Chapter 72: Chapter 72 - I Hate Him!
Laura stood in front of the mirror in the restroom, touching up her makeup. As she smoothed lipstick over her lips, she couldn't help but smile. It was a rare feeling of happiness that she hadn't experienced in a long time, especially since losing her father. Was it because of Leon? But he was no longer anyone special to her. Could they at least be friends again? A pang of guilt gnawed at her heart as if she were ready to kneel down and admit her mistakes. Was it possible that he still harbored anger? What she had done was truly awful, wasn't it? So, it was understandable if he held a grudge. Could she do something to make amends?
Suddenly, her phone rang, and she answered to find Bob on the line.
"Yes, Bob?"
"Laura, you've met with Leon, haven't you? That idiot has caused me losses, and I want you to help me get back at him. I know he's a pathetic person and deserves to be treated that way." "I did say I was going to meet Leon, Bob, but I won't entertain your idea, you know... this is my personal matter with him," she said firmly.
"Do you know? He's a fraud. I'm sure the money he's getting is through dishonest means! Do you know how pathetic he is? There's no way he could afford nice things, let alone hold onto that much money! Lure him into doing something stupid, and record it. I'll humiliate him. I know you hate him too, don't you? At least you can get back at his past foolishness for making you look foolish as his girlfriend."
"Bob, I hope you keep all your nonsense to yourself. Let me talk with him in my own way. Your problem is not mine!" she asserted.
"I've helped you secure your home! Your old home, the one you're living in now... I know you have memories there because you used to live with your late father in that place. I've helped you! You should repay me! I want you to help me embarrass that idiot Leon!" he threatened.
"No, Bob, I'll repay your kindness but not like this," she reaffirmed.
"Do you think you can treat me like this?" he insisted.
"I think you're right about him, Bob," Laura said. "He has changed, he seems cooler, but I think he got it all from the game."
"Do you really think someone can suddenly become rich in a matter of days in Immortal Legacy? Are you that naive?"
Laura suddenly heard hurried footsteps, and she quickly checked to see Leon walking quickly and leaving. Instantly, she felt shocked and frozen for a moment, closing the phone and chasing after him. "Did he overheard my conversation with Bob? He must have
misunderstood!" she thought.
She had to catch up to him and explain! She didn't want this moment to be ruined because of a misunderstanding. Hopefully, he would listen to her explanation. Laura chased after Leon, who had left the cafe. "Leon, please... I don't want to make things worse," she said to herself, panic setting in, her hands trembling.
She had left Leon because of her father's disapproval of their relationship, knowing he was just an orphan with no future, and because of her father's poor health, she reluctantly followed her father's wish. But since then, she hadn't been able to shake her guilt towards him.
She knew it would be very difficult to explain this to him, but at least she didn't want things to get worse. She had to try to explain.
Leon suddenly clenched his fists tightly, feeling a surge of anger at the mention of Bob's name. So, she met him because of Bob's request? Damn! he cursed silently, feeling foolish for even considering her again! He should have completely forgotten about her! What she had done already showed that she wasn't someone worthy of his trust.
With gritted teeth, Leon swiftly left the café, his disappointment palpable. He stormed out, his steps halting when a car suddenly pulled up in front of him. He was about to step aside, but the window rolled down, revealing Freya, her brown hair peeking out from under sunglasses, smiling widely and waving.
"Hey, handsome, the special assistant is here to provide special emergency help," she said, giggling, before opening the car door.
Leon quickly got in and fastened his seatbelt. As the car started to move, Laura emerged from the café, her high heels slipping off as she nearly stumbled but then quickly regained her balance, running and trying to stop Freya's car from leaving.
"Leon... please, don't go, Leon... you've misunderstood, let me explain," she pleaded, doing her best to block the car from moving. "Leon, please... Please listen to my explanation..." she shouted, drawing the attention of onlookers nearby.
Inside the car, Freya glanced at Leon and smirked. "Mr. Ex-Boyfriend, do you intend to handle this situation on your own or not? Because I'm pretty sure my contract doesn't mention anything about helping you with your love life drama," she said.
Leon tried to avoid looking at Laura, but his mind was in turmoil. He had initially intended to at least rebuild a friendship with her. At least they had been friends longer than they had dated. For Leon, someone who was poor and shunned by his peers, having a friend like Laura in the past was something precious. Her kindness in the past, when she insisted on being friends with him when no one else wanted to be his friend. It left a lasting impression on him. At least they could be friends again!
But, why Bob? Of all people, why Bob? The despicable manager who was also his classmate in senior high school... Even after graduation, he still enjoyed bullying him.
Leon gritted his teeth, seeing that Laura seemed determined, her pleading expression trying to stop the car from moving. "Leon, please listen to my explanation."
"Mr. Handsome..." Freya muttered. "Do you want to prolong this issue? I'm uncomfortable with my car number being recognized by many people because of this drama. People are recording these dramatic scenes," she said.
Leon then opened the door and stepped out towards Laura, who seemed to calm down slightly as he emerged. Panic was evident on her face.
"Leon, you've misunderstood, let me explain. Yes, Bob asked me to meet you, but this has nothing to do with him at all. I genuinely wanted to see you..." she tried to explain.
Leon took a deep breath but remained silent, staring firmly at her.
"Bob asked me to find out about you because he feels like you've wronged him... but, Leon... I have no business with Bob. I truly wanted to meet you to explain everything that happened in the past," she said, gasping for breath.
"Then why did you waste time and not explain what happened immediately, Laura?" he said firmly.
"I will explain everything. I will apologize to you until you're satisfied. I regret what happened, but please give me time to tell you everything."n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Leon shook his head. "Laura, I've forgotten everything, even your name, until you suddenly contacted me and started bringing back those memories," he said.
"Leon..." Laura said softly, turning back to look into the car where there was a beautiful
woman, elegant and poised. "I understand if you hold a grudge against me and bring your girlfriend in front of me to retaliate for my behavior," she said.
Leon didn't attempt to explain anything.
Freya felt that this had dragged on long enough. She stepped out of the car and removed her sunglasses, immediately wrapping her right arm around Leon's and getting close to him.
"So, who is she, Leon?" Freya said softly.
This made him slightly uncomfortable, and he glanced at Freya, who was pressing her side against his arm. "Freya?" What kind of acting are you trying to do?! he thought, puzzled. Laura looked towards Freya, panic evident in her expression as she shook her head. She took a step back, trying to hold back the tears slowly welling up in her eyes. "Sorry... I just wanted to explain something to him," she said, lowering her gaze.
She then looked back at Leon. "Do you still want to be friends, Leon?" she said.
Leon shook his head, then gently pulled Freya's wrist back into the car. He opened the passenger door for Freya and moved to the driver's side. The car rumbled and reversed, then quickly turned, passing by Laura, who stood stiffly on the side of the road.
Onlookers, who had been watching with curiosity, chuckled and walked away from the scene.
"So... weird!"
"That guy surely is a playboy!"
"But two women fighting over that guy are really beautiful."
"Damn, that guy is so lucky. I hate him."
