God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.

Chapter 558: Devil Hunter.

Cain felt exhilarated...

That feeling a predator experiences as it corners and chases its prey down.

Calling it mere exhilaration was also not accurate. It was far more than a mere feeling or emotion.

Right now, his state of mind has changed. Even his focus was completely centered on the two hulking, giant Devils.

His feet hit the ground lightly.

A puff of cold air escaped from his lungs.

Chanting under his breath, two golden chains were summoned into existence, before wrapping around his arms.

The chains moved like they had life, wrapping themselves around a tall building.

With a light tug, he sent his own body flying through the sky...

Smashing through the windows, the first thing to greet him were a set of dark, venomous teeth.

"Fuck!" Cain cursed as he was bitted on the shoulder by the terrifying Devil. This one was a {Silent Hunter}. A grotesque looking Devil with minimal intelligence, but with equally terrifying abilities.

While they didn't seem like much the {Silent Hunters} were deadly creatures in their own right.

Unable to even see or notice the creature before it was too late, Cain earned himself a nasty bite across his forearm.

The arm sizzled as it burned with the terrifying acidic spit, inducing a lot of pain. However, this wasn't enough to slow him down.

Raising his hand, a hiltless, star-tipped blade appeared in his clenched fist.

Without a whimper, he stabbed down, piercing the {Silent Hunter} in the head, ending its life in the blink of an eye.

Drawing his chains back, Cain sucked in a deep breath.

His eyes steeled over as he stared at the numerous distortions in the space around him. This meant he was currently surrounded. Someone with worse perception than him would be doomed in a situation like this.

However, his high perception stat allowed his to see at least, the faintest ripples these creatures caused in their surroundings.

A slight chuckle escaped from Cain's mouth. The chuckle slowly morphed into a grin. He dropped the corpse of the dead {Silent Hunter} to the ground. Slightly shaking his wrists, the chains wrapped around his forearm whipped around violently.

At the end of the chains, two of the hiltless, star-tipped blades floating around him attached themselves.

They slowly morphed into wide, curved sabers filled with glowing inscriptions.

Cracking his neck, Cain stepped forward...

And in the next moment, he burst into action.

Within the building, there were numerous appliances and furniture from the old world. Sofas, wooden desks and chairs.

Both them, and the Devils dwelling within were torn asunder by the sharp blades. Rancid blood flowed across the ground as Cain slaughtered the {Silent Hunters} until nothing was left.

Once the deed was done, he ran at full force, jumping out the building at full force.

Reavling his body in the open sky, a swarm of {Sky Devils} swarmed him, their serated claws and deadly venomous fangs laced with malice targeted at him.

With a chilling calm, he swung him hands, and the chained blades twirled, slicing off heads and wings. One {Sky Devils} tried to run away, but Cain deftly threw his blades into the creature's back.

While the stabbing didn't kill the creature outright, it put it in a lot of pain. The creature tried to fly away again, pulling Cain along.

The rest of the swarm began chasing behind. Suddenly, a thick sense of danger filled him as the threat of death enveloped him.

'Crap!' Since he was mid air, it would be difficult to dodge anything thrown his way.

So he activated {Golden Halo}.

The second he did, something smashing into it, tearing its shields apart in an instant.

Another projectile came, smashing the head of the {Sky Devils} he was taking a lift from.

Both him, and the now lifeless corpse were sent falling towards the ground.

Now slightly panicked, Cain pulled his chains out of the back of the creature.

The mana within him churned as he threw the chain forward, extending its reach until its smashed into the side of a building.

Without making sure of its security, Cain shifted his center of gravity, allowing his body to follow a curved path around the building.

The sound of bullets whizzing past his ears put a terrible fear in him. He could tell that even one of these bullets were more than enough to wound him.

Dismissing the chains, Cain let his body fly a distance. However, one of the bullets shot by then unknown Devils managed to get him in the arm just before he reached the ground.

Rolling onto the ground, he managed to hide behind a building.

'Shit! That was close.'

