Chapter 168 - Another Game
A different result was actually presented before everyone else now that Mr. Nian has already become serious.
Unlike before that he was checkmated in less than five moves, Mr. Nian actually managed to last until the seventh.
"Fuck! How can you be so good at this? Did you really just learn the game right now? Are you messing with me?"
Mr. Nian cursed out loud after he was defeated in seven moves. What was even more frustrating was that the piece that checked him was the knight piece, a piece that he thought as the most useless of all the chess pieces as it always moves irregularly.
"Yes, I learned it just now!" Ban replied calmly.
He really just learned the game earlier, of course, not in an orthodox way.
"I can't accept this, again!" Mr. Nian frustratingly said as he arranged the chess pieces again.
He did not sense any lie from Leon earlier so he knew that it was really his first time this game today.
It was no longer an issue whether he would give another information for free or not. It was now a matter of reclaiming his dignity.
He was known as the genius chess master of the city, not only was he the one who brought the game here, he was also one of the players that could not just be defeated.
'How could a complete noob defeat me? Hell no, I must take revenge!' He thought firmly as he took the white side this time and made a move using the knight piece.
And after a few minutes, Mr. Nian clutched his head as he screamed in frustration.
"Shit, again!"
The calm and confident Mr. Nian earlier was already gone. It was now replaced with the stressed out Mr. Nian.
Joana could not help but let out a giggle seeing Mr. Nian's frustrated appearance. She recalled that she also experienced the same years ago when she was playing chess with Mr. Nian.
She felt elated as she felt that she finally managed to take her revenge from the grudge he started back then. She felt refreshed as she continued to chuckle in his misery.
At the same time, she could not help but admire Leon once more. Not only was he knowledgeable in Monsters and Beasts related stuff, it seems that he was also knowledgeable and was even a genius in certain aspects as well.
She suddenly grew curious about his real appearance behind that red mask.
'He must be a handsome man in his late twenties with a chiseled and smooth face.' Joana thought of her ideal guy and could not help but imagine Leon's appearance as something like that as well.
A slight blush appeared on her cheek as she thought about that.
"Mr. Nian, I already won four times," Ban reminded him of his words earlier.
Mr. Nian set the rules to a best of seven so that Ban would not feel indignant about his loss.
However, it seems that it was actually Mr. Nian who was feeling indignant about his loss now.
Mr. Nian was taken aback by his words and he suddenly felt embarrassed thinking about the words he said earlier.
'Damn, why did I even say that?'
"Alright, let's play another match and I will give you another information of your choice for free," Mr. Nian gritted his teeth as he arranged the chess pieces again, not even waiting for Leon's confirmation.
"Let's play a best of seven again this time, no, a best of eleven, let's play a best of eleven. The first to win six times will win," Mr. Nian said after he made the first move.
Ban pondered about and thought that he should just take this opportunity to obtain more valuable information.
Ban nodded his head as he moved his knight piece forward.
Some time later, Mr. Nian stood up from his seat and turned his back towards them. A tear rolled down from the corner of his eyes and he immediately wiped it silently lest Leon and Joana would see it.
He felt that he had aged considerably in a matter of minutes after playing chess with Leon. He could not even surpass ten moves before he would be defeated by him mercilessly.
There was no mercy at all. His fragile heart was crushed by Leon. He could only turn around and let the tear that has been forming at the corner of his eyes earlier roll down. He turned around and wiped the tear so that no one would see it.
Woof!
Mr. Nian almost jumped back in fright upon recalling that his mountain dog was still there.
Mr. Nian let out a strange smile and caressed the mane of the dog while saying, "I'll feed you twice the normal amount of your favorite food tonight…"
He hurriedly said, afraid that his mountain dog would tell the others that he cried after losing a game of chess that he was so quite proud of.
He was so afraid that he forgot that a summon would actually not betray their owner as long as they don't mistreat it.
Woof!
It seems that the mountain dog was satisfied by the offer as it hurriedly laid in the ground again, acting as if it saw nothing.
"Good!"
At the same moment, at the corner of his eyes, Mr. Nian suddenly saw a small figure below the door.
It was his nephew and he was staring at Mr. Nian with a bewildered expression.
It seems that he just saw a terrifying secret.
The kid wanted to run away immediately but the voice of Mr. Nian forced him to stop.
"Oi kid, come here… Your punishment is now void, be a good kid in the future alright?"
Mr. Nian suddenly said, causing the kid to be taken by surprise. However, he dared not to go against Mr. Nian's words as he was afraid of getting punished again. And from his uncle's expression, the kid knew that he just didn't want him to spread the word that he saw him crying.
"Come here and greet your uncle Leon and aunt Joana!"
