Chapter 74: The Betrayer
Chapter 74: The Betrayer
[A week after Reylin's visit.]
[Ron34: We need help!]
[Rey Flames Lin: Sec.]
After one of the hero's guild members asked for help, the pyromaniac left a brief message in the guild chat. A few minutes later, the flames rained down on the specters!
He appeared as fast as possible, and black staff spat the flames at unimaginable speed! It was really fast as Reylin paid attention to its weapon skill tree, so the weapon was as strong as common mages.
Reylin himself boosted his stamina and speed, and he threw fire punches at the specters! His punches did no damage, but Reylin summoned fireballs before each strike.
His explosions rang out in the vicinity, and many players still stared at Reylin with disbelief rippling in their eyes.
Of course, those players were from Maya's guild.
She had called her guild members to their guild's land.
However, this land was far away from the Blue Rose Kingdom's capital, and many players faced problems with the specters. The monsters were nimble, and they also possessed no bodies!
Only skills worked on them, or weapons laced in those.
Specters were immune to basic attacks unless the weapon was enchanted.
Their level was also a problem for Maya's guild. No one dared to wander alone in this land as that would be a somewhat suicidal move.
Lioness and Maya's friend, Titiana, had done an excellent job organizing people around. Still, Reylin's presence was what relieved the majority.
His flames never disappointed.
And never was the perfect word!
[You have killed Lv. 43 Ghastly Specter.]
"If specter forces you to move too much, just give up and find another one. Otherwise, you will pull many others toward you," Reylin said, then threw a few more potions to the tank.
The players nodded a few times, then thanked Reylin for his help.
After he went to help another group, the tank opened his lips, "He's surprisingly nice!"
"Yes! I think he stopped shouting while punching as well... I wonder what happened!"
"What if he got a sore throat and stopped? Haha!"
"Haha!"
-
Reylin's mind was full of thoughts. The prevailing thought was to not become another typical high schooler who would like just simp girl after girl to finally get one. He focused on his flames, but the recent thoughts indeed made him calmer.
He fought with his flames howling only.
The user himself was quiet and precise.
Reylin was also used to the specters, so they weren't a challenge anymore.
No one in the Tathum Province could challenge him as of now.
Of course, the existence behind the ghastly mana probably would bring Reylin out of his thoughts.
The Hero Party Guild had two objectives as of now.
The first one was to kill as many specters and find the origin of their mana.
That would help the hero deal with the province's predicament and begin serious land development. It would open so many possibilities and work that the hero was the one working the most.
She also leveled up as much as possible so that she wouldn't have a lot to catch up on later.
The second objective was to help survivors.
Although no other city than the Tathum City functioned, many survivors had hidden from the specters, and they survived through many methods.
One of the methods was, unfortunately, cannibalism.
Maya had learned about it already, and she provided a lot of food to those survivors. She also had a group of players hunt the bears and any similar monsters just for the food source.
And that was how the guild and the pyromaniac operated for more than a week.
Of course, Reylin's life was the most interesting.
That was because girls around him noticed his change.
[The Monk Butler: Young Master! I have finally learned how to cross continents! Due to the Dark Times, the oceans became unstable, and many monsters had taken root here. Those monsters are so high leveled that no one thought of crossing the continents! The long-distance teleportation had long since stopped working for some reason as well... The residents can't properly explain it to me, but that's probably a shameful matter for them.]
[Rey Flames Lin: Alright. Focus on your duties.]
[The Monk Butler: Yes!]
Reylin clicked his tongue, then selected another friend from his list. He began voice chat with Alex Loyalty, the person on the mission to become the king for the Crown.
Both of them talked casually.
Alex was also aware of Reylin's plight as Reylin shared his dilemma with him in that casual talk.
"Madam Crown really made Mr. Reylin go to the wall..." Alex chuckled.
Should Reylin not appear with his girlfriend at the Christmas party, his mother would lose the bet, but that wasn't the problem.
She was sure Reylin would notice the catch and that she knew more than him.
Reylin had to appear with a girlfriend, or his mother would just support his gaming life further with a smug on her face...
Imagining his mother's sneering at him, Reylin felt his stomach twisting as it was him causing his mother to have heart attacks until now.
All in all, Madam Crown just wanted her son to appear at the Christmas party, and she knew that it was the best way to draw him here.
She wouldn't miss that opportunity, and the lady her son paid attention to was an attractive woman as well.
"Haha! Mr. Reylin is still a young man," Alex kept laughing.
"Aren't you young too?" Reylin replied with a sigh.
"Well, I am past Mr. Reylin's age... It's an age where you are quite rebellious and where emotions overrule your reasoning. It's rare to see that in you, but your current plight is quite normal for your age," Alex replied cheerfully, then his voice turned serious, "Would you like to listen about the church?"
"Church?" Reylin asked in a similar tone.
"Yes. There are existences known as The Ascended. They are people who got their own mana, and they wrote the rules onto the world. How people wield and use mana is all because of them. Each ascended has a church after them." Alex explained briefly.
He added, "There are countless theories about the dark times. However, the churches are bothered by one theory; The Betrayer."
"A theory that one of the ascended has betrayed the Faynom World," Reylin said.
"That's right," Alex nodded on the other side, "Nobles believe more and more into that theory."
