Chapter 472
472 Family feud
Like the opening of the gates of Valhalla, a bright light shone as the shield on the healing capsule opened. Zi Han reached over with his trembling hands his eyes stinging on the verge of tears. “Pa,” he whispered as a lone tear flowed down his cheek like a weeping maiden. His emotions were clearly written on his face and could easily stir others.
Zi Han lightly tapped the man’s shoulder and whispered in a heartbreaking tone, “Pa.”
But his Pa didn’t answer. He looked like he was completely out of it. “Pa.... dad... dad,” he called out again this time his tone much more urgent than before but the person remained still like he was devoid of life.
Zi Han clenched his fingers preventing himself from shaking his father a little too hard trying to wake him up. The veins on his hand became even more prominent as he clenched tightly.
He took a step back telling himself that his father was going to be okay over and over again.
The still air was suddenly disturbed as the ground and walls shook. Zi Han glanced at the wall and knew that something bad was about to happen. He took out another pendant and tossed it at his father.
A mech suddenly appeared and engulfed the man lying still in the healing capsule. This at least would protect his father for a while. The tremors became even more intense and as the cracks appeared on the wall Zi Han summoned Igneous and a fist drove through the wall and struck a mech that was destroying yhe temple from the outside.
With a powerful uppercut, the mech was struck and it fell backwards onto the open space of the town square. Igneous emerged from the cloud of dust like a mighty deity ready to deliver punishment to the wicked.
A bright red laser shot through the cloud of dust but Igneous moved to the side dodging it seamlessly. The laser struck the crumbling wall further destroying the beautiful temple.
.....
“Hua, protect him at any cost,” he said and the mech that was engulfing his father shot out from the temple and flew out into the dark sky like a shooting star.
“Babe, you better get out of that temple now,” he said and Yi Chen who was running through the collapsing temple pillars replied,
“I am leaving now. I am more worried about you.”
Zi Han activated the sword and a graceful sharp long sword appeared in Igneous hand. “I will let you know if I need help. Let’s try to limit casualties shall we,” he said trying not to overthink the emotions in his heart. He was afraid that his two important people would be hurt and he wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.
He refused to use the explosive weapons in his possession because he was afraid to hurt the innocent people in this god-forsaken place. He didn’t have anything against the citizens of the Republic. In fact, he felt some kind of responsibility towards them.
These were the offspring of the people his ancestors saved from old earth but because of the selfishness of some people, they couldn’t enjoy the bliss of becoming a part of the federation’s prosperity.
Their ancestors were forced to endure the hardship of the barren lands even when they didn’t have to.
Zi Han might have wanted to make sure no one outside this conflict would be affected but Yeoh Lang didn’t have such consideration. He was pretty heavy handed using heavy artillery but despite throwing all his cards on the table he couldn’t even touch Igneous.
But it was because of this that Zi Han couldn’t get close enough to his father’s old mech and take it down. A series of missiles were shot toward Igneous and Zi Han had to take up the task to shoot them down.
Zi Han engaged the anti missile flares which spread out like fireworks around Igneous. He then engaged the laser anti missile system and began to shoot them down.
The sky that was as dark as ink lit up like the firework display of the new years eve’s celebration at Sydney harbour, beautiful and dazzling.
Yi Chen who was evacuating the city looked up and his heart couldn’t help but be anxious. He wanted to go up there and help him but he also knew that Zi Han had to do this. This could very well be described as a family conflict that could only be dealt with by him. He could only be his backup when he needed him.
“Everybody, head to the south gate,” he yelled but these people were like ants scattering in all directions at the first sight of rain. Yi Chen couldn’t help but slap his forehead with a sigh. It was like leading preschool kids to the exit in a fire drill.
Yi Chen climbed up the platform and with a loud bang he shot a bullet into the sky instantly grabbing everyone’s attention. “South gate now!” he bellowed and the people looked at him blankly like a couple of meerkats.
BANG!
“NOW!!” he yelled again after firing another shot into the night sky.
The timid ones screamed while running in the direction of the south gate. Those who were responsible and sober enough began to lead the others in the direction of the south gate.
Yi Chen finally sighed with relief as he saw them rushing towards the south side of the city. He stepped down from the platform and suddenly heard his name being called.
“Brother Chen! Brother Chen!... Ah, brother... brother Chen,” called out Mi Mi while tugging her father along.
Yi Chen didn’t feel like this was a good place to chit chat thus his voice carried some traces of impatience.
“Head to the south gate,” he said and Mi Mi couldn’t help but pull the corner of the sleeve of his cloak.
“Aren’t you coming?” she asked but Yi Chen pulled away his sleeve and said,
“Run now before it’s too late.”
