Chapter 999: Breezing Through Waves
Chapter 999: Breezing Through Waves
Reading through the notification he'd received, Valyr briefly looked back at Alfaera as he raised his eyebrow in curiosity.
Seeing the expression on the young man's face, Alfaera let out a bit of laughter. "You'll understand once you see it."
At those words, the young man became somewhat expectant, even though he just planned on taking care of one of the waves because of pure goodwill.
Faintly nodding in response to her words, Valyr soon commanded the system to bring up the quest's description, only to be left at a slight loss for words with how generous the rewards for the quest were.
Ding!
[The Tidebreaker's Return] (Time-limited Quest)
Difficulty: B
Tidebreaker. Astarto's Hope. Astarto's Light.
Those titles have become your identity ever since you've established your footing in Astarto.
From your participation in the monster tides, to the clearing of the dungeon that hampered Astarto's expansion, the people of the former village have admired you, looked up to you as a model they should follow.
Because of that, many say that such titles are well-deserved, with even a select few saying that it is an understatement of your true abilities.
However, as your presence within Astarto became gradually forgotten, some began to wonder whether the titles you earned were truly deserving. Some began to wonder whether it was an overestimation of a man that was just slightly stronger for the time.
Of course, you had no reason to care about that, considering that your platform has already expanded to cover a size beyond the measly town of Astarto.
Yet, a few still do, such as the leader of Astarto Town herself.
Wanting to remind people of the Tidebreaker's existence, Alfaera Astarto has decided to turn the goodwill you've shown her into a stage for your return, a way for those dubious of your feats to realize that it wasn't unfounded.
With that, the question that remains is... will you accept?

Though the difficulty of the quest was on the easier side of the spectrum, the rewards Valyr would be getting from completing the quest was way beyond what the difficulty level suggested.
In a way, it kind of matched the rewards he'd gotten from completing Ryvrthe's quest, which was considered a S rank quest for the time.
Then again, with how some of the rewards were somewhat lacking compared to what Ryvrthe gave him, Valyr felt that the rewards he'd gain from the quest Alfaera gave him were more in- line with what A rank quests usually gave.
Yet, even that was still above the quest's difficulty level.
"You sure you want to give me this much?" Valyr asked Alfaera once he was done reading through the quest. "Even a fraction of this is more than enough, to be honest."
"It's the least we can do to give proper thanks to your contributions from before," replied Alfaera, prompting Valyr to recall the grand celebration the village threw for him after he'd cleared the dungeon.
Surprisingly, Alfaera also had the same thought in mind. "The celebration from back then isn't included."
"..." Becoming silent for a bit, Valyr eventually let out a wry chuckle as he accepted the quest, getting the feeling that there would be no end to the current situation if he rejected Alfaera's
goodwill.
With that, a satisfied smile adorned Alfaera's face as she moved the topic of their conversation somewhere else. "Speaking of which, you haven't told us what wave you plan on clearing."
"The wave before the Tidemother," said Valyr with a faint smile, which was more or less what the others were expecting him to choose.
"I had a feeling you'd choose that." Of course, Alfaera had the same thought as them. "There'd probably be no point for you in clearing any of the other waves anyway."
"Think of it as me easing the town's burdens," said Valyr in response, eliciting Alfaera to let out a bit of laughter in return.
"And this is why I attached all of those rewards to the quest I gave you."
After talking with Alfaera and the others for a bit more on how the town was holding up against the current monster tide, Valyr soon shifted his gaze to the battlefield, watching as the third wave was mostly cleared by the trainees they were nurturing.
By the time the fourth wave had arrived, almost all of the trainees were instructed to head to the rear lines as the experienced town guards showed the trainees the goals they should aspire
to be.
"Hiyah!" "Raagh!!!"
"Haah!"
With their stats greater than their peers thanks to the existence of the reinforcement elixirs, the guards now making up the frontlines had no problems clearing the fourth wave.
In fact, the same went for the fifth wave, where the guards showed dominance even against monsters that were at the middle to later levels of Rank 3.
By the time the sixth wave arrived, the town guards began to work alongside Astarto's budding military force, all of them boasting power that even exceeded the guards who'd been empowered with the reinforcement elixirs.
Getting an idea as to why the military was able to exhibit that much force, a slight smile adorned Valyr's face as he watched them take care of the wave after that with ease.
Once the seventh wave was fully cleared, it was only then did Valyr take a step forward, letting
out a bit of laughter as Tristan and Myst followed behind him.
"I suppose it's my turn now?"