All this daredevil activities was making him rethink his life choices. However, it was necessary. He needed to make sure their attention was on him so the others would be able to do whatever they needed to get done.

They had to wipe out every single Devil here, leaving none alive...

'The wound isn't closing.'

Cain quickly determined the most dangerous Devils he would be having to watch out for.

Not even a few seconds later, he heard the sounds of heavy feet hitting the ground. Staring at the large moon looming in the sky, Cain took in a deep breath.

He quickly summoned {Gihenai}. A second later, dozens of {Blade Devils} charged at him. These ones looked far more dangerous than the ones he had fought back then.

Their blades were longer, their shell thicker, and the light of intelligence in their eyes made him know they wouldn't be easy to get rid of.

But Cain has grown as well. He was far more dangerous than he had been back then.

And so, he charged forward...

"Spill blood, human!"

A large {Blade Devil} charged for, smashing its large forearm blade down towards his head.

With a slight movement of his feet, Cain dodged a d moved in closer to the Devil.

The Devil tried t take a few steps back, but it was already too late as Cain had already closed the distance.

Blue flames ignited all over Cain's body, and slight sparkles of charged electric power washed over him as he activated the Lightning Enchantment of {Burning Spirit}.

His speed immediately shot through the roof as he landed a series of blows to the Devil's midsection in a fraction of a second.

Those that were slower would only be able to see Cain's slight movements, and perhaps an after image before watched, in gruesome terror, as the abdominal region of the Devil exploded into a macabre rain of viscera, blood, and organs.

This time, the role of the Hunter and the Hunter was really reversed.

Dashing forward at speeds that made the ground shatter, Cain swung his fists violently, crashing through the Devil's at frightening speed.

This didn't mean the Devils were helpless. In a matter of seconds, he was already covered in all sorts of bleeding wounds; some deep, some shallow.

To make things worse, they also weren't healing as fast as he would like, even when {Blood Restitution} was active.

Spitting a mouthful of blood out, Cain let out a grunt as he retreated backwards. The floor was littered with the corpses of so many Devils. And yet, they continued forward, unfazed.

Devils were tenacious by nature, but what really made them frightening, was their lack of fear for death. This was because a Devil never truly died. They simply went on a journey through Reol, the Othershore...

Once they made their journey, they would be reborn, beginning their life anew.

It was both a blessing and a curse...

Every Devil was thousands of years old, but their bodies were young everytime they arrived upon a new world to devour.

Staring at the much larger {Blade Devil} standing before him, Cain began rethinking his life choices.

Right now, he was drenched in blood. His wounds were chaffing, giving him intense pain.

A soft light shine on his hand as he summoned an HP regen potion from his inventory. Pulling the cap off the bottle with his teeth, Cain chugged the entire thing in a single gulp.

The large {Blade Devil} stared at Cain as he did this, its eyes never leaving him.

While the Devil wasn't quite a Tier 1 creature, it was still on the precipice. As such, it was a bit harder to deal with than the others.

Cain was currently covered with wounds, and he has burned through a lot of stamina, fighting for close to an hour now.

Cain let out a sigh as he returned the empty potion bottle to his inventory.

The Devil suddenly spoke,

"This is futile, human. Your struggles, your efforts... All of it, it doesn't matter. You cannot win."

Cain snorted as he clenched his fists. Green flames ignited across the surface of the gauntlets,

"That isn't for you to decide, is it?"

The {Blade Devil} took its stance, pointing its deadly forelimbs at him. It's eyes burned with revelry and mockery,

"You have no idea, human. This world is doomed to fall. There is no salvation, only death and damnation."

Cain frowned, "I've just realized this, but you Devils really do talk a lot."

Done with the words, Cain dashed forward, clashing with the {Blade Devil}. A shockwave spread out as a result, flattening a nearby building.

Cain gritted his teeth, pushing down on the Devil with all him might.

Under the weight of his power, the Devil's blades forelimbs buckled, and with fists filled with a hunger for blood, Cain smashed the head of the Devil in, ending its life...

Sucking in a deep breath, Cain turned, already prepared to slaughter the next wave of Devils...
