Chapter 176 176 – The Historic Moment
I spent two weeks in Miredow, the former capital of my region that used to be called Ascaind. We have to take care of many things to basically form a new government, even though many of its parts still use the same people.
"Are you ready, my love?" I went to Velvet in our room when we stayed here. She was looking at the clear sky through the window.
"Well…. Let's go, then." That woman turned around to face me, making her long white dress flutter for a second.
Seeing her slightly stiff gesture, I asked again. "Are you really not willing to come to your village before leaving? We still have plenty of time."
She sighed and sat on the edge of the bed. "I've written a letter to my mother, and I've been by Candice's side before I sent her home. Well, I'm not ready yet to meet them again, my lord."
I was silent, watching her figure. Her black hair is now in a bun, her lips are adorned with red, her cheeks have been made rosier by makeup, and the area around her eyes has been painted over for her to look prettier.
Those things are not to my taste because I prefer a natural look. However, people think this is important at a wedding.
"Ah." She put on a smile. "Sorry, I just ruined this beautiful day."
I shrugged, then sat beside her. "It's okay. You can't just control your feelings, can you?
"Sorry…."
"Just say what's on your mind." I tapped her open shoulder.
She closed her eyes. "My mom will most likely be disappointed by this. After meeting my father, she became a devout nun…. I'm sure I can muster up the courage to meet her again. I just need time."
"Then what about Candice?"
It took a few moments before she finally answered. "I have crushed Candice's dream…. She had always wanted to become a famous witch…. You know why she never got that title, even though her magic ability is extraordinary?"
"Because her ability is considered unnatural, this country's magic institute thinks she doesn't deserve that title." My mouth let out a bitter chuckle. "Very ironic, even though it was the government of this country that made her like that."
"And do you know why the government wants someone who can suppress me if I go berserk?"
I paused for a moment, thinking. "I don't know, even though they consider you the most sacred person. They shouldn't believe that you can destroy... Maybe because they're afraid of you?"
"Because I happen to be a descendant of a dragon." She looked at her palm. "Even though it's rare, there have been several times in history when a dragon went berserk and destroyed a settlement... Maybe it would be better if I weren't a dragon and a prophet. Well, but without this power, I can't help you, my lord. That's why I only split it in half for you.""
We both then fell silent. I'm more determined to make this woman happy.
Velvet wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. "We'll continue this conversation later. It's a big day for all of us."
I widened my smile when she touched my formal black outfit.
"You are very handsome in this dress, my lord." She smiled too.
"Thanks. You also look magnificent." I keep looking at her, a warrior, dancer, prophet, and this time she will be my wife.
***
We purposely did the wedding at my base first before doing the second at Miredow. My subordinates who have been with me long enough deserve to see this historic day before anyone else. The event in the capital of the former nation of Ascaind was merely a formality to inform the general public.
What we do at my base is the real deal.
Accompanied by soft music from an orchestra from Silkdale city, I walked down a long red carpet with Velvet linking her hand to mine.
On my left side, I can find my women among my underlings. Those women wore dresses in their own favorite colors. Xenora in black, Emily in mauve, Lexi in moss green, and Ayre in yellow.
They all smiled at me. Xenora even smiled the biggest smile, even though she had been against this marriage before.
Well, I hope those women's smiles are genuine and they truly approve of my marriage. Having many women is something complicated, after all.
Meanwhile, my left side is filled with humans, from representatives of Honeywich village to Karl and Charlia from Silkdale city.
Those people are less than a hundred, very different from the number of my subordinates in this place. Not all those demons had come because space was limited, but their number was probably close to a thousand.
Not that I'm reluctant to invite more of my human allies. I want this wedding ceremony to be quieter with fewer people.
Let the excitement happen at the second party in Miredow later.
Velvet and I stopped before my throne. Father Jude was waiting there. The old man smiled and looked younger than usual.
"Well, I'm not the leader of the Lyran religion anymore." He chuckled. "So, I don't know what to say, but I will try my best."
The music stops altogether. Velvet and I then faced each other, widening our smiles.
Father Jude cleared his throat, then looked at me. "The great lord Vorn, the supreme leader of the empire of Vorn, the one who will rule this world. I'm asking you. Do you accept this woman in front of you to be your wife, and the two of you will take care of each other through joy and sorrow?"
"I do," I answered with full of confidence.
Father Jude then turned to Velvet. "And as for you, Velvet Byrne, the great warrior, a woman with dragon blood in her veins. I want to ask you. Are you willing to take an oath from this man, your husband to be?"
"I do." She also answered without hesitation.
Applause erupted, and several magicians threw white balls of light into the ceiling. Those balls exploded and dropped countless glittering beads.
The music played again, and Xenora stepped out into the middle of the long red carpet amidst twinkling rain. She took a deep breath and started singing.
"Impossibility is just an illusion."
"Here, the two sides have come together."
"Making the world beautiful."
"They are indeed different."
"However, their hearts have become one."
"That bond will not be broken."
"Even though the biggest disaster threatens."
"They will stay strong, for the sake of the world..."
Damn. When Xenora said she would make a song, I didn't expect the melody and lyrics to be this beautiful. My heart was touched to hear the succubus singing.
"Now is the time for you two to ordain yourselves as husband and wife." Father Jude spoke again, this time with an even bigger smile.
I looked into Velvet's eyes, ensuring this wasn't an illusion. After a few seconds of silence, we linked our lips, triggering happy cheers from the audience.
