Training others(2)
This was a personality issue and not something I could try and fix in such a short amount of time. Not that I would try anyway since I have my own personality issues to deal with before bothering with someone elses. I was much better than I was when I first came to this world but I still had trouble with more everyday emotions and mostly just existed in a state of blankness. I had drive and ambition that pushed me and my team for improvement but otherwise I felt little at any given time.-
The only time I felt any emotions was when interacting with my team or someone else or if I encounter something exciting. Unfortunately my aura was improving constantly with practice which showed that this was actually just my natural state of mind. Tearing my thoughts away from my own flaws I watched the interaction between these three and these pokemon. After getting ignored most of the pokemon went over to Brendan and May to mooch food off of them while avoiding me and Hades. Can't say I blame them as we were not the friendliest looking individuals which went triple for Hades who was pretty bloodthirsty at any moment in time.-
The next day when all of my trainees had gathered I explained the next piece of training. "Now who here knows how to forage?" I asked calmly. May raised her hand with a bright smile and I nodded. "In that case you don't need this next piece of training and I'll have you help me in teaching these two." I said and she nodded eager to show off. "You'll forgive me if this sounds presumptuous but I had thought you would be training us as trainers but so far you haven't taught us a single thing involving our pokemon." Gregory said clearly taking issue with my lesson plan.-
"I am training you as trainers, perhaps you've failed to notice but both the last thing i taught you and this new one I am going to teach you directly help you in the wild. Training pokemon is a very resource intensive process if you have not noticed and foraging is an easy method to offset some of that cost. The wilds are full of food, medicines and materials that you can sell or use to feed and create better opportunities for your team even if you have no money on hand."-
"If that doesn't seem like something worth knowing as a trainer than by all means do try and give me a better example." I said sternly while staring the guy down. Gregory frowned and looked like he wanted to argue but also like he did in fact see the value in what I was planning to teach and remained silent. "Now that we got that out of the way follow me." I said calmly as I led the way into the nearby forest.-
"Even so close to a village you can find resources to harvest like this snakeroot plant that can be identified by these leaves that curl naturally to appear like a snakes head. This plant in particular is used as painkillers due to it's mild numbing paralytic properties." I said pointing at a plant. I then showed Brendan and Gregory how to harvest underground plants without damaging them before handing out a common copy of native plants in Hoenn to all of them and having May show them how to harvest mushrooms and even how to identify places they might be.-
Using my x-ray vision I quickly spotted a leaf stone that was nearby and took over teaching again to show them how to identify areas that had the type stones based on the surroundings. The leaf stone wasn't even grade one and thus not worth harvesting but made for a good example. In this case the rich grass type energy in the stone caused the grass and other plants near it to grow disproportionately to the other plants nearby. This got Gregory interested in the topic finally since he clearly couldn't care less before now. I get enthusiasm for pokemon training but he was a bit too focused on things directly involved in the process.-
It was an unsustainable way of doing it as you simply couldn't excel at training without other auxiliary subjects getting involved. Resource management, finance, diplomacy and several other subjects came up at higher levels of training that even I and the pokemon champions had to deal with. While actual training consumed most of my time I still had to put focus elsewhere as well. Gregory didn't seem to want to do this which was bound to bite him in the ass sooner or later.-
May and Brendan on the other hand were very serious about learning what I was teaching as they no doubt were starting to realize that pure training wasn't a viable route and thus could appreciate me giving them help with other subjects to ease their journey. If I had more time I was likely to also teach basic field medical skills as well for their pokemon so they could better train without injuring their pokemon more than necessary. For what I had though I was only going to be training them in three ways, spatial awareness, foraging and move mastery. The first two were trainings for the trainers benefit while the last was purely for the pokemons. -
I spent the next three days showing them how to find various resources in the wilds and even May seemed to learn during the process despite her already knowing how to forage pretty well. Gregory was by far the worst at it by the last day since he simply lacked any interest in the subject beyond the stuff he could use to train his pokemon better. Brendan had picked it up easily and even showed a bit of a green thumb about plants that was rather impressive.-
For the final week Gregory finally found something he felt was worth his time as I showed them a better way to train moves than the standard use it till you master it method. It wasn't my method of mastering type energy first before focusing on moves but it had elements of it in there. The gist of the training method was that rather than simply using the move exactly like it called for you try and understand the core parts of the move and then slightly alter them. The best example i showed them was when I had Brendans Machamp try and focus a thunder punch on it's foot rather than it's fist.-
The core of thunder punch was covering the fist in electric type energy so in theory one should be able to do the same with nearly any part of the body as well. Sure enough after failing because of how out of place it felt the Machamp did in fact succeed which opened a whole bunch of possibilities for move mastery. Speaking of that Machamp I had shown Brendan my idea of using the pokemons innate martial arts prowess in move use and battle.
