Chapter 429: Chapter 429 - Vermilion Tendrils
[Activating Demon Pact: Felhorn skill]
[The Demon Pact target is a Legendary-grade Felhorn Lv. 212]
[The Felhorn accepted the Pact]
A magic circle formed beneath the lazy Felhorn, who was still lounging on the bed. As the circle began to glow, the demon sat up, looking around with a confused expression until the glow faded and the magic circle disappeared.
[Activating Demon Pack Pocket Dimension: You can store the demon here and summon it whenever you want.]
[The Demon Pact has been completed.]
Broken nodded, smiling toward Alora as the pact concluded.
"So, have you formed a contract with it?" she asked. "Now, tell me its level, status, skills- everything!"
"But before we get into all that," he replied, "I think you should give this Felhorn a new name, Princess. Got any ideas?"
"Name?" Alora paused, gently stroking Felhorn's head. "Hey, buddy, do you mind if I give you a name?"
"Yeah... I don't really care either way," the Felhorn answered.
"Okay, how about... Pawpaw? I think that's a cute name!"
Pawpaw? Broken frowned, feeling like Princess Alora's sense of naming was... a bit random. Pawpaw? Wouldn't something more menacing, like Black Cat or Shadow Blood, fit better? A name that reflects the legendary status of a demon from Hell?
"Pawpaw?" Felhorn echoed, his sleepy eyes blinking slowly. "Okay, then... My name is Pawpaw."
Alora giggled and glanced at Broken. "He likes it, Broken."
"Yes, Princess," Broken said with a wry smile, "that's the cutest and best name I've ever heard in my life."
Alora laughed at his sarcastic tone. "Now, show me its status! I want to see what we're working with."
With a sigh and a half-smile, Broken brought up the demon's status screen.
[Name: Pawpaw]
[Level: 212]
[Strength: 378 | Agility: 657 | Intelligence: 589 | Constitution: 321 | Stamina: 387]
"Wow... level 212... that's incredibly high for a creature this small!" Alora said excitedly.
Broken nodded in agreement, equally impressed by Felhorn's level and stats. It was actually higher than his own level. Level 212. But of course, this was good news-he had formed a contract with a powerful demon beast, after all.
Now he had two demon beasts under his command: Pawpaw, and Blaze. Blaze had a higher level, sitting at 223 compared to Pawpaw's 212, but the difference in quality was clear. Pawpaw was Legendary-grade, hatched from a special Demon Egg, and shared the same beast classification as a Named Demon. That meant Pawpaw had even greater potential for growth. While Blaze couldn't talk-just like Marlene's shadow wolves, which had never shown any signs of speech-this little Felhorn could. And the demon pact they had formed was unique; as Broken's strength grew, so too would Pawpaw's.
"Pawpaw's stats are heavily skewed toward Agility and Intelligence. It seems like he's built for quick, magic combat," he said.
"The Felhorn we fought back then was agile too, using a combination of speed and Shadow magic. I wonder if Pawpaw has similar skills," Alora mused.
Broken pulled up Pawpaw's skill list, inspecting it carefully. There were four skills listed. [Vermillion Tendrils:
Manifests shadowy blood tendrils to attack enemies, dealing 150% physical damage and 150% Vermillion Dusk element damage. These tendrils can be controlled by the demon to target specific enemies or perform tasks, and they continuously drain stamina while active. The demon beast can traverse between shadows linked to the two individuals who supplied mana during its egg phase, consuming mana only when traversing.]
The first skill, Vermilion Tendrils, seemed to be a manifestation of the Vermilion Dusk element that Pawpaw had gained after absorbing Gremory's blood. This ability allowed Pawpaw to manipulate shadowy blood, a unique power that could be used both for offensive attacks and for life steal.
Intriguingly, the skill also enabled Pawpaw to jump between shadows-specifically the shadows of those who had supplied him with Mana during his time in the egg. Which meant... Pawpaw could potentially teleport between Broken and Alora using their shadows.
He shared the details of the skill with Princess Alora via the transparent screen in front of him. "Oh... so Pawpaw can visit me anytime he wants?" Alora giggled, clearly entertained by the idea.
