Chapter 160
The ingredients were very fresh, the shrimps were still twitching in the bag, a trail of bubbles could be seen from the fish in the water, and the corn silk had yet to be removed from the corn. Furthermore, the bottles of condiments were all new and unopened. Seeing the ingredients before him, Lu Lixing’s brows furrowed. He had a troubled look on his face.
Unlike the office’s conference rooms for negotiation, the kitchen was an area he had never set foot in before, let alone to cook. Even those condiments were ones he had only seen a few times previously.
He flipped through the pile of condiments. After familiarizing himself with them, he opened his tablet and scrolling for video tutorials for those recipes. Rolling up his sleeves, he started following the person in the video step by step.
First was the Shrimp with Sweetcorn. Using his hands, he started to peel the corn kernels piece by piece from the cob. After peeling for about 10 minutes, he only finished peeling less than half of it.
Lu Lixing’s expression face darkened, the corn kernels he peeled had been mostly crushed between his fingers.
Footsteps sounds echoed from the living room.
Ji Qingqing spotted Lu Lixing in the kitchen, bent over focused on the task of peeling corn. She exclaimed in surprise, “What are you doing?”
Lu Lixing raised his head and glanced at her. “Peeling corn.”
Ji Qingqing was in the room when she heard some noises. Assuming that the hotel staff had arrived with the dishes, she thought to herself, the hotel’s speed sure is fast, not even 30 minutes had passed and the dishes were already delivered. She washed up and stepped out of the door. However, not only was she unable to smell the scent of the food that she imagined, even Lu Lixing was nowhere to be seen.
She searched for a while before finally spotting Lu Lixing in the kitchen.
“I’m not asking what are you doing, I’m asking you, what in the world are you doing!”
Ji Qingqing ended up confusing herself. She looked at the corn kernels that were crushed by Lu Lixing. “…What I meant was, why are you peeling corn here.”
“I’m cooking for you, can’t you tell?”
Cooking for me?
Ji Qingqing became shocked.
Lu Lixing is cooking for her?
What kind of joke is this?
“Can’t the hotel prepare it?”
“The hotel’s kitchen equipment has some issues and they’re currently repairing it. Now, all of the hotel’s chefs are on leave, who’s going to cook for you?” Lu Lixing concentrated on peeling the corn while coming up with a flawless ‘answer’.
“They’re on leave?” Ji Qingqing immediately replied, “If that’s the case you can leave it, I’ll call for a take-away. This place isn’t too far from the filming location. Since the filming crew were able to order take-aways to this area, I’m sure we can call for one here too.”
Ji Qingqing then took out her phone, intending to call for a delivery.
Lu Lixing, a distinguished young master who has never dirtied his hands before is personally cooking for her?
Even if Lu Lixing was willing to do it, she wouldn’t dare to eat it.
Noticing that she was about to call for a delivery, Lu Lixing quickly put down the corn kernels in his hands and strode towards her. He took the phone from her ear. “You’ve only just recovered recently from your illness, you shouldn’t be eating food that is too greasy.”
“Then I’ll just order something light instead.”
“…The restaurants outside are dirty.”
“They’re clean, much of the filming crew ate from them and nothing happened.” Ji Qingqing defended.
Saying that, Ji Qingqing reached for her phone, intending to snatch it back from Lu Lixing’s hands.
Lu Lixing still did not let her have her way and raised the phone above his head, preventing Ji Qingqing from snatching it easily.
“The ingredients have all been delivered here, it’ll be a waste if we don’t cook.”
“But…”
“It’s more hygienic to make it personally. If you’re hungry you can have some fruits first, the food will be ready soon.”
The two of them refused to budge. They stood at the kitchen door, locked in a stalemate.
Eventually, after seeing Lu Lixing’s insistence, Ji Qingqing’s stomach decided to compromise first.
She gave in and nodded her head. “Alright then.”
