Chapter 233 - In Big Trouble
[Unedited]
Cain was curious to know who it was because Kimmy had a broad smile on her face. He only hoped it was a woman and not a man.
"Hello Boss," Kimmy energetically greeted.
Leila's eyebrow lifted because Kimmy was her only daughter who she wanted to pamper and give everything! Who was that Boss?! She almost forgot that Kimmy worked as a bodyguard at country D, so she probably worked for that person before.
"Stop calling me Boss, or I will pull out your hair when I see you," Kenzie, who Kimmy worked for as a bodyguard while she was at country D, scolded. Kimmy only giggled, and this time it was Cain who lifted his eyebrows.
He was too frustrated to confirm whether Kimmy was talking to a man or not.
"I guess you're missing me, huh. I'm eating lunch, Boss.. Can I call you back later, and let's have a good chat later!" Kimmy said with a smile while she looked at her plate and played on with her fork.
"Okay, but I just called to ask if you see Harry by now," Kenzie asked.
"Harry?!" Kimmy burst. She suddenly straightened her back. She did not know why, but her eyes darted in Cain's direction, who was staring at her intently without blinking.
She could feel her heart drumming her chest so hard at that time, unsure whether it was because of hearing Harry's name or because of the intensity of Cain's stare.
'Damn!' Kimmy cursed.
"Harry flew there. Honestly, Daryl and I felt something was off… He said it's for business when he can assign only someone to go there, but he insisted on going there himself. You know… he also asked for your address there, so I gave him your apartment address. The one you gave me before you left," Kenzie informed.
She left the address of her apartment to Kenzie, too, in the hope that Harry would ask for it, of course. She had mixed emotions at that time, but she murmured, "I'm staying in a…."
Kimmy stopped, and she turned to look at her mother. Her mother was not aware of where she was staying, and it was not a good thing for her mother to find out that she was currently living at Lewis's house.
"Where is he staying? Can you send me his number? Wait… Did you give him my number?" Kimmy timidly asked. She suddenly stood up from her chair because she could feel that all eyes were on her.
"I will just go out for a while," she said and quickly left the dining area so she could talk to Kenzie privately, or else she would end up stuttering with the rugged look directed in hers both from her mother and Cain.
Leila shook her head as she stared at her daughter's back, who rushed away from them.
"That brat, it's not like I will crash into her place that she has to leave like that so I can't hear her!" she complained about a crumpled face.
She turned at Cain, whose eyes were still in the direction where Kimmy left though she was no longer there.
"Son, do you know where Kimmy is staying?" Leila asked.
Cain turned at her and said, "She's in a safe and good place, aunty, so you don't need to worry. I assure you that."
Leila sighed and said, "Did she threaten you if you say anything to me about it?"
Cain chuckled and said, "Hmm, you can say that, aunty, but please don't worry."
"Alright, I trust you, Cain. I wonder who that is, Harry, though. I heard she was a bodyguard before, so I guess that person she's talking to was the one she worked for, calling that person Boss. She probably worked into a married couple. Ah, she's a Princess, so I can't understand why she worked as a bodyguard when she's the one in need of a bodyguard!" Leila burst while secretly observing Cain's expression and body language.
Cain was a psychiatrist, so he could probably tell or guess what was in her mind already. She was trying to ease any tension because she knew how curious Harry was with just his intense look at Kimmy a while ago. The two were definitely in a relationship, and they were hiding it for some reason. Maybe they were testing their compatibility first?
Leila was willing to do whatever it took to help the two into a harmonious relationship. That was why she was suppressing herself hard not to ask them or meddle with what was going on between Cain and Kimmy.
"Son, let's continue eating. I'm sure Kimmy will go back here soon. Here… Try this dish," Leila offered and handed him a plate of a different dish. Cain accepted it. He must compose himself. He could talk about it to Kimmy later.
They continued eating while he occasionally looked at the dining area entrance, waiting for Kimmy to return. He did not know why but the name Harry was bothering him a lot. There was something in Kimmy's expression when she said Harry's name.
Kimmy mentioned before that she had someone she loved in country D. Could it be that the person she said was Harry?
He quietly sighed. Cain never felt so anxious like he was feeling right now and thinking that he was only speculating with the name he heard from her lips.
Finally, Kimmy returned.
"Sorry," she mumbled with an awkward smile as she went back to her seat.
Leila looked at her daughter then casually asked, "Who's that?"
"Hmm, it's Kenzie. I worked for her as her bodyguard while I stayed at country D mom." She answered.
"Oh, alright. You tell so little about your life while you're gone. I hope someday we can talk about it. I'm interested in how my only daughter survived on her own. But then I am proud of you, Kimmy, since you're an independent woman and a carefree one at that," Leila genuinely stated with a smile.
That caught Kimmy off guard. She missed her mother very much, but Kimmy knew she had to leave. She felt suffocated with how her mother treated her like a baby even though she was grown up already. Her mother would always decide things for her in all aspects. Her mother did not bother to ask her first if it was what she wanted. She could let things slide when it comes to simple things like her clothes, schools, and more, but she had enough when that arranged marriage came in.
"Oh, I see. And that Harry is her husband, right?" Leila asked next. She wanted Kimmy to clarify things because Cain's aura changed after Kimmy received that call. Leila really could feel the tension. She was reminding herself not to meddle, but she could not help it.
Kimmy coughed a bit to clear her throat. She looked at her mother then turned to Cain. The two were closely staring at her, waiting for her answer.
It was just a simple question, so why was she feeling like this?
"No. Harry is her brother-in-law. Mom, can we continue eating now? The food will get cold, and I'm still hungry," she said with a smile.
She started eating while she silently hoped that her mother would no longer ask any more about Harry.
Leila continued eating as well, but she could tell something was off. Did her daughter get involved with a man during her stay in country D? It would not be impossible. Her daughter was pretty and intelligent, so many men would swoon over her for sure. The question was, did she have a relationship with any man in that country at all?
The lunch went smoothly with all of them not talking at all. Kimmy's mother was too thoughtful and very attentive to Cain and Kimmy, offering them dessert next.
"It's good that they are keeping in touch with you," Cain suddenly commented while looking at Kimmy.
"Yeah, they are nice people. They treat me so well and like a family on top of that without knowing my real identity."
"Oh, that's good. That Harry is in the country, right? The brother-in-law? You can treat him to a nice meal to thank his family for treating you well. Aunty will be delighted to know some of the people who help you out while you are away," Cain suggested. He knew he was nosy, but he was too curious not to bother.
"Right. You must invite that Harry here, Kimmy! Let me thank him and his family, at least for treating you so well. Cain, you too should come!" Leila burst. She was frustrated to know what was going on and suggested that Harry might enlighten them all. Besides, she genuinely wanted to meet people Kimmy stayed with to discover how her daughter's life was while she was gone!
Kimmy's shoulder's dropped.
'Why do I feel like I'm in big trouble?!' She mused while giving her mother an awkward smile.
