Chapter 188: You Shouldn’t Have Come
Chapter 188: You Shouldn’t Have Come
Yao Ran looked at the cages and saw a few adults sitting inside each of the large cages while several children were crammed into smaller ones. From the iron shackles around their necks, it was clear they were treated like animals.
When the man sitting in the closest iron cage to the door noticed them, his eyes widened, and his body trembled in fear.
Seeing this, Long Yu approached him and said in a low voice, "Please don't make a sound. We're here to find our friends."
Hearing this, the man nodded and tried to speak, but it had been a long time since he had eaten or drunk anything, so he didn't have the strength to talk.
Noticing this, Yao Ran opened her backpack. She reached inside, took out a thermos filled with warm water, opened the lid, and handed it to the man.
When the man saw the water, he greedily drank it. Because he drank too fast, he choked and started coughing violently.
"Cough, cough, cough!"
After he stopped coughing, the man continued drinking. When he finished the whole bottle, he handed the empty thermos back to Yao Ran and said in a hoarse voice, "Thank you."
Yao Ran didn't take the thermos back but refilled it with another bottle of mineral water. She also took three pieces of soft cakes and said, "You can keep it."
The man looked surprised for a second but quickly hid the thermos and the soft cakes inside his dirty clothes. He then looked at Long Yu and asked, "Can you help me get out of here?" Long Yu nodded and replied, "I can help you, but I need to find my friends first."
"Do you know when those people took your friend?" The man asked.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
"This morning." Long Yu answered.
Hearing his answer, the man pointed to the stairs and said, "The new prisoners are kept on the lowest floor to be trained. Maybe you can find your friends there."
Yao Ran noticed something from his words and asked, "Maybe?"
The man's eyes flickered with fear, and he swallowed nervously. His eyes darted around in panic as he tremblingly whispered, "Those people eat human flesh."
When Yao Ran and Long Yu heard this, they couldn't help but think of the frozen sausages and meat in the warehouse.
After a moment of silence, Yao Ran asked, "Do they freeze the meat after they kill the prisoners?"
The man shook his head. "No. I once overheard the guards talking. They said their leader only eats fresh meat. So whenever he wants to eat, he drags someone out. Most of the time, it's children or women. As for the guards and guests, most of them eat frozen meat they found before."
"What about the men?" Long Yu asked.
The man thought for a moment and replied, "The men were dragged away by guards and brought back several days later. But most who could come back alive seem to have lost their minds, or parts of their bodies are changed. I couldn't see clearly, but their bodies were always covered in black blood or some blue liquid."
When Yao Ran heard this, her face paled. She grabbed Long Yu's arm and tremblingly whispered, "They were used as experiment subjects."
Long Yu sensed the fear in her voice and gently took her trembling hands.
He hugged her closer while saying to the man, "We will go find our friends first and come back after we find them. Notify other prisoners and let them get ready if they want to leave with us. Make sure you don't make any noise. Otherwise, we won't come back."
The man nodded quickly and looked at Long Yu with hope in his eyes. "Alright."
Long Yu took out a military dagger, gave it to the man, and then left with Yao Ran.
Looking at their backs, the man held the thermos bottle and the military dagger tightly. This was the first time he had felt hope for the future since being imprisoned here.
While Long Yu and Yao Ran searched for Sima Hao and Ruan Ying, the waiter was pouring wine into the swimming pool. While he worked, he kept his eyes lowered.
When he was done, he silently loaded the empty wine barrel onto the cart and pushed it out. When he stepped out of the building, the guards stopped him.
The waiter looked at the guards and asked, "Sir, what can I do for you?"
One of the guards pointed at the empty wine barrel and asked, "Do you have more wine?"
The waiter nodded and smiled. "Sir, I saved the special mixed one for you."
When the guard heard this, he was pleased and patted the waiter on the shoulder. He took the wine and said, "Not bad."
The waiter smiled, "Sir, I still need to prepare more wine for the Boss."
Hearing this, the guard waved his hand and said, "Alright. You can go."
The waiter pushed the wine cart away, listening to the laughter of the guards. When he lowered his head, his eyes flickered with cruelty.
Finally! He finally had the chance to avenge his family!
Meanwhile, Long Yu and Yao Ran arrived on the lowest floor. Unlike the first floor, there were no iron cages here but several cells.
The two of them walked to the first cell and saw several women huddled together in the corner. When they heard footsteps, the women trembled and lowered their heads. Yao Ran glanced at them for a second before looking at the other cells.
They searched for a while before they found Sima Hao and Ruan Ying in the last prison cell.
Seeing that it was them who were coming, Sima Hao pushed himself up from the ground with difficulty and asked worriedly, "Brother Long, Miss Yao, why are you two here? You shouldn't have come."
Long Yu couldn't use his wind element ability in front of others, so Yao Ran drew her long sword and slashed at the metal lock. The moment her sword touched the lock, it cut through
smoothly.
