Chapter 95: Small Hunt (2/3)
The lone B-ranker ran towards the other two reliable members of his gang with a furious pace.
He yelled at the people surrounding the area who were looking at him with fear. "It's a demon! Hide if you don't want to die. The Hunters among you, follow me into battle!"
The man wanted to regather with the other two B-Rankers before dealing with the demon, and he quickened his pace, but suddenly, his face changed as the rooftop exploded.
Two wide wings flapped and the next thing he saw was a demon twice his own size looming over him. He didn't hesitate to use his Hunter Ability.
B-Rank Hunter Ability—Light Explosion!
Suddenly, an immense light exploded with the Hunter as the source and Mark felt his eyes get overwhelmed by light. He couldn't see a thing.
Heart Input!
Mark used his trusty demonic trick and entered inside the enemy's mind.
If the Hunter was a Demon, he would have had Mental Resistance but the man didn't. And so, he couldn't stop Mark from using his favorite trick.
He whispered, "Stop your light."
The man didn't want to stop his light but suddenly, his light vanished regardless. The Mindpower powering the Hunter Ability had been emptied.
The man looked with frightened eyes towards Mark.
That Light Explosion was his only power. He had no other ways of battling.
He was only good at distracting.
Against demons with Physical Resistance, his body strength was of no use!
Mark didn't have to take any actions anymore as a fire burned through the air and caught the panicked man's head like a helmet.
Dona waved her hand again and another fireball covered the man's entire body.
No Hunter without Fire Resistance could ever resist that!
"Argh!" the man screamed.
Mark jumped back and watched as the people around looked at him with frozen, shocked expressions.
Then, his gaze moved to the writhing Hunter on the ground who soon grew still.
Just as soon, he felt Dona stir.
Her new Trait was triggered.
[Soul Seizer]
[The trait allows a demon to seize the Soul of anyone they kill into their Soul Space naturally.]
The rune in Dona's hand blinked nearly invisibly, and she clenched Mark's hand. Her body expanded slowly and she became a lot bigger.
Her clothes got torn in some areas, too.
Mark hid her with his wings.
The people on the ground watched with horror as the demon killed one of the B-Rank Hunters around in merely seconds.
All of their faces were pale.
There was only one Hunter amidst them. A C-Ranker with the ability to levitate himself. The Hunter moved away with fear on his face.
Mark turned. His form blurred through the air and the C-Ranker's body was slammed onto the ground with an immense bang.
He was squeezed to death as if something had steamrolled him.
Mark clenched his hand and his wings fluttered near the smashed body.
He had absorbed the C-Rank Hunter's Mindpower using Parasite but even that was not enough energy. He had lost more than that to kill the Light Explosion Hunter.
Calm, Mark moved around like a blur with Dona and used Parasite with a bunch of the remaining mortals around. Even though they tried to escape, they couldn't.
When his Mindpower was back at full power, he ignored the rest of the survivors and rose to the sky with Dona. He vanished through the rooftop.
It was the first time he killed humans who had done him no harm, but Mark didn't feel particularly anything.
This was necessary, so he did it.
The rest of the mortals who had not been killed wheezed and screamed in relief, but just as they wanted to escape, ice spears lanced up from underneath them and pierced through their throats. Blood blossomed like a flower in the dark warehouse.
Choi Sung looked at the roof.
The rain outside poured into the warehouse through the crack Mark had left.
"I had to fight in the end," the Hunter sighed.
Atleast it's not against B-Rank Hunters but just normal people. Hm, I wonder if they have some guns in hand; i could sell those.
…
Mark stood on the roof, waiting for the other two B-Rank Hunters who were running towards him to arrive. He wrapped his hand around Dona's waist as she examined herself.
"Bigger," she said happily.
"Yeah, you are bigger," he praised.
She had absorbed that Hunter's soul directly into her and then devoured it within her Soul Space. Unlike before when she had to eat the raw meat of her fire's victims to grow stronger, she could now seize the soul and devour it like Mark did.
This was more elegant than barbaric meat eating.
Soul Seizer was a very useful trait for any demon, and if Reol'ran had not taught him the way to gain it, he could have never gotten it for Dona.
It was still not as effective as his Violet Screen, though. If he had killed that B-ranker, he would have gotten (100) soul spheres and he could choose what to put the points in—Mind or Physique. In contrast, Dona could only grow in both Physique and Mind equally.
And Dona hadn't gotten the full amount that he could get either; some energy seemed to have been lost in the process of absorbing the soul. But it was okay. Until now, she wasn't even a 'Low' Lower Demon, and now she was.
Her stats had gone from (11) to (51) in both Physique and Mind.

______
She had gotten a total of (80) points from the man she had just killed and the points had been split between her Mind and Physique to make both of those reach (51) from (11).
Indeed, killing those with stronger Mindpower than you was the best way to grow stronger quickly.
This also proved one other point to Mark: Physical and Mental stats weren't everything.
Even if Dona had fought alone, she wasn't completely outmatched against the man she had just killed, and the man's stats had reached the Pinnacle of Tier 1 whereas she was still a bit away from that.
Resistances and Abilities, and how you used them, mattered. Otherwise, Dona would have been helpless against that B-Rank Hunter who had a much stronger body on paper.
Suddenly, two people appeared just underneath him and Mark's golden eyes shimmered.
The roof below him broke with just a simple kick and he looked down at the duo beneath him calmly. A pudgy middle-aged man and a fat old woman glared up at him.
