy decision by giving herself up as bait.
Now, she had to wait and see how that turned out. She was either going to get her life back, or she was going to get an early funeral.
