Chapter 166: Race
Chapter 166: Race
The next day, Noah had packed his bags with the important things he was going to need, and placed them in the small trunk of the sports car. Fortunately he didn't have much to take, so it wasn't that hard.
He had already ordered the imps to clean the house while he slept, so he left with the house clean, which would probably still be clean when he went back. It would only be a few days for the championship, so he didn't expect to have to stay there long.
The championship itself would be organized in the city Eyrin, but since the city was very large, having millions of inhabitants, Noah had to practically travel to where the championship would be organized. Fortunately he had received a lot of money in these last Fortresses, so sustaining fuel for his car would be no problem.
This would be the most distant trip Noah would take with the car, so to say he wasn't excited about it would be a lie. Much of the route would be through the urban area of ??the city, but as the championship would take place on the other side of the city, there were some high-speed traffic highways, which would be exactly where he would want to test the limits of the car and have fun with the road.
If he wanted to go carefree he could just pay for a bus ticket, but then it would no longer make sense to have a sports car like his.
'Maybe one day I can take a trip like this riding the unicorn?' Noah thought of the majestic scene of him on the back of the unicorn, wearing the armor he took from the skeleton, giving the impression of a powerful fiery knight.
For now, he would have to "settle" for the luxury car he owned, which was nowhere near bad.
With a smile on his face, Noah put on a song to play on the car radio as he went out into the city heading towards the hotel he had set up to meet the boys.
Noah's journey through the busiest area of ??the city was as boring as he thought it would be. The rare exceptions were when he was at a very slow speed and he could feel the admiring looks of people toward his car, but otherwise, just accelerating and braking the car at traffic lights was very tedious, to the point that Noah had almost turned on the option of automatic steering of the car so that he could be fiddling with his cell phone or watch a movie along the way, but thinking that if he did that he might miss something fun, Noah decided to continue driving the car himself.
And he was not wrong. As soon as he hit one of the highways that ran through the city at high speed, the feeling of the car's rear-wheel drive pushing the car forward while his body squeezed into the seat was priceless.
The left lane was exclusive for those who wanted to drive at high speed or overtake other traffic, meaning Noah started to accelerate the car while watching the speedometer go up.
100 km / h... 160 km / h... 200 km / h... 240 km / h... 280 km / h... 300 km / h...
Noah only realized that he was at 300 km / h because he saw that the other cars were being overtaken too fast, which made him look at the speedometer, because with the windows closed, there was nothing in the car that made him feel like he was at such a high speed. The steering was as stable as before; the noise coming from outside was very little; the sound of the engine did not seem that it was trying so hard.
Noah really believed what Robert said about the car being able to reach 400 km / h. With how much technology this car had, it hadn't even felt like it was at 300 km / h. Getting to 400 km / h wouldn't be difficult at all. But that would unfortunately not be something that Noah would do this time.
As much as he was tempted to get the car to top speed, Noah was aware that he was not as practiced in driving cars, especially at such high speeds. So at speeds like 300 km / h, the technology that the car had could help him some, but if the speed started to go up even more, the car would have only him and his experience, which was almost nothing, to rely on.
In order not to risk it, Noah decided to slow down a bit, going down to 200 km / h and staying in the lane to the right of the one he was on.
At that speed, it would take him only 20 minutes to reach the highway exit and get back to the busiest part of the city, so Noah was in no hurry.
But unfortunately, a car caught his eye.
While Noah was accelerating, he had passed some other luxurious and sporty cars. The car that was behind him at that time was exactly one of those cars.
A red Corvette that had a much louder engine noise than Noah's car was trailing him with reckless abandon, revving the engine to the point that even Noah with the radio on and the windows closed was hearing the noise from that car. But that was not because the car itself was noisy, but because the driver was glued to his rear while accelerating the car in neutral from time to time.
'What does this person want? The left lane is free; if he wants to overtake me, the only thing he needs to do is go left,' Noah asked himself, a little confused mentally.
There was nothing he could do to get this car off his back, until Noah thought of a possibility. 'I have about 10 minutes at this speed before the highway ends. Maybe it doesn't hurt that I have a little fun if that's what this person wants.' Noah thought as he accelerated the car once more.
200 km / h... 240 km / h... 260 km / h... 280 km / h... 300 km / h...
When Noah saw that the speedometer had reached 300 km / h, he saw that the driver of the Corvette at his rear was still as close as before.
At that speed, the time it would take him to get to the exit would be less than 7 minutes. 'Do you want to run more? I'll give you a few more minutes for that then,' Noah thought as he stepped deeper on the gas. 'In the end, if everything goes wrong, I turn the car's direction to an uninhabited area and teleport to somewhere safer. I can use a free-fall motion to lower my kinetic strength forward before teleporting over a nearby building and stopping completely. The most that will happen is that I lose my car, but what's the use of having a car if it's not for use? But I will only go up to 360 km / h, nothing more.'
300 km / h... 315 km / h... 330 km / h...
Noah's speed was rising steadily as the Corvette behind him started making even more engine noise to try to keep up with Noah's Aston Martin.
The view being seen by the other cars on the road was a little scary, but very beautiful. After all, two luxury sports cars were racing at insane speeds right next to them. While mothers worried that these cars might cause an accident to put their children at risk, the husbands who drove the cars next door looked on with envy, wanting to be young again with a sports car to join these two red cars that practically flew over the asphalt.
Many men had had the dream of having expensive and fast cars to have fun by reaching insane speeds, so even though they couldn't make their dream come true because of the family, at least they had fun seeing these two young men in red cars racing down the road.
Unaware of this, Noah and the driver of the red Corvette were grinning at several men they had passed on the road and the concerned and disapproving expressions from women who were concerned about the situation of others.
Since this road was a highway with no speed limit, Noah and the Corvette driver were not concerned about being fined for speeding, which made them accelerate both cars even more.
330 km / h... 345 km / h... 355 km / h...
Noah was almost reaching the top speed he had set for himself, until he realized that the Corvette was starting to lag behind, unable to keep up with that speed.
'Perhaps this Corvette is not the top-of-the-line version with the most powerful engine, hehe.' Noah laughed internally as he watched the Corvette slowly move away from the car's rear view mirror.
Their run was short-lived, as Noah's exit from the highway was less than a kilometer ahead, which made Noah start to slow down and head to the far right lane.
With an eyebrow raised, Noah realized that the Corvette was also following him out of the highway.
Noah was following the car's GPS in the direction he was supposed to take to get to his destination, but strangely, no matter which turn he took, which corner he turned, the Corvette was at the back of him all the time.
'Does this person want problems? Or maybe he's also going to the championship?' Noah thought a little suspiciously.