While Alora found it amusing, Broken saw the tactical advantage. Pawpaw could easily shift between them, offering Alora additional protection whenever needed. The demon beast could jump between their locations depending on who required his help most.
"Pawpaw can stay at the palace more often if he likes, Princess," Broken suggested with a smile.
Alora shook her head. "You're the one who formed the contract with him, so he'll follow you. But if this little kitten ever wants to visit me, he's welcome anytime."
Pawpaw's potential was undeniable. His level was already incredibly high for something that had just hatched, and the thought of how much stronger he would grow as both he and Broken continued to level up was exciting. And the possibility of gaining even more powerful skills in the future? That was a game-changer.
Broken nodded to himself, imagining how Pawpaw's ability to shift between shadows could be a lifeline, not only in combat but also in keeping Alora safe.
[Crimson Eclipse (Ultimate Skill):
Creates a red-tinted shadow that reduces enemy visibility and movement speed by 30%. The demon becomes untargetable while in the shadows.
Mana Cost: 1500
Cooldown: 8 minutes
Duration: 1 minute]Nôv(el)B\\jnn
The next skill, Crimson Eclipse, was just as fascinating. Although it came with a longer cooldown-eight minutes-its effects were undeniably powerful. For one minute, Pawpaw would become untargetable, making him nearly impossible to hit, while also reducing enemy visibility and movement speed by 30%.
With his high Agility and Magic stats, once this skill was activated, Pawpaw could easily turn into a nightmare for his opponents. He would weave through the battlefield, dishing out relentless attacks while his enemies struggled to see or even keep up with him.
Broken's mind raced with the possibilities. If he was in the same battle, they could synchronize Crimson Eclipse with one of his own powerful skills, creating devastating combos that would leave their enemies helpless. Pawpaw could focus on sowing chaos among their foes, weakening them with reduced vision and slowed movements, while Broken unleashed his own attacks in perfect harmony.
This combination of agility, magic, and strategy made Crimson Eclipse a potential game- changer. Broken couldn't help but grin, knowing that with Pawpaw at his side, they could overwhelm even the most formidable enemies.
[Shadow Veil (Active Skill):
Cloaks the demon and up to two allies in shadows, turning them invisible and increasing movement speed by 20%. The skill is canceled if the demon or its allies attack or are attacked. This skill has a continuous duration and consumes mana over time.]
The third skill, Shadow Veil, was incredibly intriguing. It allowed Pawpaw to turn invisible,
not just by himself, but with the ability to bring up to two others along with him. Though, the invisibility wasn't limited by time-it could remain active indefinitely, as long as Pawpaw
had enough Mana to sustain it.
[Vermillion Rebirth (Passive Skill):
Revives the demon once upon death by consuming nearby blood, restoring 30% of its health.
This effect can only be triggered once per battle.
Trigger: Upon death
Cooldown: Once per battle]
The last skill, Vermilion Rebirth, was a defensive ability that stood out as a lifesaver. This skill allowed Pawpaw to resurrect once if he were to be defeated in battle. Unlike Polly, who had the ability to recover if killed, Pawpaw couldn't naturally come back-this skill provided a crucial second chance. It would act as an early warning for them, signaling them that if Pawpaw went down, they'd need to rethink their strategy or retreat immediately. With this impressive skill set-Vermilion Tendrils for offensive control, Crimson Eclipse for deadly untargetable strikes, Shadow Veil for stealth and mobility, and Vermilion Rebirth for a safety net-Pawpaw was shaping up to be an invaluable ally.
On top of that, Broken's own skill from the Demon Pact, Shared Senses, was a major advantage. The ability to see and hear through Pawpaw's eyes meant he could send the Felhorn on scouting missions and gather real-time intel without putting himself or his party
members in danger.
Plus, with Pawpaw's abilities, infiltrating enemy territory became a breeze, and escaping was
even easier!
As Broken was lost in thought, imagining the endless possibilities and strategies he could use with Pawpaw, Alora's voice brought him back to the present.
"So, how long are you planning to stay in the capital, Broken?" she asked.
