Chapter 238: Digging Well
Chapter 238: Digging Well
Since she had plenty of supplies, Yao Ran planned to simply buy a house later, which would save her from having to build one herself.
When Shi Xuan and the others heard this, they exchanged glances.
After a moment of silence, Shi Xuan nodded and said, "Alright. Then we will find the materials without you. If you decide to get materials later, you can just use other supplies to exchange with us."
What he suggested was exactly what Yao Ran wanted, so she agreed. "Alright."
Since Shi Xuan and the others still needed to discuss where to gather construction materials, Yao Ran left with Long Yu first.
Before she closed her door, Long Yu asked, "Are you planning to buy a house in the base later?"
Yao Ran nodded and replied, "Yes. Although building a house doesn't cost many supplies, the time and effort are too much. Since my space can grow food, we can just buy a house later."
"Besides, if we went with Shi Xuan and the others, we'd need to find a place to store the materials and put in the effort to guard them. If we ever really need to build a house, I have more than enough materials to build an entire community. It's just not worth it."
Long Yu thought it over and said, "Alright. I will listen to you."
The next day, Yao Ran woke up early. She looked at the alarm clock on her bedside table and saw that it was only seven in the morning. She then entered her space to take a bath and have a simple breakfast.
Due to the high temperatures affecting her appetite, Yao Ran only ate a bowl of sour and spicy cold noodles and drank a glass of orange juice.
After finishing breakfast, Yao Ran put on heat-resistant clothing over her constant- temperature and summer clothing. She applied sun cream to her exposed skin and face before leaving her space.
Yao Ran reappeared in her bedroom and then went to the planting room.
Although she no longer sent water to the military camp and had completed her deal with Yuan Rihui, she continued to practice daily, trying to save as much water, medicinal herbs, and food as she could.
Walking past the thermometer in the living room, Yao Ran glanced at it. To her surprise, the temperature had dropped to 88 degrees Celsius, lowered by 2 degrees Celsius overnight.
Before she could head to the planting room, she heard the sound of vehicles approaching from the outside. Feeling curious, she went to the balcony, opened the thick curtain blocking the sunlight slightly, and looked outside.
Since Yao Ran's abilities had advanced to the second and third levels, her five senses had also improved significantly. Now, she could see what was happening below without binoculars. Although not as clearly as with binoculars, it was enough to make out the scene down there. The military truck was parked in the open field at the center of the Ling Yuan apartment complex. Yao Ran saw soldiers disembarking, followed by people wearing uniforms under heat-resistant clothing.
Yao Ran watched for a moment before she found out that the military had sent people to dig wells in the Ling Yuan apartment complex.
Since soldiers are still patrolling the Ling Yuan apartment complex, the military needs to deliver food and water to them every day. After some discussion, they decided to dig a well right here to save fuel on transporting water. The army only needs to deliver food once a week, which can save a lot of fuel.
When survivors heard the sounds coming from outside, they went to the balcony one after another to see what was happening. As the well-digging workers began their work, many survivors gathered to watch.
Yao Ran also stood on her balcony, observing them as they worked under the intense sun. If not for the heat-resistant clothing, the soldiers and workers would likely have already suffered heat stroke or sun poisoning.
Seeing they were covered in sweat after only ten minutes of work, Yao Ran took ten bottles of mineral water from her space, packed them into a black plastic bag, put on a mask, carried an umbrella, and left her apartment.
After locking her door, she went to the refrigerator near the windows at the end of the corridor, took a few bowls of sweet mung bean soup, put them in the plastic bag, and headed downstairs.
As she walked down the stairs, Yao Ran saw that Grandma Quan and Grandpa Quan had also gone downstairs to watch the worker digging wells.
She smiled at the elderly couple and said, "Good morning, Grandma Quan, Grandpa Quan. Did you also come out to watch the well-digging?"
Grandma Quan nodded and asked her, "Are you coming out alone?"
"Yes. My friends are still sleeping, so I didn't wake them." Yao Ran replied, walking down the stairs alongside the elderly couple.
When they arrived at the ground floor, many people had already gathered at the building entrance.
Seeing Yao Ran coming, the residents of Building 3 moved aside to let her pass. Although she hadn't done anything to them directly, they still remembered how she'd killed without blinking an eye before.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
In the community, everyone knows that they can offend anyone, but not the people living on the 20th floor of Building 3.
Yao Ran glanced briefly at the thin, dirty residents before turning to Grandma Quan and said, "Grandma, I need to talk to the soldiers. You should stay indoors and avoid going out."
Knowing how dangerous the sunlight was, Grandma Quan agreed. "Alright."
After speaking with Grandma Quan, Yao Ran opened her black umbrella and approached the nearest soldier.
Seeing her coming holding an umbrella, the soldier said, "Comrade, it's dangerous to be outside. Please go back."
Yao Ran handed him the plastic bag and said, "Please share this with the others. It is very hot outside, and working in this weather isn't easy."
The soldier looked surprised, but he accepted the plastic bag and said, "Thank you,
Comrade."
