Chapter 268 Academy Life 5
"Wow… This girl… She is really brave…" One of the girls spoke inside the classroom, looking at the scene unfolding before their eyes.
"Yeah… I never thought she would be the one talking to him." Another answered her friend. The students around them were equally attracted by the unexpected interaction.
Yet, amidst the whispers and hushed conversations, a tinge of resentment lingered in the hearts of some. Deep down, they couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. "I should have been the one to talk to him," they quietly lamented.
In a sense, that was the basic human behavior…. to view those beneath them with a sense of superiority.
This especially applied to that introverted girl who didn't talk too much…. Since no one would prefer such a girl, right?
Thus, some girls had this weird thought in their hearts…. While others were encouraged by the boldness of the girl.
"Wait a second." A high-pitched voice entered the ears of the bystanders as one of the girls watching the scene spoke.
"Hmm?" Hearing this, Callius turned his head as he locked his eyes with the girl. Those crimson and piercing eyes that were pressuring Elara instantly turned to the girl, gazing into her soul.
"Can you partner with me?" The girl asked, smiling happily. "I am pretty sure I can do a lot better job than this girl." He continued her words while pointing out her finger towards Elara. "She is just a nobody." As she spoke her words, some gasps could be heard from the surroundings. "By the way, my na-"
However, her words were abruptly halted by a raised hand, a gesture demanding silence.
A chill permeated the room as the once-softened gaze of Callius hardened, "Stop." As a cold voice echoed inside the room, his voice cut through the air like a sharp blade.
"Huh?" The girl, taken aback by the sudden change, turned her wide-eyed gaze toward the source of the chilling command.
'It seems just one interaction is enough to make some forget who I am.' He thought as he watched the girl with heavy ornaments hanging all over her body.
Of course, that was bound to happen since humans don't necessarily like to live under constant pressure, either. However, that also doesn't mean every human being will behave like that. This girl was an exception.
An exception to be taken care of.
"This is enough," He said with a tone that was serious. "I accepted her offer, that's it. Don't waste my time no more." With those words, he turned his back, walking out of the class.
The girl was left inside the classroom with all eyes pointing towards herself, as she couldn't believe what had just happened.
'I was rejected? He chose her?' A lot of thought filled her heart, but one emotion reigned supreme.
It was the feeling of shame.
/TAP/
And after a second, Elara followed Callius and left the classroom, instantly grabbing her backpack.
Though, for some eyes, her preparedness didn't miss their eye.
Especially for the girl that was close to Callius, as her green eyes watched the departing figure intently.
'What a vixen.' She thought, as for her, the acting didn't miss her eye. Since she was someone with good eyes….

In a way, what I did may not be too necessary, at least for some.
But, for me, I think it was a normal response, considering the way she had tried to push herself above and gain others' attention was to pull some other person down.
I am not saying what she did was wrong or anything. It is just, as I always said, if you want to step on someone, you need to be ready to step on as well.
Also, I was a bit annoyed; seeing the girl with those shiny ornaments who didn't have any idea of studying was trying to waste my time.
As I was walking toward the class, I felt a subtle presence behind me.
'…. She is definitely a spy.' I thought. 'This whole situation seems contrived, doesn't it? Was she planning to use her wind affinity as leverage if I pushed her further? How cunning, Princess.'
Elara had a wind affinity which was the subject given to me. And considering the affinity given to her was fire, on top of her being a spy….
The odds are not that high for this to happen.
In any case, now she was giving a subtle presence behind me. However, one thing was certain. An assassin that works with a princess would not normally hide her presence this sloppy.
'Your aim is to show me that you are trying to hide your presence thanks to your personality but failing to do so.' I thought as I observed the sensation.
The presence she was leaking was just enough to make me feel like she was doing her best to hide her presence but failing to do so.
At least, if I was a 2-star knight, just as the records were saying. Which, in fact, I was not. Thus, for me, the masking of her presence was nothing but a shallow veil.
'However, she definitely knows how to manipulate those little details. Let's play along.'
With that thought, I turned my head toward my back. "I can feel you." As my words reached her ears, she pretended to flinch.
"S-sorry." With a timid voice, she responded, trying to make me feel relaxed.
"It is fine," I said as I slowed down my steps. "Do you have free time today, or do you wish to meet later?" I asked. 'Let's see. Will you act on your own, or will you report to your master?'
"I-I am free afternoon." She replied, not meeting my gaze.
'So, you will report.' I thought. 'But, I won't give you much time, though.' "Then, we will meet at the entrance around the three." As I said those words, she flinched for a second.
Playing the timid girl also had its own negative sides. If you want to keep your role, you can't resist when someone comes this pushy, after all.
"C-can we do it later?" She tried to ask, looking at my eyes with a pleading look.
"No. I am bust in the evening." I said, making up an excuse….
