Chapter 148 148 – Cold Truth

And finally, she thrust her sword into me. I ducked with that strike. Then, a barrage of stab attacks came at me.

I kicked her leg, forcing her to fall. As I was about to continue my attacks, she kept trying to stab at me from all sides.

It's impressive she can make attacks like that while lying down.

She then rolled backward, making her stand up again. Even a move like that is full of grace when done by her.

Now it's my turn to attack. I gave a combination of punches and kicks. And again, she made her evasive moves also look like a dance. The way she ducks, arches her body, or jumps in various directions is pleasing to the eye.

She counterattacked, and I caught her blade using the hand-heating skill I had just got. Yes, my hand glows orange like embers, exactly like my opponent's weapon.

She gasped hard, froze for a second, then snapped. "How could you do something like that!?"

I lowered the weapon. She tried to fight back, but her strength was below mine.

"I'll tell you when you're by my side." After saying that, I kicked her in the stomach.

She fell backward, and I threw away the sword still in my hand. As I approached her, that woman did a combination kick while lying down.

However, her attack this time was slower and not steady as before. I can shake it all off and sit on her stomach.

Then, I caught both of her hands, pressing them to stick to the snowy ground.

"Could you be quiet for a moment, my love?" I chuckled. "I enjoyed fighting you, but it would be more interesting if we did something else."

Her mouth made a sound like a growl. And slowly but surely, she was able to raise her hand, even though it made her tremble.

Even though I've used all my strength.

"Awesome." I'm getting excited. "It turns out that you are hiding a formidable power! Look, your strength is on par with a demon lord!"

I can't imagine having her by my side. We will definitely be unstoppable.

She forced me to stand up. Our helmeted faces are now closer. And I banged my forehead against hers.

She remained where she was. I did that strike again on her, and not just once. The sound of metal clashing filled the quiet village.

On the umpteenth hit, she starts staggering. It seems my strikes have messed up her head.

I released my grip on her hand, lifted her body, then threw her into a house. Her body hit the window of the building until it shattered.

I went in there and asked. "Do you know why the buildings here are empty? I think the two human messengers have already informed you."

She staggered more as she stood up. It seemed my attacks had taken a toll on her, and she was acting tough.

"Now I ask again." I continued when I got close enough to her. "What will you do to save the people who were chased out? Ask them to negotiate with the nobleman who wants to make this place a park? Any commoner who tries to talk to the nobleman will be beaten…."

She tried to punch me, but I could dodge and kick her in the stomach until she fell.

"Neither noblemen nor high-ranking officials care." I let out a bitter chuckle. "Those people are desperate, and I came up with a solution! Yes, the prick nobleman and a few of his men died, but hundreds of villagers are alive!"

She tried to get up for the umpteenth time, and I kicked her in the head, forcing her to fall again.

"Answer me!!!" I screamed at her. "You are a prophet! You are people's hope! What is your solution so they can get out of that situation!?"

"I will talk to the nobleman not to destroy this village!" Finally, she answered.

"I ask again. Aren't there any high-ranking people in your country as evil as that nobleman!?" I replied more fiercely. "What did you do to those people who were wronged by those people!? How many times have you negotiated and succeeded!?"

"Arcaind country doesn't…."

"If you think that there is no such thing in your country, it means that you are stupid or ignorant or don't even care." I looked at her, who was still sitting. She should still be able to stand, but it seems my words made her freeze. "You only fought obvious evil without thinking of your own people. You think that's a holy deed, huh? Trust me, prophet. Your role is very small in this world."

Finally, she was about to stand up, but I punched her head until her helmet came off, then pushed her until she fell for the umpteenth time. Then I stepped on her chest, forcing her unable to stand up again.

"And I'm different, Velvet Byrne." I hissed. "I will make a fairer world. Yes, I do it because I want everyone to adore me. I want them to keep calling my name. I want to rule this world. But don't worry about that. What matters is that people are happy, right?"

Her tears started to flow. With trembling lips, she began to chant a prayer. "Oh, my God. Save me from the deceptions of beings who will bring darkness to this world…."

"Oh, come on." I laughed out loud. "I remember my first human comrade. He also prayed in front of me when I gave him the truth. And now he is so loyal to me!"

I kept laughing, accompanied by her sobs. Good, she is getting broken, so she can't fight me anymore.

I have destroyed her spirit. What would happen if I showed her other things?

"Come on, insult me again, prophet." I challenged her. "Tell me what I did was wrong. Say that saving hundreds of people is wrong!"

"You have killed that nobleman!" She sounded increasingly desperate.

"I killed an evil being!" I pressed my feet harder to her chest. "It's just that he's a human, not a demon!"

"Humans can change…." She choked up because her tears were flowing more and more.

I was satisfied to feel the aura of despair fill her face. "And you don't believe demons can't change for the better? Why are you so discriminating, oh great prophet? You are supposed to be the best of the best, right?"

"I-I won't be swayed by your tricks…."

I grabbed her by the neck before she finished speaking. "Don't worry, I won't kill you."

She tried to fight back, but strangely her strength was not as strong as before. Could this be because her mental state has been so messed up?

It seems so.

The prophet's eyes rolled back, her face turned blue, then her mouth opened slightly and drooled. Not long after, her hands drooped weakly to the wooden floor.
