Volume 3 Chapter 19: Strangest Ideas

"I'm going to launch us upwards," Keith explained. That was the plan he came up with.

"How can we do that?" Gabriel found his plan interesting. But how were they going to do it?

"We'll use wind magic to propel ourselves upwards."

"But magic doesn't work," Gabriel stated.

Keith shook his head, "It's not that it doesn't work. It will only last five seconds before we have to cast it again." His earth stairs lasted a few seconds before they broke.

"That's why we need to propel ourselves upwards with wind magic continuously."

"That's an interesting idea," Gabriel laughed.

"You know how to use wind magic?"

"Mmhmm," Gabriel nodded.

"Let's go!" Like that, Gabriel made his move as he jumped off the ledge! It was a quick and sudden move.

"Do these guys have a death wish?!"

"Why are they so stupid?!"

It was like the two of them were playing a game! How could they jump off the stairs they made?! But Gabriel made his move as he used wind magic! It launched him even higher!

"Now!" Gabriel shouted as he pulled the chains! Keith got launched up as well!

And he quickly created an earth slab! Without a thought, he pulled on the rope and flung Gabriel higher. Five seconds was enough for Keith to launch Gabriel even higher in the air!

The two were going up like that?! Everyone was staring in shock at how fast they went.

….

"Hah," Cadmus and the two couldn't help but chuckle as they stared at the scene.

"See. Keith's the type to think of crazy ideas like that,"

Aidiun thought, "These kids are smart and daring at the same time," The usual way was to continuously cast the magic to go higher. But that would mean it would take someone with a lot of mana.

However, the two used a different way to get to the top. It was the same method but faster.

"So that's why he jumped down in the beginning," Aidiun was confused as to why Keith would jump down like that. But he was testing the elasticity of the chain. He was using that to his advantage.

"They're going to reach the top soon," Sohma noted as he saw how high they were. It wouldn't take long before they reached the top.

...

"We made it!" Keith shouted as the two had reached the top! It was incredible.

Keith and Gabriel were the first people to get to the top,

"Good job, you two." Aidiun appeared before them.

"Mmhmmm," "What do we need to do now, Proctor?" Gabriel questioned.

"There's nothing you need to do. You have to wait for the rest of the contestants to come up,"

"Understood," Like that, the two of them sat on the ground and waited for the time to pass. It didn't take long before another pair had come up. It was a pair of elves.

One of the elves had beautiful platinum blond hair and light green eyes.

"Hello," Keith waved his hand, greeting them. But one ignored him while the other one scoffed at him.

Keith scratched his head. Oh well. There was nothing he could say about it. As they waited, there were some people who came up. The two pairs that came up were around 50. And the time was up.

The rest had failed!

Wow, more than 80 percent of the people failed. There were around 300 people in this test. And 240 were done. It was cutthroat.

Aidiun snapped his fingers together. Like that, the ones who had failed all appeared!

"Those who failed, exit to your right,"

"This is messed up!"

"How could you do something like that?!"

"What does this test even mean?!"

The students who failed were furious about what had happened. This test was something they didn't understand.

Keith sighed when he heard their complaints. He understood what this test was focused on.

"Hah, that is why you fools failed," Aidiun shook his head. That caused the students' expressions to contort.

"This test was to test your abilities to be quick-witted." Aidiun laughed at them.

"!"

"This test was to examine how you could react in tense moments. And how to make changes on the fly. In the real world, there are multiple occasions where you have to do that,"

That was what the test was about. Being chained to another person made the situation bizarre. Adding the suddenness of the ground shaking, it would rattle anyone.

And that was the purpose. In situations, you need to have a clear mind.

And then with the added effect of getting close to the top. It was to see who could make snap judgments to fit the need.

"..." The failed students had nothing to say.

"You guys failed because you couldn't adapt to the situation given to you,"  Aidiun shook his head,

"Now scram!" With a wave of his hands, the people flew away without a thought!

"..." No one said a thing. One move was enough to cause those people to fly away! He could have done that any time he wanted.

Aidiun turned to the one who passed, "I will tell you the scores right here,"
