Chapter 156 - She's No Angel (2)
Song Xiangrong looked at her with confusion. What did she mean the angel was already dead? Did she mean it figuratively? That her innocence and kindness were gone after her accident?
Or did she mean Li Xiuying was dead? Was that it?
As she tried hard to think about it, her eyes widened and her jaws dropped which was the cue for Li Chuntao to smile evilly at her. She was smiling? Was it because this woman knew what was running in her mind?
Song Xiangrong remembered being told that her daughter-in-law had a younger twin sister residing abroad and was attending medical school. She had only seen the woman during her son's wedding but as she looked at Li Chuntao, she couldn't stop the tremor that shook her entire body.
"No… No… this couldn't be. You aren't Li Xiuying," she muttered to herself but Li Chuntao could hear her. What were the odds that her daughter-in-law was really dead and the woman in front of her was the twin sister?
"Who the hell are you?" She demanded.
This woman could've killed her earlier if she wanted to, and just the thought of it turned her into a scared cat trapped in the corner. She felt like the devil herself had visited her today.
"Who am I? Oh, please. Spare me!" Li Chuntao slapped her both thighs and lifted her hands and shook her head. "Please don't tell me stupidity runs in your family."
"You… You are Li Xiuying's younger sister," Song Xiangrong replied. She pressed her knees against her chest and tried to make herself look as small as she could, which was ridiculous in Li Chuntao's opinion.
"Bingo!" Li Chuntao made a gun sign with her hand and gestured to shoot the old woman.
"Then why are you doing this? Why are you pretending to be your sister?" The old woman prayed in her heart that the staff had started doing their rounds at this time so she could be saved from this crazy woman who was pretending as her daughter-in-law.
Li Chuntao chuckled darkly and sighed dramatically. Mu Jianyu surely came from this foolish woman, she had no doubt about it anymore. They were a pair of foolish mother and son.
"My, my, you're all such a bunch of clowns. Why am I pretending? Let's see…" she tapped her chin as she pretended thinking of her reason.
"My twin sister is dead but investigation says that someone killed her. Do you know who it was, Miss Song?"
Song Xiangrong's hands were shaking as she held her knees. Did someone kill Li Xiuying? This woman and her daughter-in-law came from the Li family. They were the kind of people no regular citizen can offend.
Were they suspecting her son for killing Li Xiuying? Impossible! He might have cheated on her, but to kill her? Never!
"My Jianyu is innocent! He can't possibly kill his own wife!" She tried to defend her son.
Li Chuntao hummed but her face told the old woman that she didn't believe her claims.
"Ya sure, he didn't kill her? Your son had an extramarital affair with a starlet. How sure are you that they didn't plan my sister's accident that fateful day?" She retorted back.
Song Xiangrong looked at her straight in the eyes. Mu Jianyu might have betrayed Li Xiuying, but she knew her son loved that woman. How many times did they argue because of her?
"No… No… he couldn't possibly be able to kill her. Jianyu loves your sister too much," she shook her head before burying it between her knees, while her tears streamed down her face.
"Miss Song, it doesn't matter if he killed my sister or not, because he already killed her emotionally and mentally before her death. Why am I pretending as her? It's for the simple reason of getting revenge in her stead." Li Chuntao said nonchalantly and wiped off the invisible lint from her clothes. The black and green dress she was wearing was a perfect contrast to her deep green coat and black high heels.
"And just to be clear, unlike your biased assumption, Ying isn't a barren woman. She was carrying her and your son's baby during the accident. She was pregnant with Mu Jianyu's child while he was busy impregnating another woman behind her back. Do you understand now what kind of betrayal and pain your precious son inflicted on my sister?"
The old woman uncurled herself and stared wide-eyed at Li Chuntao's face in disbelief. Li Xiuying was pregnant and was involved in the accident that took her life… then the child… Her son's own flesh and blood perished with her?
Li Chuntao prepared herself to leave but the old woman suddenly found the courage to talk back to her.
"I'll tell my son you aren't his wife. You cannot hurt him while I'm here!" She pointed a finger towards Li Chuntao. "I swear, you cannot harm my son while I'm still here!"
"So do you mean to say that I should kill YOU first?" Li Chuntao turned to face the old woman again and buried her trembling fists inside the side pockets of her coat. She realized that being reminded of how her sister lost her life still had an effect on her.
The old woman's face was beet red. Her hair was unkempt as she kept cursing Li Chuntao in her mind.
"Oh, really? Do you think you can threaten me, old hag? I like to see you try," she challenged her but Song Xiangrong said nothing to retort. She wasn't afraid. Song Xiangrong was wrong to assume that she could blackmail a witch.
"You want to tell Mu Jianyu that the woman who came back to him isn't his real wife? Please do so, then I'll tell him each of your lies and why his father abandoned the two of you."
When she saw Song Xiangrong's body shook again, Li Chuntao knew that the older woman was cursing her hard in her heart, but did she care? Like what Song Xiangrong said earlier, she was no angel.
"You are free to tell him the truth, Miss Song. Do you have a phone for you to use? I can lend you one if you don't. Please call him so he would know how you betrayed his trust all these years, Mother." She taunted her and laughed wickedly. "Do you think I'm as stupid as your son to reveal my identity to you without making some preparations ahead?"
Song Xiangrong was breathing hard and holding her chest as her blood pressure shot up from Li Chuntao's words. Was this woman planning to kill her? She wouldn't be able to have the surgeries at this rate.
"A con-woman like YOU is no match against a witch like ME," Li Chuntao ran her fingers through her thick hair and looked at the woman with half-lidded eyes.
"Song Xiangrong, please don't die yet. Mother, you should live long because I intend to give you the front seat at the show. Please watch and pay attention to how I will break and destroy your precious son right in front of you," was Li Chuntao's parting words before she unlocked the door and stepped outside, leaving the disgruntled old woman inside the room.
The smile on her face faded and was replaced with a menacing and cold look that Su Ling and Yu Luo were familiar with.
