Novel's Extra: I Awakened The Strongest Physique From The Start

CHAPTER 59 - Loan.

In his past life, from the moment he was born, Alex was taught by life how depending on yourself makes you stronger.

But there are times when even the strongest has to bend his knee. Alex was the same; he, unable to live without money, once had to take a loan but was never able to pay it back because the loan sharks that gave him the loan increased the interest depending on their mood.

In the end, Alex was caught, beaten, and then forced to work for them. It was not until Alex killed them all that he got rid of that loan, but after that day, he never really took a loan. He only gave.

Since then, Alex has never relied on anyone. If he wanted money, he would kill. If he wanted food, he would kill. Kill. Kill. And kill. That was all he ever did.

To such a guy, if his girlfriend, the only one he has and the only one he loves, asks to take a loan from her, how would he feel?

Even if he were to ignore the past, Alex's ego wouldn't even let him take help from Sophie—unless it was absolutely necessary, much less take a loan.

Now what loan were they talking about?

[It's just some system points... what's there to think about? All you have to do is take 'n' number of points from me and then return 'n+n/10'.]

Sophie, listening to Alex sigh, questioned in worry and grievance. She had been trying to make him accept a loan from her (the system) and buy an inspection skill.

Alex needed a good inspection skill right now, after all. Only with that would he be able to avoid situations like the one with Kaira. If he had an inspection ability at that time, he would never have faced a situation like that. He would've known that she was a clone the moment he laid eyes on her.

She was just getting a bit frustrated that Alex wasn't even giving a reason why he didn't want to take the loan. Even last time, when he was facing Vestian, he had decided to lock one of his abilities, which was a losing deal when compared to taking a loan.

All he needed were 1000 points at that time, yet he locked an ability worth 500,000 points, only to get 250,000. If that was not enough. He had to return 500,000 points in order to unlock that skill, and there was no way to avoid it—more like he had to unlock the ability before he could even stock points for other use.

It was like he was taking a loan of 250,000 points and returning double—way higher than what he would have to by taking a loan.

Yet... Yet... he decided not to take a loan.

The problem here was that Sophie didn't know all about Alex's past, especially the part about his childhood. She knew everything about adult Alex, and the Alex she knew never faced a problem where he needed to loan money.

'Sophie...'

Hearing her words, Alex called out to her, and listening to his tone—one filled with an apology—Sophie paused.

'W-What's going on...?'

She couldn't understand why Alex would suddenly speak like that. What was it?

'Is there a way for you to be able to read my memories?' Alex continued, 'Keryu's system could do it, and you, being stronger, would of course have that kind of function as well, wouldn't you?'

Alex wanted Sophie to know about his childhood; he wanted her to know everything about him. She was a major part of his life now—she wasn't just a girlfriend to him anymore.

But still, instead of reciting everything, he wanted her to just read his memories.

Keryi Ivanovich, the transmigrated protagonist of this world, had a system as well, and as Sophie, his system, could look through that system, he was pretty sure that she was stronger than that system, so he assumed that she could do all those things that Keryu's system could.

[Yes, but unlike Keryu's system, I need your permission to do it.]n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

And as he had thought, Sophie really could do it. Yes, she needed his permission, but that wasn't because she was weaker than Keryu's system, which could directly access Keryu's memories, but because she loved Alex, and she would never be able to do something that she was sure Alex wouldn't like.

'Good, then I permit you to go through all of my childhood memories.' Alex spoke, nodding inwardly before he began walking again.

From people's perspective, he paused for just a second, but emotionally, Alex had paused for longer than he ever did.

He knew he was wrong. He was being selfish by not listening to Sophie's words and by not taking a loan from the system even though he knew that it was something he would profit from. Sophie was just worried about him, and he knew that, but still... his ego and principles made it hard for him to accept it.

If the system was not his the girl he loved, then maybe... just maybe he might've thought about it, but as it was right now, neither would his ego permit him to take a loan from her, nor would his principles.

"What took you so long, Mister?"

It was only when he heard a voice—one that he was pretty familiar with—that Alex broke out of his thoughts, turning to the source of the voice, only to find a girl with flowing silky hair reaching her waist, complementing the color of her eyes, amethyst in color, and flawless, breath-stealing beauty.

She was looking at him with a frown, pouting cutely with her arms folded below her breasts, making them look more pronounced than they already were; her feet, on the other hand, kept tapping the ground—a clear indication of her impatience.

"Haha, sorry for the delay, Lili—" Alex, looking at her being like that, didn't dodge the blame and just laughed apologetically, moving forward, but the moment he saw her gaze hardening, his face froze, and realizing something, he continued, "—Lia. I couldn't get a nice sleep yesterday."

It didn't even take him a millisecond to change his words, and the moment he saw a bright smile appearing on the girl's face, he knew that he had successfully dodged the problem.

'Phew... that was close,' he sighed in relief, smiling as he walked toward the girl. He was letting Sophie have some time, as he knew that she needed it. Going through the memories will take some time. So, he just turned his focus on the girl.

It was Lilia Morningstar, the eldest daughter of the demon lord, and just like him, she was a student council member as well—something clear from the black dress she was wearing. It was similar to the dress of the girl Alex had met on the way, just black-themed and with Student Council written on the back with golden runes.

She had asked him to call Lia when they were alone, and Alex, due to his memory lapses, forgets it every time he meets her. It just slips out of his head. But as he can't tell her about this problem, he tries not to do it again and again.

She was waiting for him in the corridor of the student council room, as she does every day.

"You having a problem sleeping? Come on, I know you can come up with better excuses..." Lilia, in response to his words, just shook her head with a scoff, not believing his words in the least, making Alex speechless.

'I really couldn't, alright?!' He wanted to say that to her, but he just shook his head, and like a knight asking for his queen's hand, he bent forward, extending his hand to her, and spoke, "Shall we?"

That action did make Lilia raise her brow in amusement, but with a giggle, she took his hand and answered, her tone prideful, "We shall."

Alex chuckled as well before they walked toward the student council room with Lilia's hand in Alex's, maintaining an air of nobility.

Lilia, looking at Alex's side profile, just smiled to herself, not knowing how long things were going to stay like this but knowing that she was going to enjoy them while they lasted.

Then, with a shake of her head, she focused on the path ahead and tried to maintain a serious face and not laugh out loud.

Soon, only the sound of their footsteps could be heard in the hallway.
