Chapter 176 - Blizzard
Chapter 176 – Blizzard
"Boss, I don't think this is good."
Five months later, after the midterm exam, situation had calmed down a bit. The exam put stresses on the students, even the smartest one. And that literally wiped the slate clean of his own doings.
For now, his academics attracted more attention that his heroic action. TMV also put a good use for him, giving him a position in the first-aid division. Basically, it was three months filled with doing nothing too attracting. He just spent his time with security division, student council, and TMV.
However, birds were starting to chirp lately. Or in other words, someone looked at the business dealing between Aveline and him. Of course, because of that, someone wanted who leaked that thing out, and who was the leaker and what was its goal? To make matters worse, it was the documentation that scared him.
He almost got his name leaked out, almost. Luckily, whoever took the picture on the highway didn't really get a glimpse on his face thanks to the concealment that he wore, but he was standing on a thin ice.
"What did you find?" Del asked as he searched through the security division office in the middle of another blizzard in midnight. This time, the blizzard was way way colder. The window almost froze thanks to the outside temperature.
As a matter of fact, Mira was wearing the modern cold weather gear instead of her personal cold weather clothing due to the temperature reaching below 70 degrees celcius. Yes, it was that cold in that office. Anna didn't participate, she didn't want to get involved in that due to the fact that she was in the SD and there was no confirmed leaker yet.
"Documentations and suspicions. And oh boy, you were on top of the list, but not Vampir."
"Goddamn it, how so?"
"Interrogations, apparently. Well, more like interview, to be honest. You want to get a brief on how the SD works, or do you want to figure it out by yourself?"
"Let's cut the chase. What do you know?"
"If the head of SD suspect someone inside of SD, he has the rights to question the said person. And in this case.."
"Yeah, her."
"Sorry, boss. I thought you knew this."
"I thought she got things under control and I thought these things are classified. Whoever did this might get its head on the chopping table if we don't intervene sooner or later."
"Still, the SD had their ears and eyes on you now. They only cared about your side dealings with Aveline, and not your weird-ass gadgets and shits, boss."
"Just give me the document. Let's see what I can read."
"Here you go," Mira gave her the document.
The document was telling the current investigation on Aveline. Yeah, Del might be on the list, but the title of the investigation itself was to Aveline. Now, it really didn't make too much sense for him.
Aveline was pretty much very clean on the surface. Girl was very close to the teachers. Her academics were also on the top of the list as well. Her charismatic and beauty wouldn't really spark this kind of investigation.
Anyway, the reason why she got investigated was because there was a suspicion that she was working with imperial military. However, it also seemed that both of them were working in the same direction.
It was a shame that they put Del on the top of suspect list. What was his role on that crime if you may ask? Well, Del was said to the head gunman and the hitman for Aveline. Yeah, assumption that didn't bode too well with him. Not because it was wrong, but because it was putting it on the top of the list.
"Well, who stalks me? I have a list, but who's the person, to be exact?" Del asked himself and Mira.
"A lot of people don't like you, that's for sure. BUT, we might be able to narrow it down. We can start from the list of people that is in the security division. That way, we might be able to put the name on his list."
"If we let him do this, he would kill every single one of security division since all of them suddenly become a threat to national security." It was distasteful to let Morris to solve the problem. Due to the fact that they became a threat to national security, they might think killing them all was the best option. The information that Aveline carried was his and his only.
"True enough, but our problem will be solved as well, right?"
"Not quite, we might solve the problem for us, but not for Aveline."
"Hmm, no loose end, huh?"
"Yeah, no loose end. If Aveline gets out of this game, she will get out."
"I agree, you don't want her to come biting you, huh?"
"Nah, I just want her full integration to the team to be smooth. You know that our boss wants her on his side, for some unknown reasons," Del answered.
"Oh, yeah. You want to finish the bullshit with Bosch first, huh? Well, we can handle him later. For now, let's just decide what we want to do with these documents." Mira waved the documents with her hands.
"Put it back where you put it, I don't need to have it exterminated for now. I just want to let people think that I don't know anything. Still, it left us more questions that answers. Whatever, plant the bug and let's get out of here."
Mira planted a black box behind the wardrobe of the security division office. It should record and transmit any conversation in that office. Del planted a bug near the lamp, it was a small camera disguised as a light bulb. It was high-tech device given to him, courtesy of the intelligence agencies.
After they finished, Del opened the window of that room and jumped out into the blizzard. Mira followed from behind and jumped into the snow from the 2nd floor of that building. It was blackout again, visibility was absolute zero.
"Hey, stick close, alright?"
Navigating through the blizzard wasn't easy, to be honest. Mainly because it was very cold, and they wanted to avoid the main road. They wanted to use the furthest route from civilization to reach the cabin.
One of the routes was through the quiet part of the town and used the forest as cover from the law enforcement in Sneggor. However, he needed to climb the academy's fences first. Del threw a rope across the fences and climbed it. Mira followed from behind and they started traversing towards the quiet part of the town.
It was called that because there were little to no residents on the region of that town. Most of the houses were either abandoned or empty. It was also a safe passage towards the forest surrounding Sneggor.
Nobody would be crazy enough to get out of any building in this kind of blizzard. Well, Del was crazy to do that and he was proud of it. It might satisfy his eagerness of something, but it worked.
"For a blizzard, this is sure as hell something else."
"You're crazy boss. If you don't share me this heating spell, we might be dead."
It was -70 degrees, but it had probably dropped more. The heating spell allowed Mira and Del to keep themselves warm with the help of the cold weather gear that wasn't exactly made to handle this kind of temperature. Temperature rarely dropped below fifty, much less seventy degrees on Earth.
Basically, they were crazy enough. Heck, at extreme, the weather in Ilbistirum might reach as low as minus ninety on extreme. So yeah, a person from Earth would call this region as antartica, or worse. It all depended on how one looked at it.
Luckily, every equipment still worked properly, even the rifle. This was kinda something for him to walk in a place as cold as Sneggor. He kept walking until he reached the forest. There would be no animals there, or any monsters.
Del felt sorry for the security division. They might have to deal with a pile of snow when they returned for school. Well, it was not his business,

"Yeah, that heating spell is for high-altitude flying, but in this condition, it will work as well."
Del and Mira walked through the jungle as the winds threw slushes of ice on their faces. If there was one thing close describing this weather condition, probably this was one of the arctic weathers.
Del forbids Anna for using the lights. If she wanted to sleep in comfort, just use the command center. Even if there was lights, there wouldn't be anyone seeing it from outside. Every single window was covered and every single holed had been covered.. Morris slept there, and Anna might be using a sleeping bag to sleep there.
