Volume 3 Chapter 40: Board, Don’t Screw Me Over Now!
Keith's group headed to the hall. And they were shocked by the grandness and size. The venue was sparkling; it was bright like a jewel!
"This looks amazing,"
"We're going to be using this from now on,"
"Keith, come on. Stop acting like a sour lemon," Carolyn nudged Keith's back. There were two people who weren't focused on the venue.
Keith scoffed, "You can only say that because that old geezer didn't put more work on you."
Cadmus made the test extra hard because he was in it! That was something he knew for sure!
"Anyways, look at the top. Your family is talking with mine," Keith looked up. The auditorium was split into two sections. There were seats for the parents to sit at the top. He saw William and Julius's family talking with one another.
"..." Leon and Laura waved their hands. Keith smiled as he waved back at the two.
"Are those your siblings?"
"Mmhmm,"
"They're cute,"
"You know it," Keith nodded. They were all waiting for Cadmus to come up. But the people who came up were wearing the same uniform as him.
"Good morning, Everyone. I'm the student council president," She started to talk. But Keith wasn't focused. He zoned out. After she had finished her speech, another person came up to give a speech.
There were some others before Cadmus got on the podium.
"Thank you for coming here today. And it seemed this year's batch of students are amazing," Cadmus commented. But he also added,
"There's also someone I'm interested in this batch as well,"
"Huh?"
"Who would that be?"
"A student who could make the principal interested? Who is this person?!" Everyone's ears perked when they heard that.
What is he saying?! Keith blinked a few times before he turned to Sohma, who had a constricted expression! That was not part of the script! And Cadmus continued,
"This student is extraordinary. I will say he is the strongest student in this whole academy."
"..." The expression on everyone's face changed in an instant. The strongest student? The kid was still a freshman. How could he be the strongest?
"Who is it?" Everyone was too curious about who this person was! The way he said it made it hard not to.
"Now I'm curious who the principal is talking about," Sarah remarked. The strongest student. Who wouldn't be curious about this?
"Whoever he chooses would be in the spotlight. And it's a bad one," Gabriel sighed.
"Hmm?" Jack and Sarah tilted their heads.
"It's like having a walking target on your back," Gabriel explained.
"Who do you think it is?" Carolyn had a mischievous grin as she stared at Keith. Keith's expression was indescribable right now. That was because he knew who Cadmus was talking about.
It was too easy to figure out who this person was. Please, let it be someone else.
However, Keith hoped it wasn't him he was talking about.
While Cadmus continued his speech, he added, "Also, this year's S-class will be interesting!" S-class. That was the highest grade. It represented the best students of the year.
"What class is everyone in?" Keith turned to the four,
"I got S-class," Carolyn answered with a proud smile.
"S as well," Gabriel smiled.
"The two of us got B," Jack and Sarah answered.
"I guess the three of us are in the same class," Gabriel and Carolyn are both in S class. Jack and Sarah were in B-class.
"Aww, I wanted to be in the same class as Keith," Sarah frowned.
"I think we have joint classes together," There were some classes where all of their classes had to do together.
"Yeah," Carolyn added.
"And here are the top students in our grade!" Cadmus stated as a giant chart appeared behind him!
"Huh?!"
"He's showing it?!"
Keith listened to everyone around. He looked at his group, "I take it that this isn't a normal event?"
"Principal Cadmus really does the strangest things," Gabriel shook his head.
Carolyn laughed, "I think it's because of one student he's interested in,"
"..." Keith said nothing. The only thing he could do was to pray. Don't screw me over.
"The top 50 are shown right now!" Cadmus stated with an excited look on his face.
One by one, the students who were in the top 50 were shown. Keith and the rest looked at it,
"Your names haven't shown up,"
"Guess we're in the top 25," Keith stated. And it was only in the top 10 did their names started to show,
"Oh! I'm number 10!" Carolyn clapped her hands.
"Good job,"
"As expected of a princess." The other students stared at her.
"What about the others?"
Nine was someone he didn't know. But eight was Gabriel.
"Good job, Gabriel."
"It was nothing," Gabriel grinned, "So I'm guessing your rank should be top five?"
"I think that's a little too much," Keith chuckled.
"Your name is the only one that hasn't been shown." Gabriel noticed it. There was no way Keith was lower than him.
He was stronger than him.
Seven, six, and five. Those spots were not Keith.
"Keith! You're in the top three!" Carolyn shook Keith's shoulders.
"...I see." Dear god, no.
He continued to watch the names show up. And what happened was Keith was the last one.
