Book 4: Chapter 45: First Step to Becoming Friends
“Skadi, can I look at your sword?” Chen Heng felt a strong interest in Skadi’s sword. This weapon sounded very heavy; he wondered if he could raise it. Breaking Shining’s sword earlier in the day had stimulated an interest in the materials and forging methods of this world.
“Sure, but let’s go to my room first. Speaking of which, why are you staying on the fourth floor too?” Skadi took out a key from her pocket and opened the door across from Chen Heng’s.
Skadi felt strange that a new operator got directly assigned to the fourth floor, which housed all sorts of eccentrics and oddities.
Although Skadi did not participate in any social activities in Rhodes Island, she had heard the rumors about the fourth floor. However, she had no desire to refute them since they reduced trouble for her.
“At first, it was to hide from a person. Since I stayed here my first night in Rhodes Island, I immediately thought of this place. Later on, I noticed that all the rooms on the fourth floor were one-person rooms. I felt it was better than sharing a room, like on the other floors.”
His fear of sharing a room with Adnachiel, a Lateran, was a factor. Also, he had Blue Poison as a neighbor here. Of course, he did not need to say these.
“I’ll place the sword here. If you want to try, go on. I’ll go get some food.” Skadi placed her sword on a custom-made wooden stand in the living room. Then she headed to the fridge to scrounge for food.
Ordinary stands could never endure the weight of Skadi’s sword. This stand was custom-made, using an ingenious structure to spread the sword’s weight.
Chen Heng walked to the stand and observed Skadi’s sword and the stand. This stand had a special support structure; the person who made it must have many genius ideas.
“Damn! This sword is hefty.” Chen Heng lifted the gigantic sword from the stand and found it truly heavy. Even with his strength, he could barely wave it. Even raising it took some effort, not to mention fighting with it.
In the end, Chen Heng was just a martial artist. He had not converted his inner strength to Spiritual Energy, so he only had an ordinary physique.
Skadi came out of the kitchen and saw Chen Heng waving her sword. Although his motions were quite strange to her, they looked pleasant, presenting a strange beauty.
For the first time, Skadi found that her great sword could look so nice in motion.
“You are quite strong. Most people cannot even budge my sword.”
“Thank you for your praise. Why did you come out empty-handed? Is there nothing to eat?” Seeing Skadi walk out of the kitchen carrying nothing, he quickly guessed the reason.
“Yes.”
“Don’t you normally store some food in the dormitory?”
“I do. However, I finished it the last time I returned and forgot to prepare more.”
“Wait for a while. I’ll go back to my room and get you some food.”
------
“Are you not afraid of me? You must have heard about me from the other operators over the past two days, right?” Skadi chatted with Chen Heng while eating the cake he handed her.
Maybe because killer whales tended to be friendly with humans, Skadi spoke more than usual, even taking the initiative to ask a question.
“No. When I heard about you, I felt even more interested in you. Would you like to be friends?”
“Are you serious?” Skadi stopped eating and stared at Chen Heng when she heard his words.
“Of course I’m serious. I don’t know why, but I felt a sense of closeness the moment I saw you.” This was true. He felt a sense of closeness with all the operators he had met in the game. After all, these were all his waifus—excluding the male operators.
“…If you are not afraid of dying, you can try.” Skadi continued eating the cake after some silence. The cake was truly delicious.
For some reason, Skadi found Chen Heng strangely pleasant to her. That was one reason for her acceptance. The other reason was his being sufficiently strong.
“So you agree? I’ll introduce myself again. This humble self is He Who Knows Fate.”
“Skadi.”
He Who Knows Fate: I successfully became friends with Skadi. Then…
Kal’tsit: Skadi should have just returned to her dormitory after finishing a mission. You moved that quickly?
He Who Knows Fate: I happened to run into her when she returned.
Efreet: Then what?
He Who Knows Fate: After we became friends, everything felt meaningless. Another two-dimensional waifu became a real person. This is too unbearable.
17-Year-Old Beautiful Young Lady: You are hopeless. Just wait for death.
Queen of Ice and Snow: This is my first time seeing such a strange person.
Kal’tsit: It should be quite hard to become Skadi’s friend. If Skadi hears that her new friend said such things…
He Who Knows Fate: I was just saying it, just lamenting a little.
17-Year-Old Beautiful Young Lady: Hah…when can I become an administrator? It is truly difficult to earn these darned evaluation points. I envy Chen Heng.
He Who Knows Fate: Why do you envy me?
17-Year-Old Beautiful Young Lady: You became an administrator out of nowhere. Furthermore, you got that world consciousness’s friendship. That’s 100 evaluation points. How many missions will I have to complete before earning that many?
He Who Knows Fate: Have there really been no similar missions recently?
17-Year-Old Beautiful Young Lady: None at all. I’ve been keeping an eye out for this reward.
Blank Never Loses: Hah…
17-Year-Old Beautiful Young Lady: What’s wrong?
Blank Never Loses: I’m in that game world now. This Tet is so irritating. I said I wouldn’t go, but he still brought me over. Isn’t that just a classic sore loser? Just because I defeated him once, he sent Shiro and me to such an awful place.
[TL Note: Tet is the One True God of Disboard, the world the main characters (Sora and Shiro, together Blank) transmigrated into. Here is more information on Tet: /wiki/Tet.]
Iron Fist Teacher: Don’t you like games? What is bad about a game world?
Blank Never Loses: Are they the same? Reality is a terrible game.
Iron Fist Teacher: There’s nothing bad about going out for a walk. Your body will weaken if you remain at home all the time and hide from sunlight.
Faillen Angel Gabriel: There’s no need to worry about that. Boss has taken quite a few angel feathers from me. The power of holy light protects you.
Lord of the White Night: The power of holy light ignores you.
Faillen Angel Gabriel: …
Blank Never Loses: Alright, that’s enough. It’s time to teach this human protected by the Elementals a bloody lesson.
He Who Knows Fate: Truth be told, when I watched the episode on sapient chess, I found it quite strange. To think a shut-in like Sora could convince the enemy queen with words. Then, the knights rebelled because they could not bear to kill their queen. So what is the relationship between the queen and the knights? I think the crown on the king’s head might be a little green…
[TL Note: In Chinese, wearing a green hat is an expression for getting cuckolded.]
