Only I Am A Reader

Chapter 165 - Leo’s Choice

"Next."

Arriving before the weapon rack himself, Leo's eyes shone as he instinctively picked a longsword, silently staring at it before his hand danced in the air!

Swish! Swoosh!

Slowly going down from the basics, Leo demonstrated his knowledge of the sword as this new body of his restored its muscle memory. At first, those who had yet to pick seemed impatient. However, almost everyone's eyes were now focused on his sword.

'Unbelievable…'

The battle instructor who had fought Leo on the first day stared at him with widened eyes. He just happened to be a sword user himself, and he was once again seeing the unexplainable. Unless he was someone that had changed his appearance using bone-shrinking arts, this child in front of him wasn't only a genius at battle, he was also a genius at wielding the sword!

'This is destiny!'

For him, who was the best sword user within this patch of battle instructors, Leo's appearance wasn't something that should have happened by mere chance! This was a heaven-sent opportunity!

Not only could he play a part in nurturing a future sword master, but he was also sure that he would mutually benefit from Leo's insights!

Thud.

However, before his imagination could go wild, Leo silently put down the sword on the rack. He didn't display everything he got so as not to appear far more abnormal than the impression he wanted to give. Most importantly, he knew his limits.

"This…"

Having drawn his weapon of choice and stood in front of 'Gentle Han', even the scheming instructor seemed perplexed by what he saw in Leo's hand. He couldn't help wondering if this child had something wrong with his head.

"I will take this spear."

Despite the fact that he didn't even try it out once, Leo was standing in front of 'Gentle Han' with a wooden spear. It didn't make sense to anyone who had watched the earlier display, but instructor Han's discerning eyes managed to catch another important detail.

'This is simply…'

This was the child's first time picking the spear just like he did with the sword, but his grip around it didn't seem to be awkward at all. Although this didn't tell much about his actual skill, it showed that he at least knew what he was doing…

'Too interesting.'

Instructor Han couldn't help entertaining the possibility that the kid in front of him might even be better with the spear than the sword. It… could be even possible that a weapon was merely a medium for him to show his skills! Geniuses who mastered everything they could get their hands on were too rare, but they existed!

'We will see…'

"Here you go."

Directly picking up a book from the pile between him and the guard, Instructor Han handed Leo a book before his eyes went back to what was left of the group.

"But Instructor-"

"Next."

The battle instructor at the side couldn't help protesting at what he just saw, but he quickly swallowed his words when 'Gentle Han' didn't even look him in the face. The rules still persisted, they couldn't influence someone's choice nor could they show favor to anyone in particular if not according to the curriculum itself.

Leo silently returned to the crowd with an extra book in hand as he watched Yeon move forward in anticipation. If he knew what Instructor Han had in mind, he would have accidentally broken out of laughter in a situation like this. This was a misconception that usually occurred to clueless protagonists!

'It would be a waste.'

Not picking the sword wasn't just something that he decided on to be as contradictory as 'Gentle Han', rather, he didn't want to waste the opportunity presented in the daily battle. He didn't just lack the reading material required to proceed further, the battle instructors also had nothing to add to his Swordsmanship.

In comparison, in addition to what he read on earth, a practical 'skill book' that he lacked the most when it came to every other weapon was right in front of him! With the assistance of an opponent who fought against him mercilessly, Leo believed that his journey with the spear would be smooth sailing as long as 'Skill Reading' triggered a few times!

Most importantly, learning the sword contradicted his plan to stand out. Although his earlier display had shown his worth, the possibility of exploiting that was limited by his achievement. Once he showed the peak of his skill, it wouldn't make sense to see him stuck this quick considering the dashing start.

On the other hand, the path of the spear not only gave him the range that the sword lacked, but its growth would also follow common sense. Leo naturally had no plans to give up on using the Swordsmanship that he polished in so many years, but increasing his choices seemed to be the proper way to make use of something like 'Skill Reading'!

Although the original Baekho would have picked a greatsword that he would struggle to use before eventually becoming a master at using it towards the end of the novel, Leo's way of doing things didn't have to coincide with the flow to begin with.

'This didn't change at least.'

Looking at Yeon who had already made her choice after trying out a few weapons, Leo smiled inwardly. Even with his influence, such a major event hadn't been affected. She still chose the slim one-edged blade known as the eastern blade, a weapon that looked quite similar to the katana.

"Some of you may have already made up your mind. However, just in case, today's choice can still be taken tomorrow. Take this chance to get to know your weapon better and don't hesitate to think of changing it if time proves your initial thoughts wrong…"

With every child holding a weapon in hand, Instructor Han left one last note as he turned to leave after quickly glancing at Leo.

"That will be all for today."

Naturally, this wasn't a chance that he had especially provided for Leo.. However, someone as meticulous as 'Gentle Han' never based anything on a guess. His noticeable glance was nothing but a slight warning for the remarkable child that might have bit more than he could chew…
